So with the Knight being a legal class in about a week (which most likely won't change. Knight seems fine and balanced), I was thinking about a build I wanted to make for a while.

I figured if I was to play a tank, I would play one with loads of Charisma Synergy. I had planned something to the tune of Marshal3/Paladin2/Outcast Champion5/and something else to the end, like Wildrunner.

However, with the advent of the Knight and his Charisma-based Challenges, I was thinking that Knight might be worthwhile. I would probably be in it just for three (Bulwark of Defense) or four levels (mostly the 'taunt' Challenge, but also the medium armor mastery). Maybe to 5 for the anti-tumbling ability, but probably not.

I could see something like Knight4/Paladin2/Marshal 1 or 3/Outcast Champion 5 working (with the race being Half-Elf). Charisma to saves, taunts, something with the Marshal, and to hit X times per day from the Outcast Champion.

Maybe a build order of Paladin2/Knight3/OC2/Knight +1/OC or Marshal to taste. Pick up a reach weapon, Shock Trooper and charge into combat.

Does the Knight seem like a good addition to a build such as this? I'm thinking that I need to wait too long for some of the benefits (like Knight 4 for the only real Charisma synergy ability it gives me) when I could just pick up an indeterminite number of Marshal levels for those fantastic Auras.

Maybe I could use more Charisma synergy, but I wouldn't know where or what.

having recently looked at the proposed lgcs, i saw with shock and horror that the evangelist is no longer allowed. that means i've got to rebuild out of it. having taken 3 levels (i'm currently a marshal 2/paladin of pholtus 3/Evangelist 3), i was looking at the class and decided to roll with knight as well. i think these classes synergize really well, depending on what auras you take for your marshal (i currently have force of will and hardy soldiers, and i don't percieve that changing). paladin and knight seem to synergize particularly well together. i have pretty much decided to take nothing else but knight from here on out.

so, in short, i think your character could benefit from levels of knight.

Did you get special access to Evangelist? Just curious as the LGCS since the class has came out has had it as NPC only (atleast since the 596 version anyways). This is due to what the class can do I presume.

The trick with Knight is to combine it with Goad and Good Karma, and play MMORPG style tank. I have a build I'm working on that does this, but I'll wait until the LGCS proper actually comes out on Wednesday before I dump my builds on the board.

4 levels of knight, and i don't really see the need for goad, as test of mettle does the same thing, but forces spellcasters to target you with spells as well, unlike goad....

You have a limited number of Knight's Challenges, and you may want to use some of them on Fighting Challenges. Goad is on the other hand unlimited. You also can't Test of Mettle an opponent more than once; Goad gives you a backup if your Test of Mettle fails on something important. Goad can target enemies that have a CR that is lower than your character level by two or more.

So I think there are many situations where Goad is a useful backup or alternative to Test of Mettle. If you're already focusing your character on 'tanking,' it is worth the additional reliability. Ditto with Good Karma, which allows you to redirect spells (which Shield Ally doesn't) and allows you to fully block something, rather than just taking half of it.
