Ok, so my next character is decidedly a cleric of Olidammara. The character is going to be a summoner/party buffer/face that does divine metamagic: quicken. I've got most of him ironed out, but I still have a couple domain choice issues and a possible 1 level dip.

He's either going to be Cleric 10/Contemplative 5, or Cleric 9/Marshal 1/Contemplative 5. The Marshal level seems to fit in with the whole party buffer theme, and it makes a couple of the charisma-based skills class skills for me.

The stats are

STR 8
DEX 10
CON 14
INT 14
WIS 15
CHA 14

My feats are going to be either the vanilla Extra Turning/Quicken at 1 with divine metamagic at 3 CWI at 6th and extra turning at 9th, 12th, or 15th, or if I take a level of marshal at 3rd I'll pick up skill focus: diplomacy at 1 and get quicken and divine metamagic at 3rd.

The skills I hope to max are

Bluff
Concentration
Knowledge: Religion
Diplomacy
Other Charisma Skill.

I'm definately going to have Trickery as a domain, but my other one is still up in the air. These are the choices I like best.

City: Gather Info on skill list.
Celerity: Good Spell selection. Haste will be nice but will get replaced with righteous wrath at 9th/10th.
Luck: Luck reroll/Freedom of Movement.
Mind: Skill Bonus to domains.

So guys, should I take a Marshal level, and what do you think my domains should be? Remember I get a bonus one at 11th aswell.

Unless you take your Marshal level right off the bat, it isn't going to be too helpful and is costing you a caster level to do it. Now if you start with Marshal, that might work. Gives you more skills and better weapons selection and you get the stagnant bonuses for the life of the character.

As far as domains go, it depends if you are picking for power or for character. For power, Celerity and Luck are definitely the most powerful. Character-wise, you need to decide that yourself.

Well, it's picking for power in a sense that I want to increase my out of combat capability. With only Bluff and Diplomacy will I be versatile enough to be a face, or are other skills like Sense Motive and Gather Information also required? I haven't played a charisma-based skill character in LG so I don't know which ones come up that often.

Diplomacy most definitely comes up the most often. However, I have found that the others come up about as much as you want them to. What I mean is, if you go looking for opportunities to use Bluff, Disguise, etc., you are likely to find them. Most people aren't used to that in D&D, i.e. you either have a straight talk with the encounter or you kill it. So you may have to train yourself to think outside the box if you want to use these skills optimally.

As far as Gather Information goes, it isn't anymore useful to the party face than to any other party member. Which isn't to say it isn't useful, just that it won't help you much with your face duties.

Sense Motive can be helpful, but isn't necessary.

Also, remember that 5 ranks in Bluff, Sense Motive and Knowledge (nobility) all give you a synergy bonus to your Diplomacy.

If you want to improve your buffing/combat abilities, go with Celerity or Luck. If you want to improve your face abilities, Mind would definitely be your best option when you look at both the bonuses and spells.

None of them come up that often. I'd rank their frequency as follows:

1. Sense Motive
2. Diplomacy
3. Bluff
4. Gather Information

You will likely see regional variation on this.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I think I'm going to go with Celerity and Trickery at first level, and pick up Luck later on. I'm probably just going to stick with cleric 10/Contemplative 5 unless anyone know any good complete scoundrel stuff I might want to build towards. I'll probably pick Disguise as a class-skill because hey, it's funny.

If you're relying on divine metamagic you might want to wait a week or two for the next LGCS to come out. DMM is being "looked at" so that particular feat tree might not be available.

Celerity for sure. I was reading SpC last night and was particularly impressed by the Celerity, Dream and Force domains.
