| GreatSiron02-13-07, 01:09 PM | I was thinking about building a character that takes advatage of both evasion and mettle, so id never take anything on a successful save. I was thinking either Hexblade Monk or Hexblade Rogue, but i have no idea of what prestige classes to go with it. Any ideas? |
| Alpha_Nerd02-13-07, 01:14 PM | 1 level in Pious Templar gets you mettle |
| GreatSiron02-13-07, 01:21 PM | Ok Pious Templar sounds like the better idea, but which evasion class to use, monk or rogue? I'd prefer monk, since it has better saves, but I wouldn't be able to train any further in it after i take the first Pious Templar Lvl. |
| Japangirl02-13-07, 01:28 PM | I'd go monk if you only want the evasion, unless you want random things like trapfinding and 1d6 sneak attack. Of course if you did go rogue, you could always get the feat Staggering Strike and then stagger opponents if you did happen to get the sneak attack in (in a flank, or if they're blind, or if you go first, basically, though there are other ways. Grease also comes to mind). |
| Alpha_Nerd02-13-07, 01:31 PM | Monk or Rogue depends entirely on the character. What exactly do you want to do besides have mettle and evasion? |
| bitznarf02-13-07, 01:40 PM | You can also get Evasion through Master Thrower I do believe. |
| Alpha_Nerd02-13-07, 01:42 PM | Barbarian 2/Fighter 4/Master Thrower 5/Pious Templar 4 Would have Mettle, Evasion, and Uncanny Dodge as well as a slew of other abilities. |
| LachlarlanIII02-13-07, 01:47 PM | 1 level in Pious Templar gets you mettle Hexblade 3 gives you Mettle and Arcane Resistance. |
| Tahldrehlian02-13-07, 11:05 PM | Monk/Paladin/Pious Templar with Ascetic Knight would get Evasion, Mettle and Charisma to saves (though Charisma is usually a dump stat for monks, but that's what cloaks are for) |
| Lomiat02-14-07, 05:34 PM | My fighter's going for both Mettle and Evasion. He's got Evasion, but Mettle comes later in the build. Currently, he's Bbn1/Ftr2/Hex1/Rog3/Occult Slayer5. He'll eventually take 2 more levels of Hexblade and get not only Mettle, but also boost all his saves against magic to +4 (he has a negative CHA, but the Hexblade bonus is still nice when it stacks with the +3 from Occult Slayer). In general, though, if you're looking for the best saves for the abilities, you're looking at a Monk/Pious Templar: Mnk2/Rgr4/Pious TemplarX |
| GreatSiron02-14-07, 05:43 PM | I've decided on trying one of the following builds, though I'm still open to suggestions: Rhennee Human CG STR 14 DEX 14 CON 14 WIS 12 INT 8 CHA 14 Lvl 1: Rogue 1 Feats: Dodge and True Believer (Kord) Lvl 2: Barbarian 1 Lvl 3: Fighter 1 Feats :Weapon Focus (Greatsword) and Mobility Lvl 4: Rogue 2 Stat bump STR Lvl 5: Fighter 2 Feat: Spring Attack Lvl 6: Rogue 3 Feat: Iron Will Lvl 7: Pious Templar 1 Lvl 8: Holy Liberator 1 Stat bump STR Lvl 9: Holy Liberator 2 Feat: Power Attack Lvl 10+: Holy Liberator The second build: Human Rhenne LG STR 16 DEX 14 CON 14 INT 8 WIS 12 CHA 10 Lvl 1: Paladin 1 Feats: Weapon Focus and Ascetic Knight Lvl 2: Monk 1 Feat: Improved Grapple Lvl 3: Paladin 2 Feat: True Believer Lvl 4: Monk 2 Stat Bump STR Feat: Combat Reflexes Lvl 5: Paladin 3 Lvl 6: Monk 3 Feat: Improved Int. Lvl 7: Pious Templar 1 Lvl 8: Occult Slayer 1 Stat Bump STR Lvl 9: Occult Slayer 2 Feat: Power Attack Lvl 10-12: Occult Slayer Lvl 13+: Pious Templar Obviously both builds are restricted to light armor, making mithril access a must find. The difference is that the second build has better saves, and mostly likely better attack power, but the first build gains it's immunity to compulsion two levels earlier and give a bonus to its friends :) Not to mention with spring attack it's less likely to be hit in the first place. |

| ranagrande02-14-07, 09:57 PM | Ranger 1/Cleric 1/Paladin 2/Fighter 2/Divine Oracle 2/Pious Templar 1/Shining Blade 1/Warpriest 1/Bloodhound 1/Beastmaster 1/Dark Hunter 1/Wildrunner 1 This build gives you Mettle and Prescient Sense, which is better than Evasion because it can be used in heavy armor, so you can have high AC in addition to always being able to save for no damage. It has a base attack bonus of +13 and base save of +22 fortitude, +10 reflex, and +14 will, plus its Charisma bonus to each of them. The downsides are that a lot of feats need to be burned to qualify for the various prestige classes and that you need to be elfy. Also, it will likely have to use the retraining skill option a few times. |
