| Gaelforcwynd02-09-07, 09:32 AM | I just want to say that you people have far too much access to all the satellite books of the D&D core rules game. There are so many people here that know every possible class, skill and feat. I just wonder how you gained access to all this information. Did you buy all those books? Download them as .pdf files and print them all off? Or are you all part of some coven that owns a complete communal library of every 3rd edition D&D publications to date? I only own 4 books. The PHB, DMG, MM and SpC. All those suppliments are so expensive, how can you justify spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on them all!? |
| UMiskatonic02-09-07, 09:55 AM | Umm, I borrow them from friends from time to time... I do try to respect copyright, since I make my living off of my own intellectual property. I've bought quite a few, but there are a lot I don't have as well. And, geek that I am, there's a lot of stuff that I no longer need to look up. We all know that fighters get feats at 1,2,4,6,8,... After a while, you'll know more, especially if you judge a lot, and have to read through the appendices in the back of the mod every time. |
| LachlarlanIII02-09-07, 10:14 AM | I own most of the LG legal sourcebooks. Most of the Eberron sourcebooks. And quite a few Realms sourcebooks (stopped buying those when LC died though.) Most of my income is disposable right now, so I can buy what I want when I want it. |
| bhale18702-09-07, 10:31 AM | I have all of my books listed in my signature. I got all of them at 33% off and purchased them almost all at once just after our union settled a 4 year old contact and we got a substantinal backpay check that I had not planned on getting. |
| Mommy was an Orc02-09-07, 10:45 AM | There's people who can afford to fly to conventions - when you can do that, you expect to spend at least $500 to fly, hotel, eat bad food, convention fee, etc... At that point, spending $20-30 on a book isn't that bad of an expense. One of the aspects of LG I really like though is unless I have good access to a feat/magic item/etc..., I don't need a huge number of books. I bought PHBII/Complete Mage/Scoundrel when the LGCS came out. I probably didn't really need either Complete Mage/Scoundrel though, but people often ask me for help and they're common enough that I should know what I'm talking about. Tome of Battle? Big book of Swords? Modules except for ADPs? Dragon Magazine? Dungeon Magazine? Faerun books? Books not in LG? Nope. |
| Herrbard02-10-07, 04:11 PM | I have all of the Eberron books, all of the legal LG books, but no FR books (just don't get into the setting). This is my one hobby. I don't drink, smoke, play golf, or spend my money on anything else. My wife thinks it's the cheapest hobby I've ever had! |
| Sieylianna02-10-07, 09:28 PM | All those suppliments are so expensive, how can you justify spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on them all!? Actually, the books aren't that expensive. Once you start collecting the D&D miniatures, the cost of books looks cheap. Ed |
| Morgen02-10-07, 10:29 PM | The books are pretty easy to collect when your main hobby is D&D. No DVDs to buy, games to rent, consoles, etc. |
