| Mattastrophic03-13-07, 02:45 PM | Okay, so I've been hard at work at work (heh) on a Fochluchan Lyrist build. I'm shooting for something that's: -Fun to play in the 1-10 range as well as after Lyrist. -Has something to do in combat besides singing. (sneak attack abilities?) -Is the mysterious type, i.e. good Bluff, GatherInfo, Hide, Move Silently, etc. Search/OpenLock/DisableDevice is useful, but not important. -Good sensory skills. Spellcasting is a lower priority, in fact. I'm mainly shooting for skill monkey, then combat prowess, then spellcasting. Retraining, btw, I have no problem with using heavily to maintain fun levels by delaying prerequisites. Here's the best of what I've got so far: -Bard7/Rog2/Druid1/SublimeChord1/Lyrist - 'cause it's very hard to screw up a Sublime Chord. -Rog3/Bard2/UnseenSeer4/Druid1/Lyrist - 4d6 SA + Critical Strike. -Druid6/Rog2/Bard2/Lyrist - basic Druid-focus -Rog2/Bard2/Druid1/UnseenSeer1/LyricThaumaturge4/SublimeChord1/Lyrist - Very low BAB here, though. -Perhaps a BAB-heavy version? I gotta admit, I'm throwing in the towel here. Help me out! -Matt |
| Mommy was an Orc03-13-07, 04:51 PM | FL kind of sucks in an LG game. Basically, Arcane Hierophant is better at being an FL than FL is. You're only missing out on Bardic Music advancement, but at 10th level, you're a Bard 7/Druid 6 caster instead of a Bard 7/Druid 1 or Druid 6/Bard 2. |
| Lightblade03-13-07, 05:10 PM | I have a proto-FL that made it to 10th level before 597. I actually went druid heavy, and was drd 6 / brd 2 / rog 2 at the end. I started as just a druid, but the 595 rebuild had me want to play an FL, so a threw a bard level in. Thus, levels 1-7 i was essentially a druid that could cast Grease off a wand. Levels 8-10 were pretty rough, though. Then the druid rebuild, combined with the equal penalty to gold and xp (as a gnome, i would have been at 20% for all of 10th level), let me swing full circle and rebuild as Bard 7 / Rogue 2 / Druid 1. Tenth level is still annoying, since now i'm a bard that can cast Farie Fire, but hopefully my rod of sculpt will make grease and glitterdust scary, at least until i get a SC level. That said, i wouldn't play an FL unless i wanted casting in both breadth and depth. There are many better skillmonkey classes out there. |
| Mattastrophic03-13-07, 05:21 PM | Well, the origin of this Quest for a Viable Lyrist began with a just-started Druid who was slated to be Master of Many Forms, i.e. Complete Character Overhaul. Rog3/Bard2/UnseenSeer4/Druid1/Lyrist isn't seeming so bad, though. -Matt |
| Timlagor03-13-07, 08:45 PM | Does that qualify for Sublime Chord before the FL Matt? (I don't know if it's worth putting in if it does) Lightblade: was that meant to be Bard 7/Rogue2/Druid 1? |
| Mattastrophic03-14-07, 10:08 AM | Nope, it certainly does not qualify to take Chord at 11th. I give up; Fochluchan Lyrist will probably be removed from the campaign before this character makes it there, anyways. My "finest" FL builds seem to require a wee bit of glue to function... Druid1/Wiz4/DivineOracle2/Loremaster2/Fatespinner1/Lyrist - all-but-1 Wizard casting Bard2/Druid3/DivineOracle2/ArcaneHeirophant3/SublimeChord1/Lyrist -Matt |
| Lightblade03-14-07, 10:16 AM | Divine Oracles don't give Evasion; so in my mind those are illegal builds. |
| Mattastrophic03-14-07, 10:47 AM | Thus, the glue. "this form of evasion" is what makes it sticky. Table variation might make it unstick. -Matt |
