| Mithreinmaethor03-04-07, 10:07 PM | I have been tossing around what to do for the new plot arc. I appreciate the help I have had from those that have posted on my other ideas. Here is an Archer type build that I have come up with. I might play this as part of the new arc or I might just play it because well I need an archer. Dwarf (S:10 D:17 (20) C:14 I:14 W:11 C:6) 1 - Ranger - Feat: Point Blank Shot 2 - Fighter - Bonus Feat: Precise Shot 3 - Fighter - Feat: Rapid Reload / Bonus Feat: Weapon Focus - Light Xbow 4 - Ranger - Combat Style - Archery (Rapid Shot) 5 - Fighter 6 - Fighter - Feat: Crossbow Sniper / Bonus Feat: Blind Fighting 7 - Dark Hunter 8 - Dark Hunter 9 - Dark Hunter - Feat: Improved Initiative 10 - Dark Hunter 11 - Occult Slayer 12 - Occult Slayer - Feat: Sharp Shooter 13 - Occult Slayer 14 - Occult Slayer 15 - Occult Slayer - Feat: ????? |

You're spending three feats(Crossbow Sniper, Rapid Reload, WF: Xbow) to get roughly where you'd be with a Composite Longbow if you spent those feats on (WF: Composite Longbow, WS: Composite Longbow, Ranged Weapon Mastery(Piercing)) Except you get an additional +2 to hit with Ranged Weapon Mastery. |
| Mithreinmaethor03-04-07, 10:27 PM | Well I wasnt really looking to twink him out. I had a cool miniature for him, and am sticking with the Dwarf mentality. Well at least old school Dwarf mentality. Sure I realized I could have just used a bow and went that route. And I like Crossbow Sniper. Sure you use more feats to get to it. But you can concentrate on your Dex and max it out and you get half its bonus in damage and I can use my measly 1d6 sneak attack out to a range of 60'. And concentrating on one stat is better than trying to balance 2. |
| Mommy was an Orc03-05-07, 12:06 AM | It isn't necessarily a twink him out kind of thing - you're just spending so many feats to be a poor quality archer without really contributing something else to the party. An archer is a luxury, because they're basically a spellcaster who doesn't spellcast and a fighter who doesn't fight on the front lines, but a cross between the two. I'd do something along the lines of this: 1: Rogue 1: PBS 2: Fighter 1: Precise Shot 3: Fighter 2: Rapid Shot, Rapid Reload(Light Crossbow) 4: Fighter 3 5: Fighter 4: Crossbow Sniper 6: Rogue 2: WF: Light Crossbow 7: Rogue 3 8: Fighter 5 9: Fighter 6: WS: Light Crossbow, Ranged Weapon Mastery(Piercing) 10: Rogue 4 11: Fighter 7 12: Fighter 8: Improved Precise Shot 13: Rogue 5 14: Rogue 6 15: Rogue 7: Woodland Archer The advantage of this build is you do enough sneak attack damage to be meaningful, you can serve as the party trapfinder, and you do more damage/hit more often in general with the crossbow. |
| Mithreinmaethor03-05-07, 01:39 AM | How about this ? (The 12th and 15th level Feats can be interchanged) Dwarf (S:10 D:17 (20) C:14 I:14 W:11 C:6) or Deep Halfling (S:10 D: 18 (21) C:14 I:14 W:10 C:8) 1 - Ranger - Feat: Point Blank Shot 2 - Fighter - Bonus Feat: Precise Shot 3 - Fighter - Feat: Rapid Reload / Bonus Feat: - Blind Fighting 4 - Ranger - Combat Style (Archery - Rapid Shot) 5 - Fighter - Bonus Feat: Crossbow Sniper 6 - Fighter - Feat: Weapon Focus - Light Xbow 7 - Dark Hunter 8 - Dark Hunter 9 - Dark Hunter - Feat: Weapon Specialization - Light Xbow 10 - Dark Hunter 11 - Rogue 12 - Rogue - Feat: Ranged Weapon Mastery 13 - Rogue 14 - Rogue 15 - Rogue - Feat: Improved Precise Shot I dont have the need to be the Trapfinder/Lockpicker in the party. Someone else locally will be covering that. If this is what I decide upon for my Greyhawk Ruins plot arc character, most of his time will be spent in the Dungeons and tunnels (which is why I want the Dark Hunter abilities). |
| Alpha_Nerd03-05-07, 11:31 AM | Is Blind Fight a pre-req for Dark Hunter? If not I'd sub it out for something like Weapon Focus: Light Xbow and pick up Woodland Archer at 6th. |

Yes Tracking and Blind Fighting are required for Dark Hunter. Otherwise I would have taken Rogue in the beginning. I like the Ranged Weapon Mastery but am not beholden to it. I could take Woodland Archer at 6th. The Weapon Focus at 9th and Improved Precise Shot at 12th. Maybe just take Weapon Focus at 15th. Woodland Archer's Moving Sniper will work well with my Stone Hues. Since its basically HiPS with a +10 bonus to my Hide check. (as long as I am within 5' of a stone wall) So which of the 2 races should I take ? Either gets the benefit of the Dark Hunters enhancements. Dwarf - Well I like them :) Deep Halfling - Bonuses to AB, AC, Saves and Hiding God I think I am gonna be a 3 foot something person again :) |
| Munkwunk03-05-07, 02:44 PM | I personally think Deep Halfling would be the better choice. YOu get +1 to hit, +2 to Dex (which translates to +1 to hit, +0.5 to damage) and still gain a lot of the cool dwarf abilities. You also gain a tasty +4 bonus to Hide checks. If you could possibly squeeze in a few more Sneak Attack dice, you could pick up Telling Blow and Improved Crit (Crossbow) to make good use of your 60' sneak attack range. |
| UMiskatonic03-05-07, 07:39 PM | Thief-Acrobat isn't all that bad for a rogue/crossbow sniper You can move, drop prone, and shoot once a round, and get up for free. If you -really- want to be a sniper, it's solid. If you want to do great damage with multiple attacks, then just get a longbow like everyone else. |
| Timlagor03-05-07, 10:08 PM | I really think you should drop the Dark Hunter. You're crippled enough as it is ;P |
| Gwumph03-05-07, 11:48 PM | Whatever you do. Improved critical is a must. 17-20 crit range is very respectable and with multiple shots per round will become a telling factor in battle also combat sniper damage would multiply with a crit |
