Power Dervishes are the stronger way to go, in my opinion. Arcane-Strike Dervishes are possible but not really that feasible, and Sneak Attack doesn't work very well, either. Power Dervishes, anyway, are very solid, and you can't go wrong with something like– Human 16 14 14 14 8 8 1 Barbarian: Extra Rage, Combat Expertise 2 Fighter: Improved Trip 3 Fighter: Dodge, Mobility 4 Fighter 5 Fighter: Weapon Focus: Guisarme 6 Dervish: Weapon Specialization: Guisarme 7 Dervish 8 Dervish: Spring Attack, retrain Extra Rage to Power Attack 9 Dervish: Melee Weapon Mastery (Slashing) 10 Dervish 11 Dervish 12 Dervish: Elusive Target 13 Dervish 14 Dervish 15 Dervish: Slashing Flurry Yeah, you can't rage while dancing–but having Extra Rage in the low levels gives you something to do instead of dancing, and the +10 movement speed from Barbarian stacks with Dervish's, unlike Scout's. Power Attack comes in late, but Extra Rage trumps it in the low levels anyway–what you really want Power Attack for is abusing the high to-hit bonuses that Dervish provides, and that's a mid-level concern. Power Dervishes and Skirmish Dervishes are similar in power level in the mid to high levels (though I'd probably still give the edge to Power Dervishes.) I favour Power Dervishes because instead of being some godawful mutt who deals 1d6+maybe, maybe skirmish damage from levels 1-5, you're a raging, high-damage-dealing tripper/controller. |

If I took cleave and great cleave can I move between cleave granted attacks? cleave and great cleave say I can't. But the dervish class says I must move at least 5' between each attack. I know dervish gets cleave at level 4 but great cleave could be fun to cleanup mooks based on my movement speed. cleave could also be retrained out if not needed later. 2. If you have a polearm why would you not want to get combat reflexes? Are you assuming everyone will be tripped and not be able to get to you. |

If memory serves, the Dervish class description includes an ability that mimics Cleave, and that ability spelled out how it works. (you take the attack immediately without stepping) Taking a 5' step in the middle of a Cleave requires the Supreme Cleave ability, and I'm not 100% sure we've seen that since v3.5. |

| jared7108-03-07, 08:29 PM | What I was asking is that the dervish dance ability requires you to take a 5' move between each of your attacks. A cleave attack is an attack, correct? The cleave feat says that you can't move at all for this attack. Which feature is overriding? Well, I would assume that you wouldn't have to move if you use a combat reflexes attack (attack of opp). Also the dance of death - lvl 4 dervish - says that you can cleave and your not required to take a 5' movement between the cleave. So I would assume that at lvl 4 if your dancing you can choose to move or not between the cleave. thanks |

That is for the attacks during your full attack, not other ones like you might get from Improved Trip or Great Cleave. Also the dance of death - lvl 4 dervish - says that you can cleave and your not required to take a 5' movement between the cleave. So I would assume that at lvl 4 if your dancing you can choose to move or not between the cleave. That is just in there as a clarification, not a rules change. |
| Mithreinmaethor08-04-07, 06:08 AM | The "Dance of Death" ability which gives you the Cleave like ability states that you do not have to move before making the attack. But does not preclude you from doing so. |
