| Necrochaos06-09-07, 09:24 AM | I have always wanted a Fate Spinner, but I already have a couple wizards. What about bard? Can this be done? I attempted it and would like some feedback on the idea Human 8 12 12 16 8 16 Bard 1 Lingering Song, Transdimensional Spell Bard 2 Bard 3 Sculpt Spell Bard 4 Bard 5 Bard 6 Metamagic Song Bard 7 Bard 8 Bard 9 Lyric Spell Bard 10 Bard 11 Fatespinner 1 CWI Fatespinner 2 Fatespinner 3 Fatespinner 4 Silent Spell I won't lose any casting levels, which is important to me. I'll have 11 bard songs. I'll have the ability to use metamagic by sacing songs. I could train and get extra songs if I really need more metamagic. I think sculpt spell will be important for glitterdust and some other area spells I'll be able to use. Any thoughts on this? |
| Maesto06-09-07, 10:56 AM | I think there's a clause that no bard spells can be silenced by the silent spell feat, but I may be remembering incorrectly. I wouldn't take transdim spell for a bard; it's weak enough as is, but very few bard effects need to worry about this kind of effect anyway. I'd look at putting in sublime chord at level 11, if this is the earliest you can fit it in. I haven't actually looked at sublime chord closely, but from memory, a level or two of it would work wonders for this type of build. However, it is fairly skills intensive. I also think that lingering song would be a weak choice for LG - combats don't usually last long enough. A more interesting feat choice would be subsonics (if it still exists). Just a few thoughts... Cheers, Jolyon |
| Necrochaos06-09-07, 11:53 AM | I'm not overly excited about Sublime Chord. I think it's a good build, but it's not what I'm looking for. I like the fatespinner abilities to help control the game. My character worships Istus, god of Fate. So this fits in well. My whole idea is to use Metamagic Song. So I could drop Lingering Song, and Transdimensional Spell I would pick up Extra Music and maybe Quicken Spell or Rapid spell instead. Revised: Bard 1 Extra Music, Quicken Spell Bard 2 Bard 3 Sculpt Spell Bard 4 Bard 5 Bard 6 Metamagic Song Bard 7 Bard 8 Bard 9 Lyric Spell Bard 10 Bard 11 Fatespinner 1 CWI Fatespinner 2 Fatespinner 3 Fatespinner 4 ???? |
| dkay80706-09-07, 04:51 PM | Have you considered Lyric Thaumaturge out of Complete Mage? It seems like the perfect prestige class to fit in there between Bard and Fatespinner. You'll also get the benefit of more spells and more spell slots. |
| Frumpkis06-09-07, 10:08 PM | I think there's a clause that no bard spells can be silenced by the silent spell feat, but I may be remembering incorrectly. Yup, this is true. I think this comes from the assumption that bard spells supposedly all involve some sort of musical component; thus, they can't be silenced with the feat. I'd look at putting in sublime chord at level 11, if this is the earliest you can fit it in. I haven't actually looked at sublime chord closely, but from memory, a level or two of it would work wonders for this type of build. However, it is fairly skills intensive. This would've been my recommendation as well (although it seems the OP isn't too keen on Sublime Chord). I play a bard/sublime chord/fatespinner caster-bard-type as my primary PC, and this build has worked out quite nicely for me so far. The last thing I'll say is that you may want to look at taking Heighten Spell. Depending on your spell selection, Heighten Spell can be great for a caster-bard build. It lets you keep the DC's for your low-level spells (Glitterdust, Confusion, Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Charm Person, Mindless Rage) high, thus giving you more mileage out of your spell selection. I'm not sure how well Heighten Spell meshes with Metamagic Song though (I don't have Complete Mage). |
| Necrochaos06-09-07, 11:25 PM | I do like Lyric Thaumage, but I don't want it for this build. Where would I add in the Sublime Chord? Also, I could add Heighten in without a problem. |
| Nutation06-11-07, 01:04 PM | I think there's a clause that no bard spells can be silenced by the silent spell feat, but I may be remembering incorrectly. It's in the text of Silent Spell: Special: Bard spells cannot be enhanced by this metamagic feat. In the bard class entry under "spells", the SRD notes that "every bard spell has a verbal component". A few, such as Glibness and the pattern spells, actually don't. (And Joyful Noise depends on it.) The PHB, not currently at hand, may say more. |

If you take Rapid Spell, you need another feat: Rapid Metamagic. |
| Necrochaos06-11-07, 07:42 PM | I can't decide how to put the feats together. Do I go the Bard 11/Subline Chord 2/Fatespinner 3? I really really like the Fatespinner idea, but I can't decide on the feats. I really like Metamagic song. I think sculpt will be useful. I will probably take heighten as well. Just wondering what others think on this so I can start getting it down on paper. |

I think this could be quite useful, I'd love to have some more critiquing. Or do I only take two levels of LT and go back to bard? What should I take at 15 instead of CWI as it's really late to take the feat. |
