I am planning on making a Healer who will also serve as a face for the party. I'd like to hear any suggested changes you all might have.

-I plan on wearing heavy armor and tower shield so I need high str, also he may do some rare front line help in low levels.
-I decided to take Favored Soul over cleric because of the added Cha that is helpful as the face.
-wis became the dump since I do not plan on offensive casting

Favored Soul doesn't get Knowledge(Religion) as a class skill...you can't qualify for Divine Oracle. You can't take True Believer until 3rd.

Wow, can't belief I missed that on knowledge, first time I have tried to build a FS.

Dang it Mommy you beat me to the response. Thats what I get for going to the store in the snow to get snacks.

I always wondered why they had Knowledge - Arcana and not Knowledge - Religion

Yes, that is the huge drawback of favored souls. Without knowledge religion or the ability to turn undead, there are very few beneficial prestige classes which they can access.

A cynical person might suggest it's because they copy/pasted from the Sorcerer skill list without changing anything...

so I take it the suggestion is to find a build that works :D

If you are in a region that offers Well Read. Thats the way to go. Eats up a feat but you can get that knowledge - religion that way

Also, favored souls are not proficient with heavy armor OR tower shields...

and by and large being a caster with a tower shield is a no go, as you cant canst spells with a shield and weapon.

He took 1 level of Fighter in that build somewhere. But as _m_ has stated using a tower shield and its either cast or have a weapon ready. Maybe he can get access to a casters shield or they put in the feat from PGB II that allows casting while holding a weapon.

casters shield is for wizards. lets you scribe a scroll (which you'll probably have to pay for, and goes on your CWI sheet) onto the back of it. he'd be better off trying for, say, an animated heavy mithril, or some such.

and you don't need the _'s in my name, just m will do (stupid 3 character minimum)

The plan post 3rd level with the tower shield was to cast unarmed or cast at -1 with still spell (I accidently typed in silent) depending on the situation. For the most part this is a support only build, and it will not be very effective in melee around the APL 4+ anyway.

I am concidering the well read, otherwise I might just have to make a cleric and drop the con and int for a wis boost. Taking cleric would open up radiant servant also so that is an obvious cheeser bonus.

Sorry that was my mistake mixing up the Casters shield with the Gauntlet shield. I stand corrected.

the question is, do you really want the tower shield? imo, you are much better off with a lighter shield, or even a shield spell, than a tower shield. you loose maybe a couple of ac, in exchange for having a weapon and being able to THREATEN.

Unless, of course, someone gives them Ruathar access.

I wasn't aware that Sorcerers lack the Bluff skill and had Diplomacy...

Here's my second try, it's not as effect for face at lower levels, but it will pick up sense motive in later levels as well as being a much better healer and the obvious advantages of turning.
Please criticize away.........

As M said, wouldn't count on those being around. Also, you need the underlying feat in order to use them - you need Quicken Spell to take Div MM-Quicken.

Is that prerequisite in errata or faq? I do not see that as a qualifier as I read it. Not trying to be argumentative, just curious.

As for not lasting you're probably right, but I figured it's worth a shot, and we should know on the LGCS before I get enough levels for it to be a problem.

That pious templar level looks pretty ugly in what's otherwise a full caster. A cleric doesn't need mettle. What he needs is to get his high-level nasty spells ASAP.

I'm not sure the oracle levels are worth the feat you blow on it. If you ditch it, you'll hit higher RS levels earlier. And I agree, PT doesn't do much for you. I'd get rid of it.

Straight up cleric works as a decent face too. Won't be one of those 'I've got a +472 to diplomacy' but you should be able to handle almost anything. I'd ask yourself if you really want/need all those skills;you could throw your cha to a 14 with a 10 int.

Few things:

Remember that Speak language is the most important face skill. It's great to have a good diplomacy check too, but if it's all "Uur, gak wheeble" you won't get real far.

I like this better as a cleric build. The high charisma will also help you turn undead, and healing clerics don't really need tons of wisdom.

The turning feats are quite nice. I'm a fan of sacred healing for post-fight healing, and divine spellpower is also very nice. For a tank-cleric, divine vigor is also solid.

You -could- go favored soul as well, don't get me wrong. It will still work, although prestige classes are scarce.

Craft Wondrous Item is a great feat for this build. In addition to the periapt of wisdom and the pearls of power, you can also make loads of things that will help you with people skills, like circlets of persuasion, cloaks of charisma, helms of comprehending languages, etc.

It's not all that bad to have a high int. Having a 14 cha instead of a 12 gets you only +1 more to your diplomacy check. If you have more skill points, you can put them into additional languages, bluff, knowledge [nobility], and sense motive to improve your diplomatic skills more than the +1 from the higher cha. Also, healers tend to need the ability to make a lot of concentration checks to cast defensively. For all the skills that would benefit this PC, a 14 int and 10 cha may be more useful than either 14 cha with 10 or 12s in both. Of course, clerics have other uses for charisma as well.
