| Painlord07-16-07, 05:25 PM | I appreciate the length and debate that all have recently posted regarding my Clerical path in the Radiant Servant of YurMomma. I realize that my cleric (a Lvl 4 Wood Elf - Corellan) may not be headed on that path, but may venture into a PrC at some future time. That said, I didn't take Craft Wondrous Goodies at Lvl 3 (I took Rapid Shot after Point Blank Shot Lvl 1)...but I'm thinking about what to take at Lvl 6. Everyone seems to think that it's almost a must for a LG Cleric to take CWI (Craft Wonderful Insanity)...but I'm new and confused. What, exactly, should I be crafting as opposed to buying? What are some of cool goodies that I should be looking at buying or crafting? What kind of Wonderous stuff should I be thinking about crafting for the kicking of much butt at higher APLs? Remember, I'm more of an Archer-Cleric (I have a nice powerful bow...MW comp longbow +3, Dex 14, Str 16, Con 12, Wis 16, Sexiness -2,731,995, Int 10). Thanks for any advice. I learn much when youse guys speak. -Painlord |

You may want to get precise shot at 6 if you intend to be an archer-cleric, or retrain rapid shot to CWI and take CMA&A at 6th level (bracers of archery and bow enhancements). My war cleric never took CWI and was fine, but did take CMA&A and retired with a +4 holy battleaxe and +5 armor and shield. I seem to remember the cleric spell list is not as friendly (as the wizard list) to making a lot beyond the stat boosters and a few other items; a lot depends on your domain spells and personal preferences. The feat is still worth it if all you ever craft are stat boosters and vests of resistance, though you will craft more, especially as you gain accesses via ARs. |

| Painlord07-16-07, 06:36 PM | I guess I should clarify my question into two questions: 1) Is CWI worth it? Should I take it with my next feat? 2) Is Crafting Arms & Armor better? Or is there another feat that would fit better into Cleric-Archer build? Thanks. -Painlord |

Thanks. -Painlord CWI isn't a MUST, but one should strongly consider it ;) it basically saves you about one third of the gp for magic items (as there are still some things you cannot craft due to spell list issues). another point to look at is ACCESS; your cleric needs access to craft all this wonderful marbles of endless spellcasting :P and other goodies. CA&A is somehow different, it allows a crafter easy access to fine tuned weapons and armors. finding a weapon with a yummy enhancement is nice BUT being able to CRAFT the right weapon with the yummy enhancement is even nicer :) if your cleric is a frontliner himself or considers to take a frontliner cohort, CA&A may be slightly better than CWI. having BOTH is the optimal ;) ciao martin m. |

Getting a better bow will help you every round. Don't forget the joys of bane arrows, either. Having those dragon bane arrows will come in handy one day. Since you'll spend most rounds shooting, you won't cast as many spells, and won't have the same need for pearls of power and metamagic rods as other clerics do. The money you save will allow you to buy gloves of dex that much faster, and there you go. |
