| Reska05-24-07, 06:11 PM | So, in calculating my level, I see that my turtle gets the next stage of Druid bonuses (+2 Nat Armor, +1 Str/Dex, Evasion). On top of that, his HD increases to 16. Which means there's a feat open for him. The question is, what do I take for the turtle? I thought of Snatch, which would give me the equivalent of Improved Grab. I also debated Improved Natural Attack (going from 1d8 to 2d6 dmg) as well as Multiattack (getting a second bite at -5 from normal). Any other suggestions? Anything out of the norm that could be chosen? |

Improved Natural Attack only gives you 2.5 extra damage on average. Snatch is probably the best option. You can never have too many tactical options. |

You're right...I have no idea why I keep thinking that the Multiattack feat adds another attack if you don't have 3 or more natural attacks. |

Don't forget that the save DC goes up, too, with your HD increase. Dash - for more trampling fun Power Attack - just to add more punch to your Trample attack. It is melee damage after all, right? Blind-Fight - because it's no fun being a Dire Tortoise if you miss half the time Desert Fighter - a regional feat for Bright Lands characters |
| kjenks05-24-07, 10:37 PM | Ooh - Improved Unarmed Strike so he can get iterative attacks. Following the example in the FAQ for mixing manufactured weapons with natural attacks, your tortoise can make three iterative attacks with Improved Unarmed Strike (with his BAB) then bite as a secondary natural weapon (getting only 0.5x Str damage bonus instead of his usual 1.5x Str). That gives you four attacks per round. |

| kjenks05-25-07, 01:52 AM | There will undoubtedly be table variations with Power Attack affecting Trample, but it looks to me as if it should work. Trample inflicts melee damage. Power Attack adds a bonus to melee damage, even if there's no attack roll (like coup de grace or attacking an inanimate object). |

| Reska05-25-07, 11:27 AM | I like improved grapple, because it allows the tortoise to do a whole new thing. Most of the time, with Jaws of the Moray on it, improved grapple doesn't do me any good. If he hits, it's an auto-grapple (no aoo, no grapple check). After that, it's just a matter of holding on (keeping the mob from "pinning" the turtle). And since he has a +26 to grapple, most creatures won't make it through. |
