I am in a quandry on what the next step is for my character.

Background, at level 2, he was a Fighter/Transmuter before getting a royal smach down from a hill giant. (Ok, A for effort, F to brains) At the begining of the year, I was set up as Ftr2/Rgr3 then taking a dip in Horizion Walker for the Darkvision and then into EWM for 2 levels (Flurry/Exotic reach) before the latest LGCS changed everything. With that, going back to being a gish was a no brainer.

Currently he is setup as a Ftr2/Rgr3/Div2 so I craft magic items shortly (at 9th). He is currently running around in mithral fullplate and uses verbal spells (Truestrike, Benign trans) to help the party. The goal is a battlefield control gish at both long range and up close (Enlarged trips).

Human (Oer) S:17 D:14 C:14, I:14, W:8, Ch:6 (Don't ask)
Ftr 1 Cbt Ref, Cbt Exp, Imp Trip
Ftr 2 EW: Spike Chain
Rgr 1 PA (Track, FE:Giants)
Rgr 2 (Rapid Shot)
Rgr 3 (Endurance)
Div 1 WF:Spiked Chain
Div 2

I could take another wizard level and hop into Spellsword for three and then into EK but that would cost too many spell levels. So, where should I go?

It depends on where your skill points are right now, but why not go Unseen Seer? Ranger 3 in theory could have already almost qualified you for it already.

Adding Rogue 1/Unseen Seer 4/Spellsword 3 gets you a +11 BAB, 4th level spells, +3d6 Sneak, the ability to cast Blink, makes you a trapfinder, everything is good...

It wouldn't provide any ability to ignore ASF and he's in Fullplate, so I think that at least one level of Spellsword is a must here unless he's satisfied with never doing Somatics. Ignoring Somatics or using Silent Spell is an option, however. Another problem with Unseen Seer here is that the character can't use Practised Spellcaster to offset the caster level drop because they're so far behind already.

I think the main thing that kegdrainer needs to settle on is how much commitment he's going to put into his spells. He's starting out down by five spell levels, and that hurts. Some options:

1. Bag the spellcasting gig and call it a day. You've got two Wizard levels for some utility but haven't otherwise disrupted your build much. No additional BAB loss.
2. Continue with casting progression, but just be satisfied with what comes your way. Go heavy into Spellsword and stop worrying about spell levels you aren't getting. Channel Spell is pretty cool even if you aren't stuffing Cone of Cold into it. This is your only real option to get somatic spells running with mithril fullplate on since that happens at Spellsword 7. You won't hit 0% ASF until 15th character level though. -1 BAB for Spellsword entry & 4th level spells.
3. Go Unseen Seer and either avoid somatic spells, precast long duration ones or use Silent Spell to negate the ASF. Your caster level isn't going to progress quickly, but it won't be that bad. You'll lose a bit more BAB to Unseen Seer than either option above, but get better casting than either of the options above provides. -2 BAB & 5th level spells.

If I had to choose, I think I'd go with #1 myself. If he puts a lot of effort into becoming a caster over what he was doing before, he might start feeling like a Gish by level 13-15 or so, but that's a long time to go before your character comes together. Gish characters normally have a weak period where they don't quite feel right in the level 3-6 range. If this character tries to become a real Gish, they can make it, but their Ugly Duckling level range will be 8-11 or so.

TWG, option 2 is starting to look like an idea, picking up Arcane Strike at 12th.

How is Spellsword 3 not at least one level in Spellsword? And sure, the character can use Practiced Spellcaster to offset the caster level drop. Being caster level 11 as an 8th level Wizard is more than sufficient...
