| KarmaInferno08-30-07, 12:02 AM | I just got 6th level spells as a Sublime Chord, and was wondering what to take. What are ya'lls opinions about the single best 6th level spell off either the Sorcerer/Wizard or the Bard lists? Open of course. :D -karma prepping for DragonCon |
| Arvagor08-30-07, 12:09 AM | Offense, defense, or other? |
| KarmaInferno08-30-07, 12:58 AM | Not Offense, as the character is a Warmage build for the "linked" arcane companion class. The character is very team oriented. I was thinking Heroes Feast but that is like, one and you're done for the day, and I have two a day I can cast. Seems a waste. -jason |
| clik_ml08-30-07, 01:06 AM | * Otto's Irresistable Dance is money. * Heroes' Feast is nice as your 2nd 6th level spell known if you don't have high level Clerics on hand in your neck of the woods. * Antimagic Field is a good defensive measure, best if you have a familiar. * Contingency usually quite good depending upon your other spells. Those are my favorites for Sublime Chord 6th level slots. |
| jstorrie08-30-07, 03:03 AM | I really like Eyebite a lot, though it's not very popular. Irresistible Dance is great at Bard 6, as is Greater Shout (no-save deafness, half-save 10d6 sonic, and fort-save stun all in one!). Summon Monster VI is very versatile. |
| Frumpkis08-30-07, 04:30 AM | The only problem with Eyebite is that it's an Evil spell. Other good choices: Otto's Irresistable Dance: awesome spell. Only drawback is that it's Ranged: touch, but if you're a melee bard, then that shouldn't be a problem. Veil: My Sublime Chord also recently reached the level where he can cast 6th lvl spells, and this was the spell I chose for his Spells Known. It's great for investigation/undercover mods, plus it's just an all-around fun spell to have (imagine all the possibilities.....). Mind you, I don't expect to be using it in every mod. The way I see it though, by the time a bard/sublime chord is high enough level to get 6th lvl spells, you'll already have a large range of spells in your repetoire, so you can afford to 'waste' a spot on your Spells Known list to take a fun spell. Freezing Fog: all the benefits of Solid Fog and then some. Great for battlefield control. This is what I'll be taking next time I level. Anti-magic Field: another spell that won't come up very often, but you'll be glad to have it when it does. True Seeing: same thing as AMF above. Probe Thoughts: cool spell, but possibly module-breaking. |

What are ya'lls opinions about the single best 6th level spell off either the Sorcerer/Wizard or the Bard lists? Open of course. :D -karma prepping for DragonCon This is something that has to be looked at in it's entirety. A sublime cord is still a bard over a sorcerer despite the kind of spells they can take.. they don't get the slots that a sorcerer gets. Do you have any metamagic feats? What are your other spells? Do you have a group that you normally play with, or a high frequency/great lack of basic archetype where you play? -James |
| kjenks08-30-07, 08:12 AM | I have a Sublime Chord spell list here: http://members.aol.com/kenjenks/lg/ For a melee-oriented bard, Brilliant Blade and Fires of Purity are the best from my point of view. If you're into Power Attack, Brilliant blade is for you. If you make multiple attacks, Fires of Purity is great. Both can be cast on your team members, possibly with better results than using them on yourself. But with the end of the campaign in sight, you could allocate 300 gp per spell to Tenser’s Transformation. |

Seriously, it's very good on a spont caster and would add a whole new dimension to a warmage. Don't just detect magic on that trap. Give chapter and verse that it is: Greater bestow curse (-8 to all saves) Greater bestow curse (wisdom = 1) Heightened plane shift And then find another way to get through the door. As a free action, you can know everything about the enchantments an enemy has on them too, if it is running during combat. (round/level so it might still be running after you disintegrate the door containing that plane-shift trap). Call out that he has free movement or zealot pact or something.... Finally, it's the one sure way to get the most out of any loot you find. Exact command words, exact number of charges left, the fact that it will turn you into a demon if you use the "wish" power, etc. |
| UMiskatonic09-06-07, 12:07 PM | Have any meta-magic feats? That's another great use of a 6th level spell slot. If not, I second the vote for Otto's Irresistable dance. It's an 8th level spell, that you're getting as a 6th level spell. Huge. Are you an archer bard? Ray spells might do -very- well for you in this case. I like empowered enervation and disintegrate. |
| KarmaInferno09-07-07, 11:16 AM | I ended up taking Otto's. Telling a beef fighter to "go dance somewhere else" was satisfying. And then I got to have a Perform-off with an enemy bard. =D -karma |
| jstorrie09-07-07, 11:51 AM | You can't really go wrong with Otto's, it's a solid save-or-die. You might want your next Sublime Chord spell pick to be something that doesn't target Will, though, since I imagine most of your bard spells already do. |
| solbergb09-07-07, 12:02 PM | Actually it is a solid "touch or die". The only downside of ottos is the touch range. There isn't a save. There is SR. I've seen it used well by sublime chords in the past, although in one fight the spell wore off before the party could get it together to kill the bad guy (who had a variety of passive effects that disrupted attempts to coordinate and hurt him) |
