Do we just mark it on our AR as having done it, or what? 2) Having done the Rite of Passage, what single 1st level Sorc/Wiz spell would YOU choose? Depending on the character type...a Monk or arcane caster might want mage armor so they can have it handy without needing a spell slot. Endure Elements could be handy for anyone, since it lasts all day regardless of caster level. Comprehend Languages 1/day can also be helpful. Being a Kobold, Disguise Self could be helpful in some situations too. And there's almost always SOMEONE at the table who can appreciate an enlarge person. The fact that only Kobolds can use this does limit it's usefulness, but it still is pretty neat. |
| rutrow42407-25-07, 02:47 PM | Also - would this kobold now qualify for dragon disciple under the can cast arcane spells w/o preparation req? |
| LachlarlanIII07-25-07, 02:53 PM | IIRC, spell-like abilities aren't considered arcane or divine. And that's why gnomes with 12 Cha can't auto-qualify for the spellcasting requirement of dragon disciple. |

| Demoyn07-25-07, 04:02 PM | Where is rite of passage located? I couldn't find it in RotD. Is it in the Draconomicon or something, or am I just blind? |

I had a hard time finding it too, but it is in Races of the Dragon. It's buried in the Kobold chapter. I can't give you an exact page number right now, but will later if someone else hasn't done so already. |

| Britt07-25-07, 04:17 PM | Page 43. We're working out the details on doing the rite. |
| KShaver07-25-07, 04:45 PM | I was considering chill touch for my trapsmith, nice to be able to sneak attack with a touch. |
| Ralis07-25-07, 05:58 PM | As for preforming the rite, It clearly says that it takes seven days, and requires a DC 10 concentration check, plus a 100gp cost. So, I think its something you should be able to do at the cost of 1 tu, 100gp, and have a GM to witness the roll and mark it on an AR. |

I don't think you would be threatened or distracted at the time... |
| jstorrie07-25-07, 07:33 PM | I don't see any reason why you couldn't take 10. What I took would depend on my role, but I could see taking any of the following: Charm Person Comprehend Languages Disguise Self (for particularly Kobold-unfriendly regions) Swift Expeditious Retreat Feather Fall Golem Strike Identify Mage Armor (especially for monks/rogues/other light-or-no-armor types) Mount Protection From Evil Unseen Servant Ventriloquism |

| _metz_07-25-07, 08:06 PM | or "enlarge person" for kobolds that always secretly wanted to be medium :) Better not take the Dragonwrought feat then, as you will no longer be a 'person'. |
| Sir_Wulf07-25-07, 11:30 PM | Reduce Person might be nice for an especially stealthy type. |
| copper_wyrmling07-26-07, 06:41 AM | For a kobold warmage or archer type, Guided Shot looks pretty tempting - I tend to use it once or twice / day with my sorc, and I've found it very useful. Identify and Unseen Servant are also fun ideas. |
| delewobmesid07-27-07, 10:37 AM | the cost also states sacrificing a HP permenantly; as long as 1 TU, 100gp and 1 permanent HP are spent, gain one spell like ability. |
| LachlarlanIII07-27-07, 11:19 AM | *Contemplates playing a 6 Con Kobold sorcerer that used the Draconic Rite of Passage...* Hmmm.. Wonder how far I could get with 1 hit point at first level. :D |

| haferka07-27-07, 11:49 AM | to bad we can't choose spells from the races of dragon book.. Mighty wholop would be really cool. |
| Hariman07-28-07, 09:12 PM | Why hasn't anybody mentioned Grease yet? You can use Spell Like Abilities in grapples, right? Shocking Grasp could be useful. Or you could go for Ray of Enfeeblement on a ranged character! Fist of Stone would be great for a Melee character. Shield would be good for a Two Handed Weapon wielding Barbarian, if cast just before he raged. Many of the spell compendium spells are very good, even at just one a day. Sniper's Shot, Arrow Mind and Critical Strike would all provide cool one a day boost. |
| control freak07-28-07, 09:38 PM | true strike distract (the flat footed distract i forgot name) reduce person (lots of hide =D) shivering touch lesser (if u get access) |
| Hariman07-29-07, 08:33 PM | true strike distract (the flat footed distract i forgot name) reduce person (lots of hide =D) shivering touch lesser (if u get access) Distract Assailant. It's good for just about any character who wants an easier time striking their foe or a way to get away safely. If the enemy fails the will save. |
| LachlarlanIII07-30-07, 09:33 AM | Fist of Stone |
| TWG_Prometheus07-30-07, 10:48 AM | Shield would be good for a Two Handed Weapon wielding Barbarian, if cast just before he raged. Fortunately, I don't think we need to be too scared of Kobold Barbarians breaking the campaign...even with Shield. |
