Straightforward tank/basher that can use Knight's Challenge to keep an enemy's focus, cork doorways, and deal moderate damage back. Decent saves against magical attacks. |
| Cynric02-06-07, 11:13 PM | Looks fine to me. Assuming that the LGCS when it arrives in the next day or so, allows the Knight class. |
| DerekSTheRed02-12-07, 08:15 PM | Why not go another level of Hexblade so you can get mettle? It's not like fighter 7 gets you anything. Derek |

For anyone that wants to play this build that isn't interested in the HLC, feel free to replace that level. |
| magebeast02-12-07, 10:08 PM | I know this reduces your damage a bit, but if I were you I'd go for EWP Spiked Chain. Why? Because at level 3 you've got a nice bunch of squares around you that are now permanently rough terrain for enemies, because with combat reflexes you're always threatening. I realize, however, that you are probably intending to use a Bastard Sword in one hand for tanking purposes. |
| RedKnightofKet02-12-07, 10:10 PM | Don't you get a rebuild for the HLC anyway? Might as well make something most effective for LG, then change it at 16th. |

One handed with the reach of a Whip and, as far as I can tell, does damage as normal as it doesn't have the subdual only tag. May not be the most "knightly" of weapons, but it does have 5' more reach than the Spiked Chain. Don't you get a rebuild for the HLC anyway? Might as well make something most effective for LG, then change it at 16th. If that's the case, I wasn't aware of it. |

One handed with the reach of a Whip and, as far as I can tell, does damage as normal as it doesn't have the subdual only tag. The description of the weapon doesn't state that it has reach, so I'd be suspicious of that. Plus, if it works "as a whip" you don't threaten anyway, so it'd be useless for those purposes. |

Whips have reach. But you may be right. Something that could probably use clarification. |
| jstorrie02-13-07, 10:49 AM | Scourge doesn't deal damage to creatures with an armor bonus above a certain amount - so it's better than a whip, but not by a lot. Whips sort of don't have reach. Technically speaking they work like a ranged weapon, not a reach weapon. |
| zoinks6902-14-07, 01:48 AM | I also like the Spiked Chain Knight (well "like" is the wrong word. I have nightmares of seeing them at interactives). Tote around a Strength domain cleric or wizard with the Enlarge Person spell and you quite literally own the battlefield. Toss in a Large spiked chain and Monkey Grip (if you can get away with it) and those small battlemats start getting limiting. Only thing better is Mage Slayer on top of it all :D |
| Sithobi102-14-07, 10:07 AM | Weapons with Reach larger than your size don't grant you extra reach per the FAQ(it may or may not be RAW, but LG uses the FAQ as if it overrides RAW). |
