| ShinAkuma207-20-07, 12:48 AM | I suddenly was hit by a desire to make a Divine Crusader (edit: Not Champion, silly me) of Kord with the Competition Domain. A simple character, just Fighter levels until the PrC. Until I decided I wanted Practiced Spellcaster. I don't mind cross-classing Knowledge Religion. It's 4 points spent, no big deal. However, cross-classing 8 points for Spellcraft means, essentially, 4 levels of getting no skill points, since Spellcraft won't be particularly useful outside of the feat. Since I had originally chosen Fighter7 to get me to the PrC, I could easily swap out that 7th Fighter level for something else. However, I'm having difficulty finding a Full BAB class/PrC that grants Spellcraft and/or Religion as class skills, so I can do some retraining. What say you, o wise LG community? I kind of considered Pious Templar, but I'm not sure if I like it for this character. I've already got another guy on the road to Templar, and I don't want to overlap too much. Monk, Paladin, and Hexblade could have been squeezed in, if not for alignment issues (I've gotta be CG). If I can't find anything, I'll likely just use Fighter6/Barb1 and suck up the crossclassing. The character will have decent Str, Con, and Cha, and his feats, if necessary for prereqs, are malleable. The only things I really have set in stone would be the Weapon Focus Greatsword to get into the class, and Shock Trooper (and requisite feats). I had planned for the Destiny feats from Races of Destiny, because I think they're really cool, but I could probably be swayed. |

| _metz_07-20-07, 01:06 AM | I don't have any Forgotten realms/Faerun stuff, so you'll have to tell us what the class gives you and what it's prereqs are if we are to help much, its not from a standard LG source by any means. I am surprised if its available in LG, even by want of a special mission... (hence the above statement I believe.) |
| lunarfish07-20-07, 01:12 AM | Do you perhaps confuse the FR "Divine Champion" with the Complete Divine's "Divine Crusader"? I was under the impression that FR material was disallowed in the Living Greyhawk campaign (I could be wrong, though). |
| Maesto07-20-07, 04:25 AM | A ranger level at first will give you plenty of skillpoints to play with, although not the class skills. You only lose one hitpoint for the skills. May introduce multiclass penalties. A paladin level will give knowledge religion as a class skill, but may not go with your alignment. If the alignment works, the second level of paladin works nicely with the charisma needed for a Divine Crusader. That's all I can think of for the moment; there may be a PRC that does it also, but I doubt it. Fighters don't usually get skillpoints and BAB :P |
| Mommy was an Orc07-20-07, 10:09 AM | Pious Templar doesn't have spellcraft either... You could start out with Hexblade at 1st, then switch alignments to CG. Yes, you're an ex-Hexblade, but you at least get a decent starting skill list and you've kind of still got a claim to being a 'Fighter 7'. I think Swashbuckler has some similar charms for that. Barbarian is nice if you go Extra Rage and Intimidating Rage - that gets some synergy to your Charisma stat. Outcast Champion 2 is a good addition as well. Up to you of course, but I think a pure Fighter entry into Divine Crusader is just asking for it. If you get Melee Weapon Mastery at 9th, you can't retrain out of Weapon Specialization at 12th... |
| ShinAkuma207-20-07, 01:59 PM | Whoops, yeah, I meant to say Divine Crusader. I wasn't aware of any FR classes, since I don't have any FR books. Pious Templar doesn't have spellcraft either... Yeah, I know, but if I don't have to cross-class Religion, that leave more points I can put in Spellcraft. Outcast Champion is Half-Elf/Half-Orc only, right? This character's a human, since I have a glut of non-humans already. I've already got one of each, no desire to do another Half-Elf...I could do Half-Orc, but I'd have to see how the point buy works out...As it is, I'm getting 3 skill points per level. I don't want to see that drop to 1. Also, the hit to Cha doesn't help. Yeah, so I guess I'll go with Ftr6/Barb1, and suck up the cross-class for Religion...I'll decide later if I really need Practiced Spellcaster. I just really like the idea of all those buffs you eventually get with Competition Domain lasting for more than a couple of rounds. Oh, I guess I could have said that, if anyone knows a PrC with Spellcraft that you could enter after getting into Crusader, that'll work just as well, but I'm not too gung-ho about it...I really just wanted to see if it was reasonably possible. |

You could do Fighter 4/Favored Soul 4 to pick up spellcraft and more charisma based casting as well. Alternately you could take the Well Read regional feat to make all knowledges class skills. |
| ShinAkuma207-20-07, 09:54 PM | Hm, Well-Read might work. It depends on if this character is Keoland or not...He might end up my Greyhawk character (I "accidentally" started my original Greyhawk character before realizing the Greyhawk was supposed to be first). Push comes to shove, he could be Suel...Hm... Thanks for the suggestions. :) |

| nobodez07-21-07, 02:52 PM | the easiest way is to take a level or two of Hexblade (that's what I did with my Occult Slayer). Spellcraft's a class skill, and it'll give you a nice Will bump. |
