| RedKnightofKet02-13-07, 09:50 PM | Okay, so here's the deal: I'm helping someone with a special mission request, and I have the option (according to my triad's website), to request something of my own. Among other possible request, I can ask for access to a variety of NONC things, be it prestige class access or requirements, a feat, or a spell. Where I'm stuck, though, is that I can't decide what to ask for, so I figured I would ask here, since I think there are some similar characters out there. Anyway, vital info: The special mission (APL 4) is for a cleric of Istus (Bahklunish goddess, aka Lady of the Fates). I am a dwarven cleric of Gendwar Argrim (Dwarven Hero-god, portfolio is fatalism and obsession, aka the Doomsayer Dwarf). Should be third level by the time the SM happens. I plan on going straight cleric, intending to use Smiting wherever possible. I'm geared towards being a combat cleric, and I already have Power Attack, and I use a Dwarven Waraxe. Any further questions, and I will gladly give you more details as to the character and my plans for him. |
| UMiskatonic02-13-07, 10:34 PM | Well, keep in mind that you can always choose not to choose. "Give me something nifty, please..." Aside from that, Cool options in my book involve making you either more 'dwarfy' or more 'Gendwar-like'. Can't think of a thing, aside from asking them about your own impending death. It would be really cool to have them prophesize that for you, and tell you, for example, "You will die fighting giants, in the OrionCon interactive, 598". Then you can get REALLY fatalistic. |
| RedKnightofKet02-13-07, 10:55 PM | That makes sense. :) I can go into it with a "it doesn't matter, we're all doomed anyway" approach. The other option, and I think only Keolanders will get this, but I want to destroy the Keoish town of Haven, a community of half-orcs, etc. I had a really negative experience there, and even swore an oath to one day destroy it. This should prove difficult, since this town is a rather active meta-org in Keoland... hard to ask for the Ket Triad to give me permission to demolish a Keoland triad. :P |

What was the negative experience there? Was it the intro mod? Oh jeez. Did they 'Hool-toss' you? Then again, at a con where a friend aquired some land, it was openly declared by several people that they wanted a special mission to burn down the warehouse he was going to build. Apparently they don't understand how vital underpants gnomes can be to the local economy. :P |
| RedKnightofKet02-13-07, 11:17 PM | Cycloptic, you've got it right. I didn't want to do it at all. I did the whole adventure while dragging my heels - it was completely against his character to do it.... New idea: see if I can swap out my first cleric level for the racial substitution in RS: means I get a smite giants instead of turn undead - fair trade for me :D |
| clannagh02-14-07, 12:25 AM | What about access to Gendwar contemplative ? That would give you law as a third domain .. not the world's best domain but OK and contemplative is very flavorful. |
| gomeztoo02-14-07, 07:49 AM | You can't actually let a Special Mission affect the region. There are a lot of things you could go for though, not all need to be access to feats and such. Possibilities: - resolving a personal grudge, or aiming for s specific goa, that only affects your PC - a waver for a requirement of a MO. I.e. if a MO you like to join requires you to be human, you could try to get that waved - favors with NPCs/organisations - a title, or symbolic position - an atonement (or an IOU for one. Hey. It COULD be useful) - nothing |
| paigeoliver02-14-07, 08:22 AM | If you REALLY want to affect the region you could always bring a table of like minded players to an interactive, ditch the mission and do what you were wanting to accomplish. |
| Gaelforcwynd02-14-07, 09:37 AM | What about access to Gendwar contemplative ? That would give you law as a third domain .. not the world's best domain but OK and contemplative is very flavorful. I agree. Please list the domains for that deity and your alignment and skills. Access to a PrC is surely the way to go. Actually I checked the domains. Which one's did you choose? I hope you took Celerity. Oracle is okay too. |
| Alpha_Nerd02-14-07, 10:28 AM | Maybe access to Church Inquisitor? It's Open but requires AR or Meta-Org documentation. |
| Golorious02-14-07, 01:12 PM | There a a bunch of spells that are handy since you have a special mission for a cleric and you are a cleric you can double up! :) There are just tons of great spells. But since this is a low mission I went (I think for 1-3rd level spells) Moon lust close wounds Conviction conviction, mass Divine protection Divine protection, mass Knight's Move (great for battle clerics) Align weapon, mass Aid, Mass Awaken Sin resistance greater Shield of faith mass Moon bolt |
| RedKnightofKet02-14-07, 08:38 PM | My domains are Destruction and War. Just looking at the some of the spells listed, and I think I am in love  with Awaken Sin. Being from Ket, a non-lethal spell could come in very handy...:schemes: |
| Gaelforcwynd02-15-07, 04:57 AM | Maybe access to Church Inquisitor? It's Open but requires AR or Meta-Org documentation. You need to be a member of a Lawful Good church or organisation to take the Church Inquisitor PrC. Istus is of Neutral alignment. So at best you could hope that being one axis off Lawful Good might scrape you into membership of a Lawful Good church or organisation. What alignment are you RedKnightofKet? |
| RedKnightofKet02-15-07, 10:00 AM | Just to make things clear, here: the initial mission is for someone going for Contemplative of Istus. I, a LN dwarf cleric, worship Gendwar Argrim. I've looked through all the prestige classes, and none really catch my fancy. Awaken Sin, however, looks like a great Ket-flavour spell, so that's likely what I will request as my part of the SM. At this point, I'm trying to see if anything comes up as a better idea than that. |
| jstorrie02-15-07, 12:34 PM | Awake Sin is definitely a better idea than the smite giants Dwarven sub (smite giants is far worse than turn undead) but I would keep in mind that nuking is generally a poor way to disable people. Bestow Curse and Blindness/Deafness are already good nonlethal ways to take someone down (is blinding someone illegal in Ket?) and you already have Hold Person as a will-targetting standard. It's not a poor pick if you can't find anything else, though. You might consider Battlecaster Offense or Spell Focus Enchantment-Chain Spell-Metamagic School Focus if you want to mix smashing with disabling. |
| RedKnightofKet02-15-07, 07:40 PM | Well, the giant smiting was mainly because the flavour fit very well with Gendwar, but I can make do without. Cha 6 doesn't lead to a lot of turning as it is... As for the legality of blinding somebody in Ket, I would think that, because it's a permanent affect, it would probably get me in trouble. And yes, there are better Open spells that create the same effect, I get something NONC for the character, and Awaken Sin would be a great fit. As for feats, I'm not sure I want access to a feat all that badly... at Lvl 3 I'm taking Dwarven Armor Prof (Interlocking plate), and at 6th I'm looking at Extra Smiting. I'll have to get a look at CM sometime, though.... |
| cycloptic_squirrel02-15-07, 09:52 PM | Cha of 6? So you get one turn attempt a day? That's not likely to be all that useful, whereas if you're a combat cleric you might not run into giants that often, but after looking at the smite ability, I'd definitely take it. What's your con? 16? At third level, it's only +3/+3, but you also get it 4 times a day. I'd say that worth being able to turn once a day. Either that or ask for a keg that floats around you like some obese ion stone. :dancin: |
| RedKnightofKet02-15-07, 10:48 PM | Con currently is 17, and will go up to 18 at 4th. But that substitution level stuff (as I have been told by my triad) is not on the list of options. :( Hmmm...... Keg Ion stone.... I *like* it! :D |
| solbergb02-16-07, 03:11 AM | You can't actually let a Special Mission affect the region. Not strictly true. I just wrote one that will tie up a minor plot thread affecting my region as a side-effect of the mission, if all goes well. Special missions are mostly about the characters involved, but that doesn't mean you can't tie it into the regional storylines if it makes sense to do so. |
