MatteBlack 06-27-07, 09:34 PM	I am considering getting leadership with my marshall (almost 5th level). My auras give bonus to damage, damage while flanking and to Dex checks. I would assume that my cohort should be able to make good use of my auras and fill the party voids I encounter most. I frequently play with a party of Elven followers of Solonor Thelandria including some very elfy light builds. We can usually count on an Arcanist and often find ourselves short of tanks and healers. Since my other(primary) character is usually the tank and we have some secondary clerics on the rise, I tend to think some sort of warrior is the way to go. I am considering either a courtblade wielding fighter/knight type headed toward Champion of Corellon or some sort of healer/buffer cleric. What would be some good ideas for these roles or one that might help even more? BTW, a half-orc would be bad due to RP reasons.

cycloptic_squirrel 06-27-07, 10:41 PM	OK, with your auras, so he'll probably be want to be flanking, and if he's flanking anyway, a few dice of sneak attack wouldn't be bad; the motivate dex would work well with some trapfinding, if you can fit in tactile trapsmith. What about something like... Wood Elf worshiping Hanili Celanil Str 15 Dex 17 Con 12 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 8 pip Dex then Strength 1: Rouge 1 - TWF (+1d6 sneak) 2: Rouge 2 - (evasion) 3: Rouge 3 - True Believer (+2d6 sneak) 4: Fighter 1 - Weapon Finesse 5: Fighter 2 - Weapon Focus: dagger 6: Rouge 4 - Tactile Trapsmith 7: Pious Templar 1 - (Mettle) 8: Pious Templar 2 - (Smite) 9: Pious Templar 3 - Melee Weapon Mastery: slashing (Weapon Spec. Dagger, DR 1/-) 10: Pious Templar 4 - (ITWF) 11: Pious Templar 5 - (Mettle) 12: Pious Templar 6 - (2 smites) 13: Pious Templar 7 - (DR 2/-) The god/weapons are adaptable; I thought Hanili was a cute choice as you could play it up as a love interest who follows you blindly. You could switch to human for extra Con and a feat, but you seemed to prefer an elf. I tried to fit in staggering strike earlier, but it couldn't. The follower won't get spells until you are ninth level, but it's enough to cast resurgence or use a cure light wand. You have your trapfinding, your damage, and although the HP won't be where it needs to be, you should be able to bump the AC if you're willing to spend some of the leader's gold on it.

I would say, if you are lacking in healers and tanks, then a full caster progression cleric with the strength and war domains would be a VERY good option. Clerics are ALWAYS wanted, and you really CANNOT go wrong with having one. My personal suggestion for a battle cleric build: (I am a strong supporter of dwarves as the best battle clerics) Stats: (elite array) Str: 16 (including 4th level bump) Dex: 12 Con: 15 Int: 10 Wisdom: 14 Cha: 6 By level 8 bump con and get a +2 wisdom by level 8 for semi decent strats. I don't think this will fit well with your party though, by the sounds of it. The TWF rogue idea is kinda good, but I always think a caster for a non casting character makes the best cohort team, and a cleric is often the most needed class. (Cos there are usually arcanists around) Also, the build kinda doesn't really make sense, Pious templar on a dagger? seems such a waste. If doing a TWF build, I would personally lean towards a Rogue3Swash2 Fighter2 etc Daring outlaw build. You really want to maximise your sneak attack as your static damage won't be fantastic. And I would go wood elf, or grey elf. (If grey elf is chosen take 3 swash and get insightful strike). Some Derivsh levels would be good too.

Although, this does make me think I need to talk them into taking advantage more of what I can provide. I had considered a rogue/swashbuckler/combat trapsmith but, I think I may save that concept for a later character. What is most often needed is someone to step up and tank or more healing to allow my marshall to tank a bit longer and give the other light builds more confidence in more static melees. The love interest angle could be an interesting tie in. Are there any cohort relationships that have been done to death and should be avoided? A human cleric of Pelor would also make some RP sense but, the image of my diplomat Marshall backed up by a big bad(relatively speaking) Elven knightly warrior is still pretty sexy to me. I would imagine either of them would be tough enough to stand up to being 2 levels down.
Jesse Heinig 06-28-07, 02:55 AM	You could do an elf favored soul or cleric of Aerdrie Faenya, going into Stormlord. It has a dearth of feats but full caster progression.
Grantor 06-28-07, 03:48 PM	I'm not sure that a character with Knight levels would ever be able to take advantage of extra flanking damage. So you may want to avoid that in your build.
