| control freak06-28-07, 09:52 PM | most beguilers are min maxed for saves as almost all spells they have are will negates tipicaly gnome or wood elf with 6 16 12 20 8 8 for wood elf with focus enchantment and 6 14 16 18 8 8 (slight variance but there needs to be REALLY high saves) the goal of them are to have lots of skills and the +5 int lets them get away with anything, and get like 1 rank in most knowlages so you can know alot, tipicaly feats involve upping the save DC and then making them less squishie with feats that up thier saves the best begilers are wood elves with a save DC 17 or fall asleep which is effectivly save or die at that apl, same with color spray and if you get darkstalker take it, they cant use tremor sence dark vision or trueseeing to see you unless they beat you hide check with a spot check |

Go Shadowcraft Mage (Races of Stone). You don't even need to do any fancy tricks, either (well, except one below). Just think of it as opening up two schools of magic you didn't have before for no cost (well, spell focus). You can even get into it in a timely fashion with a single level of Unseen Seer at level 7 (this will push back the Advanced Learning the Beguiler gets at level 7 a level, meaning you can pick up the needed 4th level Shadow spell for Shadowcraft Mage). |
| Morgen06-28-07, 10:09 PM | Think the previous poster meant Grey Elves, not Wood Elves. Anyway, there are a number of classes tha toyu cna try to work your way into, but it's different to play a beguiler in LG then in other games seeing as we face a rather large number of contructs, undead and elementals. Presently I'm working towards Unseen Seer with mine. |
| control freak06-28-07, 10:21 PM | i did mean gray not wood elves (curse my LOTR mind) the adjustments are str-2 dex+2 con-2 int+2 which helps inintative and +to save dc the other thing i would take is CWI its just great |

Something like this has pretty much become the canonical build for Beguiler. I think there are better dips than Unseen Seer, if you can get access -- Mindbender or Wild Mage, for instance. Also, you run out of SCM levels at 13. Prime candidates for levels 14+15 are Divine Oracle, Loremaster, Unseen Seer, or Mindbender if you couldn't get access earlier. I haven't really looked, but my gut feel is that the limited Beguiler spell list makes CWI not all that useful. |

I don't think Wild Mage is a good dip: it requires a feat you would never take normally (two if you insist on Practised Spellcaster), and SCM builds already have far more good feat options than they have feat slots. I think Mindbender is much better, provided you can get access - without access, Unseen Seer is pretty good as it maintains your skills. Fatespinner is nice for bumping save DCs for the last two levels, or Unseen Seer or Beguiler if you care more about skills. (My favorite character is probably the highest-level Wild Mage in the campaign, and I adore the class, but it's really not a powerhouse PrC: one of its advantages is a really nice skill list compared to sorcerer / warmage, but it doesn't look nearly so enticing for a beguiler.) |
