Paraphrasing as I don't currently have my books on me: Demoralizing Stare from Menacing Brute says add a bonus to Intimidate checks equal to your Menacing Brute class level. Increase the duration your opponent is shaken by an amount equal to your Menacing Brute class level. The Show Off exotic weapon trick says make an Intimidate check against an opponent within 30 ft. adding your BAB in addition. If you succeed the opponent is shaken for a number of rounds equal to your Exotic Weapon Master class level. So using this I could use Show Off to intimidate an opponent within 30 ft for a number of rounds equal to my EWM class level + MB class level right? As an aside, are there any abilities/feats that make Intimidate checks quicker so that I don't have to waste a standard action doing one? Thanks! |

Edit: Remove references So, the question is, what are you doing? Are you twirling your weapon around to confound your enemy (Show Off), or staring him down (Demoralizing Stare, which is a circumstance adjusted demoralize opponent check of longer duration) within threat range? There are certainly similarities: they both use Intimidate, and they both result in a shaken status if successful. But, ultimately, they are two different actions. It looks to me like none of it stacks. Were someone to see Show Off as being simply a flavorful demoralize, then a Show Off within threat range should logically produce an Intimidate check modified by both MB level and BAB, for a duration of (EWM level)+(MB level) rounds. As a bemused aside, there is a disconnect between Menacing Brute's appeal to fear of half-orcs (Cha -2), considering that the root ability is an improved Intimidate skill, which is Charisma based. David I think to clarify, it should be said that the Demoralizing Stare bonus would apply to the intimidate check of Show off, but not the duration. Demoralizing Stare would also boost intimidating rage for the check, but not the duration. However, you could rage as a free action to intimidate one opponent, making him shaken, then show off as a standard action, and if you succeed on THAT intimidate check, then he would be frightened for a number of rounds equal to your EWM level. Fun tactic. Who needs magic to scare people? |
