OK, I have a general idea for a Dwarf fighter build, but need some specific ideas. I've read several of the other dwarf threads and have gotten some ideas but none fit what I'm looking for. This is pretty sketchy, so there are lots of options.

Possible Stats:
Str 10 pts = 16 (+3)
Dex 4 pts = 12 (+1)
Con 10 pts = 16 + 2 = 18 (+4)
Int 2 pts = 10
Wis 2 pts = 10
Cha 0 pts = 8 - 2 = 6 (-2)

Must Haves
Dwarf
Start with Barbarian (HP, Skill Points, Rage, Extra Speed)
Weilding a shield and Dwarven War Axe
Adimate (or similar) War Axe
Mithral Full Plate
Power Attack
A level of Exotic Weapon Master to get full power attack with single handed war axe
Want to be able to sunder well

Things I've Seen That Seem Interesting

Deep Warden Con for Dex in AC
High Con
High Str

Build
Barbarian 1 (Rage, 12 HP, 4 Skills, Feat ?)
Fighter 1 (Feat ?)
Fighter 2 (Feat ?,Feat ?)
???

Are there any feats/magic item abilities that would let me use a tower shield and not take a TH penalty? (Animated shield is not in this characters theme)

Thanks in advance for any direction you can give me.

P.S. As I look at this, it's pretty pethetic. I'm going to check out some more threads. Think I want to head for some of the weapon mastery feats in PHBII.

If you go thru the old threads here yu will find a lot of dwarf builds.

Your traditional 2007 dwarf (to the point that it gets boring) typically has the following features

at least 3 levels of ranger to get to deep warden
barbarian for rage and movement
at least 2 levels of deep warden

in addition you often see
2 fighter levels for 2 feats
4 levels of pious templar

typical feats used include power attack (obviously) reckless rage, extra rage and sometimes shock trooper and all the feats like trip that go with it

dwarven waraxe dwarves often take a level of Gendwar cleric for the free weapon focus

clannagh hit the nail on the head there.

The cookie cutter Dwarf build is:
Dwarf
18 Str, 10 Dex, 16 Con, 8 Int, 12 Wis, 6 Cha
1 Ranger Track, Power Attack
2 Ranger TWF or Rapid Shot
3 Barbarian Extra Rage
4 Fighter Weapon Focus
5 Ranger Endurance
6 Deepwarden Reckless Rage
7 Deepwarden
8 Exotic Weapon Master
9 Fighter True Believer, Close-Quarters Fighting
10 Pious Templar
11 Pious Templar
12 Pious Templar Weapon Spec: Dwarven Waraxe
13 Pious Templar Improved Initiative
14 Occult Slayer
15 Occult Slayer

I'd go with Barbarian 1st..more HP that way..almost as many skills.

Taking a level of cleric for the 'free' feat seems unneeded..1st level fighter gets that, more HP, and +1 BAB...

:)

Seems my Dwarf is pretty similar then..just the build to get into Battlesmith required a Warhammer and I didn't notice Deepwarden until about 4th levele, so I didn't take my ranger levels until late (right now I'm Barb1/Ftr4/Rgr2..about to be a battlesmith finally..then 2 levels of Deepwarden--I'm a bit behind :( )

Getting in Deepwarden at 6 with an 8 Int is undoable, I think, unless you start with Ranger.

After 60 ARs, my dwarven cleric gave up on finding mithral full plate and purchased dwarven plate instead.

If you want to be good at sundering, take two levels of exotic weapon master. You'll be able to get an extra d6 damage to sunder attempts with your dwarven waraxe. There may be a weapon enhancement or feat somewhere that will also help.

Heaven forbid somebody should actually build a lawful dwarf. We all know dwarves are never lawful good, after all

There are lots of lawful dwarves. It's just that the non-lawful dwarves get kicked out and are forced to become adventurers. ;)

Well, starting out as Dwarf Barbarian 1, with Power Attack, Chain Mail, and a heavy shield is a good start. Work toward Exotic Weapon Master, and both exotic sunder and uncanny blow.

No guarantee on anything from the PHBII either.

You have NO guarantee of finding an adamantine War Axe, or Mithril Full plate. Just so you know. I'd go with MW Breastplate, a +1 heavy shield, a MW spiked gauntlet, and a +1 Waraxe for as long as you can, and just save money. Spend it on stat bump items if its burning a hole in your pocket.

It will help to play in multiple regions, and to play EVERY mod that involves dwarves, mines, or smiths. The titles should help. For example, fictional Core 8-01, Forge of Doom should be prioritized over Regional 8-02 Skipping between the Trees.

Join Dwarf-based organizations, and consider moving if your region doesn't have a dwarf meta-org.

Some more information. I created a Dwarf barbarian(fighter) last summer for something different. When I created it, I didn't put much thought into it. It's my second character and will only get played occationally when I can't play my Ranger archer 8. I've only played two mods with it and I'm now trying to develop a good build for this character. I hit second level with the 2nd mod and also got the access to mithril and adamantine! So I know what I'm saving my gold for, but just need to work out the build for adventures 3 to like 30 before I have both the armor and axe.

I took Power Attack at 1st level.

I think my stats are:
Str 10 pts = 16 (+3)
Dex 4 pts = 12 (+1)
Con 10 pts = 16 + 2 = 18 (+4)
Int 2 pts = 10
Wis 2 pts = 10
Cha 0 pts = 8 - 2 = 6 (-2)

I'm going to dump all my stat bumps into Str. I didn't flat line dex for the Reflex save, inititative and AC bump. Even if I go with deepwarden, the +1 dex is still worth it. I don't like taking negatives in Int--loss of skill points, or any save ability like Wis.

Also, I think I'm going to try to avoid Ranger. I have straight Ranger archer build and I want to try something different. I'm not really into dipping into a class just for a level or two, and I would really need to take three levels of Ranger to get Endurance. I'm not interested in archery or two-weapon fighting with the build either.

The archery and two weapon fighting are no that useful in a dwarf build becasue they only work in light armor .. though some high CON deep wardens do occasionally totally shock other dwarfs and prance about like an elf in mithral chain.

Ranger is not essential to a deep warden its just the "soft" option because it has good skill points and the deep warden pre-requisites are ranger class skills. Once you take ranger you may as well go for three levels for the free endurance. If you have enough skill points there is no real need to take any ranger at all.

Nothing wrong with a "cookie-cutter" build. I mean, the ones listed are really strong at what they do.

Having played a somewhat similar build to 8 (Deep Warden wasn't available and I couldn't finesse things enough during the last rebuild), I'd recommend forgetting about the shield and going 2 handed at all times. The extra damage you do via Str and Power Attack makes up for the few extra AC you'd get. I'd even consider dumping other stats (dex in particular) to get 18 Str.

One feat I've never seen anyone use that you might consider -- from one of the legal Dragon articles -- Exercises of Arnd. I don't have the text in front of me, but from what I recall, when you get 8 hours of rest, you can do some calisthenics in the morning and you get to pick one of 3 benefits : 1. +1 (morale?) bonus with the weapon you use in the exercises 2. +1 (morale?) to saves 3. +6 temp hp. All good, though I think the temp HP are the best :)
