| Morgen06-28-07, 10:20 PM | Duskblades have medocure spells? That's news to me. I thought true strike, blade of blood and the ability to channel spells rather easily were nice, but the no arcane spell failure in most armor is even better. |
| control freak06-28-07, 10:28 PM | they dont get true strike to my knowlage (if they do then im stupid and yah they are alot better then i thought but i thought they only got the PHB 2 spells listed ) |

No defensive buffs, no real utility in the spells, and everything just goes towards damage. A Gish type, even with lower hitpoints, BAB, and spells/day would win versus a Duskblade, seeing as they can Fly if the need to, or Mirror Image, False Life, or any number of useful things other than 'hit it with more damage'. |

| Morgen06-28-07, 11:39 PM | Yes, they have quite a nice list of spells to select from. Buff spells are nice if your given the chance, and a lot of relatively cheap potions can supliment anything like that. |
| Genghis Cohen06-28-07, 11:48 PM | If I could play a Duskblade, it would be this: Half-Orc Str 18, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 8, Cha 6 1. Barbarian - Extra Rage 2. Fighter - Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword) 3. Fighter - True Believer, Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword) 4. Duskblade 5. Duskblade 6. Pious Templar of Mayaheine - Power Attack 7. Exotic Weapon Master - Uncanny Blow 8. Pious Templar 9. Pious Templar - Weapon Specialization (Bastard Sword), Melee Weapon Mastery (Slashing) 10. Pious Templar - Reckless Rage 11. Dragon Disciple 12. Dragon Disciple - Close Quarters Fighting 13. Dragon Disciple 14. Dragon Disciple 15. Barbarian - Mad Foam Rager |
| Dr.Cornelius06-29-07, 03:14 AM | Duskblade is designed as a 20 level class. At least 15 levels is required to get the most out of the class, and is is questionable if multiclassing is more optimal than straight Duskblade. A light fighter or battle cleric dipping 3 levels to get Swift Expeditious Retreat, True Strike and Channeled Shocking Grasp is good but not broken. Many key Duskblade spells are NONC access: Blade of Blood, Animalistic Power, Deflect, Seeking Ray, Dispelling Touch, Regroup, etc. It is a fallacy that Duskblades only have damage spells. In fact, Duskblades have a wide variety: Channeled Damage: Shocking Grasp, Vampiric Touch Channeled Debuff: Chill Touch, Ghoul Touch, Touch of Idiocy, Dispelling Touch Range Damage: Scorching Ray, Seeking Ray, Doom Scarabs, Disintigrate Range Debuff: Ray of Enfeeblement, Ray of Exhaustion, Enervation, Waves of Fatigue Buff / Protection: Resist Energy (changed to 1st level), Animalistic/Bull/Bear/Cat (CWI anyone?), Deflect, Energy Aegis, Pro. Energy, Fire Shield, Swift Invisibility Mobility: Swift Expeditious Retreat, Swift Fly, Dimension Hop, Spider Climb, Regroup, Dimension Door Utility: Obscuring Mist, Darkvision, See Invisibility, Dispel Magic The obvious hole is a lack of battlefield control spells. Other than that, Duskblade has a well rounded list. Compared to a Fighter 1/Wizard 6/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight X Gish, the Duskblade list is considerably less flexible, but the Duskblade is arguably stronger and more survivable at early to mid levels. The spellcasting differential really shows around 11th level when the Duskblade is still casting 3rd level spells but the Gish has 5th. Bottom Line: Duskblade is certainly stronger than a straight Fighter, but in the ballpark of optimized melee builds and likely weaker than a Gish at high levels. |
| Hariman06-29-07, 08:08 PM | The discussion on the power level of the Duskblade has been done to death. From what I could tell, the general consensus was duskblade is stronger than most "pure" melee builds. (Fighter/Barbarian etc) but weaker than a proper Gish build. (Eldritch Knight, Spellsword, Unseen Seer TWFer, etc.) The weakness against the gish builds comes from the 5th level cap on duskblade spells, which reduces DCs and makes most spells subject to Globes of invulnerability. I have a special mission pending for Duskblade for my 1st level human swashbuckler, who already has INT 14 and High Dex, will be: Well, I'm not sure yet. I need to find a synergy between a TWFing Improved Shield Bashing, Weapon Finessing Swashbuckler and Duskblade. I've considered using retraining to get a courtblade or maybe a thinblade and power attack, or maybe a spiked chain or whip (Or a finessable/power attackable weapon.) Just so I COULD occasionally Power Attack for full, True Strike AND Channel a touch spell. Currently, the character wields a light weapon and a spiked shield and TWFs. He'll be staying in light armor. And I'm probably going to adjust his feats/weapons. I just know that If I go with Shield Specialization, Shield Ward, EWP: Lynxpaw or Elven Thinblade, Power Attack and wear a mithral chain shirt. (Or better yet, elven chain.) I'll be able to do a decent amount of damage and I'll have a pretty good touch AC for a melee type. BUT, that requires succeeding on the Special Mission and then Living to see higher levels. So we'll see. |
| KShaver06-30-07, 07:45 AM | I'd use a couple levels of it to get into Arcane Archer earlier than normally possible. It is after all the only core class with full casting and full BAB, that alone breaks entry requirements on a few PrCs. |

I'm actually interested in finding a PRC to cheese out the dead levels of Duskblade by filling them with a full casting prestige class. |
