| Lightblade04-07-07, 04:13 PM | Hi, all. At some point i'd like to make a martial character that hopes to become a Knight of the Watch. Flipping throught the books, it seemed like being a Divine Crusader of Cladagin Silverbeard with the Competition domain would be a nice way to go. I know a dwarf's CHA hit is hard on a divine crusader, but so long as I take advantage of the boosted CON, it should all even out, i guess. Trouble is, i'm at a loss at deciding how to start him out. I've decided on a combination of Fighter, Knight, and Paladin levels to get to 7 BAB, but not sure how to arrange them. Ideas i've thrown around in my head: Knight3 / Fighter 4 Knight 3 / Fighter 2 / Paladin 2 Knight 3 / Fighter 1 / Paladin 3 Knight 3 / Paladin 4 Knight 2 / Fighter 2 / Paladin 3 Knight 2 / Fighter 4 / Paladin 1 Attibutes would be Str 14 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 10 Wis 10 Cha 14 (or Wis 12 / Cha 13 if i end up with 4 levels of Paladin) Note that the Knights of the Watch require the feat Mounted Combat, so I don't see a point in only taking one level. On the flip side, as a dwarf I don't need the Knight 4 Armor Mastery ability. Also, I haven't considered any prestiege classes I could take before starting up Divine Crusader. If there are any you think would fit especially well, please let me know. |

If you could briefly outline the requirements and benefits of the Knight of the Watch prestige class that'd help, too, as it's a bit obscure. |

| Mommy was an Orc04-07-07, 06:02 PM | I don't like Knight in a Dwarf build - Knight 2/Fighter 1/Paladin 4 is a very natural route to Divine Crusader, but not when you'll take an XP penalty for it. You might want to check out Hospitaler and Beastmaster. Beastmaster will get you a mount that might survive an attack without penalizing you if it does die. And therefore, I'd probably go any of the following four routes: Fighter 2/Paladin 4/Beastmaster 1(turning for divine might) Fighter 4/Paladin 2/Beastmaster 1(melee weapon mastery at 9th) Knight 2/Fighter 2/Paladin 2/Beastmaster 1(mount, good charisma synergy, and no XP penalty - probably the most natural build) Fighter 2/Paladin 4/Hospitaler 1(free rideby attack) |

Depends on exactly what you want to do with him though, you may or may not need the extra feats from fighter. Alternately, you may want to try Knight2/Paladin2/Fighter2/Pious Templar1 to pick up mettle. Or Knight2/Paladin2/Fighter1/Pious Templar1/Hospitaler1...ok I'm just being silly now... |

Without at least looking at all the options, you may miss out on something. Although for this sort of a character, Ride-by-Attack is pretty much a wasted feat. And you still need 1st level Divine spells to qualify. |

Pious templar satisfies the divine casting at least, assuming 12 wisdom... |
