| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 12:41 PM | Another of my characters leveled up, so I'd like to see if I'm doing this right. :D Wild Elf of Volmirith Str: 14 Dex: 19 Con: 12 Int: 14 Wis: 8 Cha: 8 Fighter 1: Dodge, Mobility Swashbuckler 1: Weapon Finesse Ranger 1: Favored Enemy (Elementals), Improved Weapon Familiarity Fighter 2: Weapon Focus (Longsword) Ranger 2: Two Weapon Fighting My next level is going to be Dervish. Here's my conundrum. I was playing around with the idea of becoming an Exotic Weapon Master. Now, technically, the courtblade, thinblade, and lightblade are all exotic weapons. Does my Improved Weapon Familiarity count for access into this? Probobly not. Anywho, I'm going Dervish this level and then going to go tempest next. Any suggestions for what to do next? |
| bhale18701-18-07, 01:00 PM | Champion of Corellon 2 would be a nice addition |
| LachlarlanIII01-18-07, 01:02 PM | Champion of Corellon 2 would be a nice addition He doesn't qualify. He needs Combat Expertise and Mounted Combat. |
| bhale18701-18-07, 01:04 PM | he or she (forgive me not sure on your gender) is just taking dervish and plans on tempest, I figured he/she could pick those up along the way and get it at lvl 10 |
| bhale18701-18-07, 01:08 PM | 2 levels of wildrunner could be very helpful also |
| Kithran01-18-07, 01:41 PM | Improved Weapon Familiarty would qualify for Exotic Weapon Master. Improved Weapon Familiarity would not qualify for Champion of Corellon (based on what I was told by Crieghton, check the post I've just made on the LG Questions thread). Of course you have WF Longsword so its moot for the CoC anyway. Kithran |
| Alpha_Nerd01-18-07, 02:06 PM | Am I missing something or does he not qualify for Dervish? No combat expertise |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 02:20 PM | Wait...grr...now I'm screwed up. You're right...what happened to my feats? |
| bhale18701-18-07, 02:22 PM | Am I missing something or does he not qualify for Dervish? No combat expertise Nope, it looks like teh rest of us were missing something ;) I just assumed the build was prereq'd for dervish since OP said that was next class level. |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 02:27 PM | Ah...ok. Now that I went out to my car to figure this out. Stupid character sheets. No, I don't have IWF yet. That is my sixth level feat. I don't know how I got that mixed up with Combat expertice. I'll post the fixed version up here now. Sorry about the confusion. :P Wild Elf of Volmirith Str: 14 Dex: 19 Con: 12 Int: 14 Wis: 8 Cha: 8 Fighter 1: Dodge, Mobility Swashbuckler 1: Weapon Finesse Ranger 1: Favored Enemy (Elementals), Combat Expertice Fighter 2: Weapon Focus (Longsword) Ranger 2: Two Weapon Fighting Dervish 1: Improved Weapon Familiarity |
| Alpha_Nerd01-18-07, 02:37 PM | ok, I assume you're a wood elf, not a wild elf. What are you going to use IWF for? |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 02:42 PM | Yes, woodelf. Not all together here today. *sniffles* Courtblade, thinblade, and lightblade. All of them are weapon finessable, they have a high crit range, and the courtblade is two handed. I already have a courtblade and a +1 thinblade. All I need access to now is a lightblade and I'll be happy. I've got a Belt of One Mighty Blow for the courtblade, then I move and pull out my duel weild, flank, and start hitting. |
| Mattastrophic01-18-07, 02:53 PM | Well, here's your problem... You have to be wielding slashing weapons in dervish dance. Thinblades and Lightblades are piercing weapons, which limits you to the courtblade, which is two-handed and won't work with Two-Weapon Fighting. And as for the Improved Weapon Familiarity issue: as per Complete Warrior, yes, it counts toward Champion of Corellon and Exotic Weapon Master. Complete Warrior page 155: "Even if a character treats an exotic weapon as a martial weapon thanks to weapon familiarity, it is still treated as an exotic weapon for the purpose of qualifying for feats, prestige classes, or other benefits that require the character to be skilled in the use of an exotic weapon." -Matt |
| bhale18701-18-07, 03:01 PM | If you are intent on using the elven blades I would suggest giving up Devish and taking on CoC, and wildrunner, both work very well for the high dex melee builds and the CoC is particularly well suited for the elven blades |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 03:16 PM | I don't think I'm going Dervish for the dance. I believe that I'm taking it purely for Spring Attack so I can get into Tempest easier. And I don't know how CoC would help me that much. I don't have Cha, I'm not wearing heavy armor... |

| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 03:32 PM | Oh... O.O OH! I want CoC now...hmmm...now I need to figure out what to do. What are the pre-requisits for CoC again? Other then the WF(Longsword) and being an elf worshipper of Correllon? |
| LachlarlanIII01-18-07, 03:33 PM | I think you need Diplomacy and Knowledge (Religion) as skills, and I know you need Mounted Combat. Edit Edit: Misread your level structure. |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 03:35 PM | ... >.< Damn it. Mounted Combat is another feat I have to blow... *sigh* I really wanted the dex to damage... |
| Alpha_Nerd01-18-07, 03:43 PM | If you really want spring attack, CoC can pick it up as a bonus feat. Just drop IWF for now, pick up mounted combat and go into CoC as soon as you can. Maybe for your 6th lvl go ranger 3 for endurance in case you go into wildrunner next. |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 03:47 PM | Mmmm...I'm really gonna have to think about this. This character was going to be a TWF full tempest before retirement...I just didn't think it was gonna be it's last levels... |

Maybe for your 6th lvl go ranger 3 for endurance in case you go into wildrunner next. Or if you go Swash for your next two levels you gain Insightful Strike and can add your Int to damage as well. CoC also requires BAB 7+. |
| CrystalBlue01-18-07, 04:00 PM | Damn...so...Swashbuckler for the next two levels to get Insightful Strike...and then at level 8 get Champion of Correllon...take that for three levels untill Tempest at the end. *whines* Wow...tempest is gonna be really useless at that point... |
| Alpha_Nerd01-18-07, 04:01 PM | I double checked and CoC gets a bonus feat at 1st level, easily replacing the feat you used to get into it. So, 6th and 7th pick up swashbuckler 2-3 and mounted combat, at 8th pick up spring attack with your first CoC level, 9th pick up ITWF and Elegant Strike (dex to damage) with your second CoC level and 10th-14th do tempest. Or if you wanna move CoC to behind tempest take up to fighter 4, pick up spring attack and ITWF, 8-12 pick up tempest with 13th and 14th being CoC. You eat a 20% exp penalty but if you don't mind it will bring tempest 2 levels closer. |
| ithardin01-18-07, 05:14 PM | Champion of Correllon Larethian (Races of the Wild, pg. 113) Elf or half-breed (he he he-couldn't resist) Any non-evil BAB: +7 Diplomacy 4 ranks, Knowledge Religion 2 ranks Proficient with all martial weapons and heavy armor Combat Expertise Dodge Mounted Combat Must worship Correllon Larethian Must either have Weapon Focus (longsword) or Exotic Weapon Focus (Thinblade or Courtblade). |

Tempest tends to be useless regardless of when you get it. Most builds can't actually afford Weapon Specialization for it. One nice aspect of Dervish, btw, is that Scimitar becomes a light weapon that is also usable to do Champion of Corellon damage. So you can use your Weapon Finesse with TWF and get CoC damage. |

| Iswald01-20-07, 09:27 AM | I double checked and CoC gets a bonus feat at 1st level, easily replacing the feat you used to get into it. CoCL bonus feats are limited to fighter bonus feats that require one of combat expertise, dodge or mounted combat. So, while they will help with getting spring attack, they won't work for TWF feats. The third level of CoCL won't mesh well with dervish, so shouldn't be taken, unless you're aiming for the second bonus feat at the fourth level. |
