| Shieldhart9111-07-07, 10:54 PM | I'm posing this as a question to the forum in terms of advancement...this is my cheesy character, whose build is below: Sir Jakken Shieldhart, Knight of Furyondy Fighter 4/Paladin 1/Knight Protector 3/Occult Slayer 1 ABILITIES: Str 17, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 12 FEATS: Weapon Focus (Greatsword), Weapon Specialization (Greatsword), Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Leadership, Improved Initiative, Mounted Combat, Iron Will (B) --- As far as equipment goes, he has a +1 Sacred Green Starmetal Greatsword; +1 Dwarvencraft Full Plate; Vest of Resistance +1; Gauntlets of Ghost Fighting [Wraith's Woe Set]; Hat of Disguise. That's it. Nothing incredibly special, but he's remarkable at what he does: Anti-Outsider. My question is, should I take the level in Sorcerer and go Dragon Disciple? Or should I take a couple more of Occult Slayer levels, and then do this? I'm at least taking one more level of Occult Slayer, and I could really use the ability bumps associated with Dragon Disciple. As for Spells, True Strike would be invaluable for that "Yeah, I'll Power Attack for full on the glabrezu...he's dead? Oh...my bad, guys" effect. He deals +1d6 to those with spell-like abilities or spells as a class feature; +3d6 to evil outsiders; +1d6 to undead. This character can literally face an army of 1,000 Hobgoblins from the Monster Manual and kill half of them in a round (kudos to Great Cleave feat and Supreme Cleave from Knight Protector.) Keep in mind those bonuses can keep coming and just get nastier and nastier: thanks to Sorcerer, hello Whirling Blade! Flame Blade! [W/ access] Etc, etc. I want a second opinion. PS: I need feats for 12th and 15th level. Melee Weapon Mastery [Slashing] coupled with that one feat that gives me a +4 to CL variables? Or Ride-By-Attack and Spirited Charge? (Dear god, the carnage!) PPS: I also have an Earth Dreamer Cohort (Cleric). Any thoughts on that? |

| _metz_11-08-07, 12:54 AM | not that cheesy... (that word gets thrown around too much these days) MWM is the way to go. Also you can't legally have an earth dreamer cohort tilllevel 10 - level 8 is the first timeone enters the class. You may need to review its legality if it already is one... |
| TWG_Prometheus11-08-07, 05:56 PM | I'd forget about Whirling Blade. It requires 4 levels in Sorcerer to start with, plus it has somatic components which would be...problematic in your armor. Going into Dragon Disciple this late in the game is doable, but moderately iffy. You're dropping 2 Base Attack Bonus for seven level 1 non-somatic spells per day and it'll take you five levels to finish the series and get your attack bonus back to where it should be. That's a long divergence at your level and would take you all the way to 14th, assuming you can get that far. The Dragon Disciple route would be healthy for your Will saves though. Dragon Disciple still wouldn't be horrible for you, but the current build doesn't lend itself to that direction. I don't have my books with me, but with that setup of classes I somewhat doubt that you have many of the 8 Knowledge(Arcana) ranks required for Dragon Disciple, and it's likely that you don't have the Draconic language either. It would take some stretching. I'd recommend looking more into the other Knightly PrCs available or, alternately, just continuing in Knight Protector. It's not a bad class and you already have most everything that you need. Melee Weapon Mastery is an easy choice. Just get it. |

| Ancillary11-08-07, 09:30 PM | Melee weapon mastery is the way to go. I would finish Occult Slayer for levels. You should also make sure you have an appropriate comp longbow for gear (for when said glabrezu uses reverse gravity). You could go Knight of Furyondy for cool flavor, but the class does not seem that amazing. I don't think Dragon Disciple is a good choice for this build. True strike is not that great, you will do more damage with 2 attacks than one power attacking for full. Can you retrain great cleave, or do you need it for Knight Protector? |
