Hey all,

Please comment on the following build:

rogue3/warmage4/virtuoso2/sublime chord 6

I'm looking for a charismatic, nimble guy who flings orbs at people.

I'm aware of Unseen Seer and Spellwarp sniper. If you recommend one of those, please explain why you think it would be better.

What exactly will your sublime chord caster level be?

Doesn't virtuoso require bardic music now? I seem to recall looking at it for an arcane caster, but it wasn't suitable.

I'm going off of memory, but I remember:

arcane caster level 1st
10 ranks in perform
4 ranks in a bunch of social skills

BUT, it gives you six skill points a level...

With practiced spellcaster, it will equal my character level. Without it, it will be character level -3.

I thought warmage didn't get 3rd level spells until 6th?

You need 13 ranks in a couple of skills to qualify for Sublime Chord, so you can't enter it until 10th. Not to mention, you're only casting 2nd level spells at 9th in any case.

I think the big problem with the build is that Warmage is one of the worst core classes to mutt like that. It doesn't have a natural entry into either of the PrCs you mention(only has 1 divination spell, you don't get 3rd level spells for a while with 3 levels of Rogue...) and you're going to be casting 2nd level spells all the way up to 9th. Furthermore, you don't generate your own concealment until 11th - that means you're not likely to get a lot of sneak attack damage. Worst of all, you don't actually get orb spells with your Warmage levels.

If I were going to do such a build, I'd go Scout 1/Warmage 4/Bard 1/Unseen Seer 4/Sublime Chord 2/Unseen Seer 5-7. Taking a level of Bard instead of Virtuoso solves a lot of problems...Scout 1/Unseen Seer 7 means you do +4d6 with Skirmish, so you don't have to have concealment. You get a divination spell at Unseen Seer 2 which lets you get Guided Shot, an amazing spell for a Warmage. And as Bard gets you a divination spell, you don't need to get one through Arcane Disciple.

Yeah, I think you're the same place I am.

I really, really WANT rogue/warmage to work. But you've convinced me; I think it's going to stink, no matter what craziness I try to jam into it.

Warmage seems to be a hard class to fit into anything else with, I am having a ton of fun playing my warmage fire bonded summoner, although the normal group i play with has a 10 level straight warmage and mine guy is overall 9th. He outshines me quite a bit, mine just has neat little tricks, his has the boom

Hate to burst your bubble, but your Sublime Chord CASTER level is based on the your Sublime Chord CHARACTER LEVEL plus the CHARACTER LEVEL of your other class (not both classes and not your caster level prior to becoming a sublime chord). This has been confirmed by WotC and the Co6 (though not through official channels).

Could you imagine if Sublime Chord caster level WAS based on caster level of other classes? Every time you had anything that boosted your caster level, it would be doubled since it would boost both your sublime chord caster level, and the caster level of your other arcane spellcasting class which sublime chord caster level would be based off of.
