| andymet12-18-07, 04:58 AM | Ok basically I made this character when the group needed a healer and I've started playing it a little more then I thought I would. ATM he's a level 2 cleric of Moradin with the protection and good domains. Unfortunately I do not have a clue on where to take this char or what to take for a feat next level. So far He's... 12 str 10 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 16 Wis 10 Cha Skills: 5 in each of know(religion), know(planes), and conc. The knowledges is to gain knowledges for the group that would otherwise not have them. While the group does seem to focus more on the know(arcana) and spellcrafting skills. (usually stuck with atleast two people with these skills) Feats: Combat Casting (might retrain for skill focus(conc)) So what I'm asking is can you make a progression for a solid prestige class? I want full caster progression and if I would take a cohort I'd think I'd take some version of a bard. |
| MwaO12-18-07, 09:54 AM | I'd get Augment Healing(via retraining) and Craft Wondrous Item(3rd level feat). Craft your Wisdom Periapt and Pearls. Prestige Classes tend to depend on access with non-Radiant Servant Clerics. I'd look for Ruathar access if you can get it, but there's nothing especially wrong with Cleric 15 - the important thing is not to lose caster levels. |
| _metz_12-18-07, 10:01 AM | I would suggest retraining the Good domain to something else too. My Moradin Cleric is an Earth Dramer for flavour, there are lots of things like that out there. Just don't lose caster levels and you will be fine. You Strength doesn't really cut it for a battle cleric, and you are probably best not focusing on turning, so just be a generic cleric if I were you. The stats don't give much to work with unfortunately. Maybe Combat Medic if you get access? Earth Dreamer is a nice FUNKY one. |
| andymet12-19-07, 01:22 AM | Well I wasn't really looking to be a combat cleric, the strength is there mainly for carrying capacities. I mainly want to be a support char for my teammates. The Ruathar idea was pretty good and meets most of my needs but what to do after that? As for feats I think I may switch from combat casting to skill focus(concentration) considering some of the fights I've been I need the higher concentration checks that weren't in combat. Other things I was thinking about was getting the tower shield proficiency, though I heard there was a shield just as good as the tower shield that was open access. I though getting Craft Wonderous Item now would be a bit too early since a lot of the items requiring pretty high CLs in order to craft them? Any other suggestions? |

Skill Focus(Concentration) is one of those feats that can be useful in the baby levels, but Augment Healing means you don't need to cast as often. This is especially true once you get to 5th and can cast Insignia of Healing - without Augment, you heal 1d8+5. With Augment, you heal 1d8+11. That's essentially empowering it and you don't need to be next to the person to deliver it. Hide Shield is Open and better than the Tower Shield in many ways. CWI - the CLs don't count for anything unless it specifically says that you need a particular caster level to create something, such as Bracers of Armor or Cloak of Resistance. You can use CWI to craft yourself a Periapt of Wisdom at 3rd or 4th. You can do the same for Pearl 1s if you get access or a Healing Belt or two. |
| zoinks6912-19-07, 04:21 PM | As far as prestige classes, consider Contemplative (need certed access) or Church Inquisitor (same) or Hierophant (if you think you'll be playing LOTS before the end of the campaign). Earth Dreamer is a nice option as well -- being able to run around with cover at all times comes in handy. Personally I'm not sure how much I'd worry about investing feats in Concentration. Just convince the table mates that they need to be in a protective formation around you ;) You should be attempting to stay out of combat as much as possible. Check out Divine Ward/Extra Turning as a way to accomplish this. Domains: Moradin's options are kinda disappointing. Consider getting an atonement to Pholtus ;D Assuming you don't want to do that -- Earth/Fire is a nice combination if you were a turning type (elementals generally don't have turn resistance, in fact some are susceptible to cleric turning). Good and law are fine -- one or the other will let you eventually craft prayer beads. Strength and War is a nice combo for fighter type. I guess Protection is ok since none of the others really fit your stats. If it were me, I'd play to your strengths -- get Divine Ward and Augment Healing, sit back and cast and help the party (buff/buff/heal). Let the fighters take the hits and let the arcane do the battlefield control. |
| TWG_Prometheus12-19-07, 06:20 PM | I'm not so sure that retraining his domains is all that necessary. The Good domain isn't flashy, but it has some very solid spells in it, including a Good domain exclusive in Holy Smite. It also doesn't share any spell choices with Protection. I really like seeing Circle of Protection against Evil as a domain spell, since he'll always have it available unless he chooses Protection from Energy. (And the times you'd choose Protection from Energy are the times you know you'll need it. Dirty dragons....) The combination isn't ideal, but this character's stats aren't well built for wading into the frontlines, and Good/Protection sounds just fine for the role he'll likely find himself in. Retraining feats sounds much more important at any rate. I'm tempted to say straight Cleric and don't worry about the Bard. You'll want the feats for yourself. |
| andymet12-21-07, 07:37 AM | Results right now: Retrained to war domain (spriritual weapon was too good at the moment to pass up and I need the + to hit Finally got my MW full plate, been saving up for the last 5 mods to help pay for it) but now broke Took Craft Wondrous Item for now, crafting 2nd lvl pearls once I get access seems way to good to pass up. Future Retrain combat casting to augment healing feat next level Retrain/Attone to pholtus and take Glory and Good domains (before 6th) Take Extra turning next feat Go for Radiant Servant of Pholtus, of course this can all change due to access to certain prestige classes but right now this looks like the best way to go. BTW by access to sum domain it doesn't mean I have to take it does it? So what do you guys think? |

BTW by access to sum domain it doesn't mean I have to take it does it? You have to take the sun domain to get into Radiant Servant. This is clarified in the LGCS or one of the Dispel Confusions. What do you really want to do with your PC? Just stay in back healing or casting spells? If you had access, combat medic is a very good PrC for healers. The payoffs are kind of long term at this point. Contemplative is also nice, though, again, takes a long time to get there. Of course, having invested heavily in cha as a dwarf, it'd be nice to take advantage of it. You can remain a straight cleric and still use divine ward or other turning based feats, if you don't want to give up your domains or pick a silly deity such as Pholus. ;) |
