| Rerednaw03-13-07, 03:31 PM | I do not play evokers. I prefer battlefield controller, summoners, transmuters, etc. However I am toying with an idea (no prestige classes): Burne/Pyro/Tindertwig Human Wizard (evoker?) Str 8 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 16 Wis 12 Cha 8 - 6 6 10 4 - 2 more points into? Feats L1 - Spell Focus: Evoc L1 (bonus feat)- Empower Spell L3 - Fiery Burst L5 - Metamagic School Focus (evoc) - don't have books with me not sure if this can be taken as a wizard bonus feat. If not then swap L5 and L6 feat choices. L6 - Maximize Spell L9 - Energy Substitution (fire to ???) - retrain Fiery Burst into compatible feat. Or alternatively spend 2 levels retraining Maximize spell into the level 3 slot and something else in level 6 slot. L10 - Sculpt Spell Thoughts: I passed on Point Blank Shot and Precise shot. There are spells (Truestrike, Guided Shot, etc.) than can help deal with firing into cover. At level 6 you have 2 Empowered Scorching Rays. At level 7 you have a 8d6 Empowered Fireball. At level 9 you have a 10d6 Maximized Fireball. If you retrain out of Fiery Burst be sure to take a reserve feat that will complement the Energy Substitution. I realize evocation (especially fire) is regarded as suboptimal. In spite of that, what do you folks think? |

Go Evoker so you don't need spell focus for MMSF. Good schools to ban include enchantment, necromancy (if you can do without false life) and illusion (if you can do without invisibility). Put the points into wisdom to up your will save more, or secondarily strength for carrying capacity. Personally, as a fire mage, I'd go with an 18 intelligence for DC's unless I'm a scorching ray specialist (in which case sonic rays are better, anyway). Otherwise, your build looks just fine. If you get access to Searing Spell, be sure to pick it up at your next opportunity. Retrain something out if necessary. Energy Substitution (cold) is a decent choice for a fire mage, as creatures who are immune to one are rarely immune to the other (you will see dual resistances time to time, though). |

Uh...I'm sorry...Jinnbond? It is not in the feat index. Is it in 315 or 319...I'd have to buy them and would prefer to only buy the one I need. |
| DroidTrooper03-13-07, 06:50 PM | Jinnbound is in Dragon 319. Only sorcerers get the bonus to spell DCs I believe. Its abeen a long time since I went and read it though. Also http://crystalkeep.com/d20/index.php has been undated this month so its lists are more current. A good reference for finding the sources of feats/prestige classes etc. Though its not perfect. |

Thanks for the scoop. Franco Un-American: Sorry doesn't work for wizards. Would be nice if it did though. |
