yes of course i am new to the LG rules and trying to make a fighter...I looked at the fast play dwarven fighter but when i added up the cost of all his gear it was well over 240gp (which i thought was the starting coin)...what am i missing here?

~thanks in advance

The Fastplay characters are riddled with errors, and you're much better off not playing one.

I'm not playing one...just trying to figure out if 240gp is correct for a starting fighter :(

Yes, 240gp is the correct starting amount, making the fastplay fighter an illegal character.

 i knew it, even a newbie will suspect there is something wrong with them :P

maybe the over-the-cap equipment is a try to compensate for a poor stat distribution;).

first thing:

DON'T TAKE ANY OF THE "FASTPLAY" CHARACTERS IF THERE IS ANY ALTERNATIVE, at least when you are planning a character with some prestige class that need early decisions.

the dwarven fighter has THREE odd stats, and TWO of these will hurt your character like a device with pointy spikes in a certain part of his anatomy

strength 15 is ok, you can put all your stat bumps here anyway.

intelligence 11: no use to do this, intelligence 10 gives the same skill points, int 13 would be needed to qualify for combat expertise.

wisdom 13: absolutely useless, unless one plans to take cleric (or other wis base divine caster levels) and then it should be 14.

not to mention a charisma of 8, either leave it at 6 or get it up to 10.

ps: the elven ranger is quite ok, the gnome rogue is ok, the halfling wizzard might take a metamagic feat instead of improved initiative, the half-orc monk is solid, the cleric should consider either drop dex or int to 8 to get con up to 14.
