Hello,

Stout Halfling of the POU
Rogue1,Marshal3,Fighter2,Ranger1,Beastma ster1
Im thinking of taking 2 levels of Paladin, 2 levels of Cavalier, then 3 more levels of Paldin to finish out my career.

Is there a Diety with favored weapon Lance? (I haven't seen it)

Trying to decide where to go with this character in a roleplaying paladin sort of way. Not sure if I want to upgrade weapon to Merciful and become "Klein Swyftsturm the Merciful". Or to be a Paladin who condemns and executes anyone who detects as evil. Both are exciting choices. Which gods would represent that, or my halfling heritage.

Once you take any class outside of Paladin you can never take another level of Paladin. As for the favored weapon Lance I am looking atm, but I do not know any offhand.

Cavalier overrules that, as do some other prestige classes.

sorry my mistake, I have not read the cavalier prc rules.

I was unable to find any greyhawk deity that had lance as favored weapon, but if that is not a requirement for you I'd say Arvoreen fits well.

Wow thanks for looking. Where do I find this list, and more about Arvoreen?

look under the campaign documents on the right side
click on Living Greyhawk Deities v2

There is not much info there, but a google search will probaly get you some more info.

There are no deities with favoured weapon lance, alas, but nothing in your build requires you to stick with a deity's favoured weapon.

Nod understood, but it would have influenced who I chose as my deity. Kinda silly though, no god prefers the lance. The ultimate weapon in the game, and no god likes it.

it only is the ultimate weapon because some strange wording allows it to be used two handed while mounted ;)

maybe sometimes a FAQ will clear this up.
(prizes for lances and mounts might then drop as deep as the ones for toads after the 3.5 conversion :bounce:)

Lance as the ultimate weapon is something I think more people would disagree than agree with. A lance does great damage on a charge, and you get the high ground bonus, but you lose attacks/rd while mobile on the mount and you cannot attack anything adjacent to you. IMO, those limitations more than make up for the double damage received on a charge and the +1 attack.

As for no Deities chosing it, I'd say thats more due to the lack of mounts in all but a few of the Deities back-stories.

Avoreen is the prime halfling deity of halflings in the Dullstrand, IIRC.
Of course, most halflings are former slaves and still seen as sub-citizens, so the Dullstrand is not particualrly typical.

Why would you want to do that? You might have a very powerful flying bat at the moment, but at APL 10-12, that thing should be dying on a regular basis. At which point, you can't charge. Not to mention, with the amount of an XP penalty you'll end up with, that's likely to get your character retired...

And Paladin/Cavalier can't advance your bat until a minimum of 13th level and that's only if you take the Devoted Tracker feat.

Smite evil ramps up the damage, and the +4 to hit makes a huge difference. 2nd level of Paladin helps the saves out (my will is 4 right now, fort 14) 2nd level of cavalier gives deadly charge a huge ramp up in damage. 4th Level of paladin gives Rhinos Rush another huge ramp up in damage. 5th level of paladin gives special mount.

After 14th level I have access to buy Griffon. So with Riding Dog, Griffon, Animal Companion, Special Mount I should come out ok. Perhaps better than having 1 good Animal Companion or 1 good special mount not sure.

Cavalier levels also stack with Special Mount so effectively Paladin 7.

If you come up with a better build let me hear it.

You only get Rhino's Rush at Paladin 4th if you have a Wisdom bonus of +1 or more, and you gain access to it.

Your problem isn't the amount of damage you do, your problem is going to be that the easiest way to make you not an issue is to kill your mount. If you're riding a 4HD mount at APL 8-12, there's going to be mods where your mount auto-dies by accident. At which point, you're a weak Marshal for the rest of the mod.

Things like Cloudkill autokill things with 5 HD or less as an example. No save. Blasphemy autokills it if the caster is 14th level or better.

You should take levels in things which advance your mount so that doesn't happen. Beastmaster, Wild Plains Outrider(which you should qualify for almost automatically), Wolflord, etc...and Natural Bond if you have access to that feat.
