I'm curious what people thought of it, and if they had suggestions on it. Obviously, I'd either need a way to get all the Paladin levels I wanted at the same time, or get something that allowed me to multiclass freely. I'd probably want at least 5 levels of Marshal, and I'd be motivating either Dex or Cha most of the time. I'd want a build that was useful in Diplomatic situations, as well as being a decent off-tank or protector of the back ranks. Any thoughts? |

You're free to use the idea if you want since I can't anymore :D He had a 10 con and 16 cha; what I call max-min-ing. I roleplayed him as wanting to fit in with all the other dwarves, so he didn't cast anything that was obviously a spell or had somatic components (real dwarves hit things and wear lots of armor), he wore full plate and had a tower shield, took Motivate Con and Demand Fort so he could drink better to fit in and allow other dwarves to drink more, and Hardy Soldiers for good ole' dwarven hardiness. He was basically the antithesis of a dwarf that tried to do everything he could to be more dwarf like :) |

I have a 5th level marshall (Marshall 5/ Fighter 1) WITHOUT motivate charisma, with no diplomacy feats, who doesn't even have most of the synergies and he has never failed a diplomacy roll. 40 percent done with his career and he has yet to fail a roll, and his diplomacy still gets 1 better every level. Pretty much ANY other aura you took would be better for you than motivate charisma. There are really 2 basic reasons to ever take motivate charisma. The first is to make the character with +60 to diplomacy who can't do ANYTHING else, but can "defeat" anyone with diplomacy. The second is for for a dip level for a turning specialist cleric. Your dwarf isn't going to be a cleric, and isn't capable of being the 60 diplomacy guy (which gets really boring). I know a few players who made those characters and they all seem to have gotten tired of "beating" fights that way. If you aren't going to be a trip specialist then I suggest the DEX aura, the INT aura and the will save aura. As for your dwarves stats? I would start out with a 13 charisma, boosted at 4, 8, and 12, and make a cloak of charisma your second purchase (your first purchase being full plate). |

And there's the third reason - you don't want to invest a lot of skill points into charisma skills, yet you want to be good at them. At 8th level, you'll have spent 6 more skill points than my Bard 7/Marshal 1 on Diplomacy - yet most of the time, I'll be just as good at it as you are, sometimes significantly better. That happens across the board on all the face skills...leaving me a lot of points to spend on languages, UMD, sublime chord skills, etc... |
