| Rerednaw07-27-07, 11:09 AM | I noticed this reference in another thread here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=883520) or (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=883520 for non-clickys) the first post mentioned a tiger animal companion, buffed up with Swift Fly. My question is how does an animal who is normally a non-flier know to use his flight ability? I could see it with say, an Int of 3+ (minimum human intelligence). But with animal level intelligence? Isn't it more likely, the animal would just move as usual (ground)? Maybe if someone also had Speak with Animals and could convey the concept of flight...dunno. How have you guys ruled this? Is there something official? |

| Rerednaw07-27-07, 11:24 AM | There's a Handle Animal trick for that. See my LG Open Tricks List: http://members.aol.com/kenjenks/lg/ And it's Open? Sweet! Now I can rule it. "Don't have the trick? Well make and Handle Animal check and push your animal then." Ditto for the Scent Fighting! Thanks. |
| solbergb07-27-07, 12:28 PM | Agreed. I always figured it was a "push" thing. Air walking probably should be too. |
| bitznarf07-27-07, 12:39 PM | Air walk specifically calls it a trick (in the SRD at least). "You can cast air walk on a specially trained mount so it can be ridden through the air. You can train a mount to move with the aid of air walk (counts as a trick; see Handle Animal skill) with one week of work and a DC 25 Handle Animal check." |
| kjenks07-27-07, 12:54 PM | The air walk spell description says: You can cast air walk on a specially trained mount so it can be ridden through the air. You can train a mount to move with the aid of air walk (counts as a trick; see Handle Animal skill) with one week of work and a DC 25 Handle Animal check. And in Races of Stone, pages 131-132: Special Movement (DC 20): The animal will use one specific special movement mode it does not normally possess if a spell or other effect grants it that movement mode: flying, burrowing, climbing, or swimming. An animal trained to fly will also air walk. |
