| control freak08-14-07, 03:34 PM | be human? and take slightly different stats |
| Arassuil08-14-07, 03:37 PM | If I were to play a character likes this, I'd try to get max ranks into Perform (Racing) or something similar. And try to earn extra gold after regional mods by racing against horses or something ;) |
| Grantor08-14-07, 03:50 PM | Mounted builds can almost beat that. In fact, they can beat that for charging: Druid 5/Beastmaster 3/Wild Plains Outrider 2/Cavalier 2 That gives your light riding horse a move of 70, but 280 for a charge. And as a companion improves, he can take all of the same movement increasing feats, so with Fleet of Foot and Dash that's speed 80, 320 charge and he starts with Run. And only at level 12. And since he is your animal companion, you should have no trouble making the free action rolls every round to Push the animal and do whatever you would want each round of combat. Speed by level: 1: 60 and Run feat. 3: 65 with Fleet of Foot feat (for horse). 6: 70 with Dash feat (for horse). 8: 80 with Wild Plains class feature. 12: 80 with 4x charge from Cavalier class feature. Meanwhile, your character can still take combat feats (which you need for Cavalier qualifications anyway). |
| kenobi6508-14-07, 04:07 PM | Speed= 30 base +10 barbarian +10 celerity domain +10 wildrunner +5 Dash feat +40ft monk=105ft movement, 525ft in a round running. Or, just a hair under 60 miles per hour. Hope those are masterwork, rubber-soled boots you're wearing. ;) |
| Jay_Ibero_91108-14-07, 04:15 PM | Well this isn't a serious character idea...just trying to see the fastest non-mounted character I could put together. Human wouldn't work because I'd need to come up with another 10ft of movement to replace wildrunner. |
| Istaran08-14-07, 06:04 PM | Would half-elf work? Do they qualify for Wild Runner? I know they get the human-like favored class (any). |
| Grantor08-14-07, 06:19 PM | You could drop Run and start working on the Spring Attack tree... |
| Jay_Ibero_91108-14-07, 07:14 PM | Would half-elf work? Do they qualify for Wild Runner? I know they get the human-like favored class (any). Hmm, that would work actually. Loses a little bit of power, but is free of the xp penalty. You could drop Run and start working on the Spring Attack tree... Good idea to make the character more useful. Spring attack to outside of even charge distance of some enemies. |
| Timlagor08-14-07, 09:58 PM | Wizard 12, spend a 3rd level spell*: speed 240' flying :D * Not technically a buff since you are summoning a Phantom Steed rather than casting a spell on a person |
| Jay_Ibero_91108-14-07, 10:37 PM | Wizard 12, spend a 3rd level spell*: speed 240' flying :D * Not technically a buff since you are summoning a Phantom Steed rather than casting a spell on a person Someone obviously hasn't read the thread...I mentioned I was looking for fastest speed on foot. Of course anyone can book with a phantom steed. Going 109.09 miles/hour if it is capable of running for a full hour...this depends on if the phantom steed is capable of suffering fatigue/exhaustion and if it has a constitution score or not, or if it is even considered a creature... |
| Cardinal Teplin08-15-07, 03:15 AM | Druid 5, cleric 1, shove in a couple levels of monk and tatooed monk as in the first build. Feats: dash and cheetah's speed Base move 50, +10 celerity. +40 monk +5 dash Exactly the same 105 movement rate.... ...but you can charge 1050 feet. Top up with drunken master and you don't even need to do it in a straight line. |
| Timlagor08-15-07, 06:49 AM | You used to be able to Wildshape into a Hippogryph but I don't think that's an option any more. |
| Hariman08-15-07, 10:55 AM | Actually, with dodge, mobility and spring attack, plus a way to do damage via those spring attacks, you could have a great build here. Why yes, I did just travel the whole way around the huge creature (with reach) just to spring attack the guy on his opposite side an keep the party wizard covered. But drop the Dash feat/run feats. They really don't do that much. |
| clannagh08-15-07, 09:09 PM | If you are looking at maximum possible run speed then 5 levels of druid would give you Cheetah's Speed resulting in 50' base movement for an hour and a run speed of 10X once per day. |
| Tengu08-15-07, 09:22 PM | If you can take a level of Dervish, you could literally run circles around you opponent and just strike each time you get a flank… and then still run off to protect the wizard. |
| Fsi-Dib08-16-07, 02:12 AM | Well, lemme tell you a thing. My brother started Living Greyhawk about 1 year ago (and his main character is already 8th level! Thank RHoD) and he made a Barbarian 1/Cleric of Rillifane Rallathil 1/Ranger 3/Fighter 1/Wildrunner 2. Okay, he's speed is .. 30ft + 10ft (fast movement) + 10ft (celerity domain) + 10ft (wildrunner), and possibly +30ft (expeditious retreat), though that's a buff. In my opinion expeditious retreat and haste both negate the need for monk levels. Sure, they are buffs, but attempting for a great speed with monk levels is not very wise. The last possibilities for increasing speed exist in Complete Champion, but I doubt we'll ever get all the accesses we need. |
| Morgen08-16-07, 11:37 PM | How about a Half-Orc Barbarian 1/Monk 15? That'd get you a base land speed of 80, without an XP penalty. Not sure if a Monk's Belt would help.... |
