Blue Ice, Why? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-15-07, 09:13 PM Okay, I have access to get 1 weapon or armor crafted out of blue ice(frostburn), It says for slashing weapons made out of blue ice, they get a +1 enhancement bonus to damage. Now, tell me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a +1 version of a weapon already get an enhancement bonus to attack and damage? I see the point for making armor out of it, but why would anyone make a blue ice weapon when for an extra 500, they can just make it magical? Am I missing something?

03-16-07, 12:42 PM It also has the advantage of not being made of metal, which is beneficial under some circumstances (rust monsters, oozes, heat metal).

Besides, Blue Ice is always better than yellow snow.

On a side note, I have a pc with a greatword of dark ice. Like a normal greatsword, but it looks cooler, and has a +1 bonus to confirm critical hits against creatures with the fire subtype...

vs. base cost of wpn:

+300 is masterwork.
+500 is blue ice (only 200gp add'l for +1 damage vs. masterwork)
+2300 for magical, including mwk cost.

Blue ice is a bargain for low level characters or for secondary wpns. It's cool for cold-oriented PCs. It works against DR/non-magical. It works when magic doesn't.
