Kobold Dragon Disciple? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-27-07, 10:58 AM Can a kobold be a dragon disciple? Races of the dragon says this under kobold race:

"Huminoid (dragonblood, reptilian): for all effects related to race, a kobold is considered a dragon."

But under dragonblood subtype it says this:

"The dragonblood subtype does not confer the dragon type or any traits associated with the type."

And finally in the DMG und Dragon Disciple in the prereqs is says this:

"Any non-dragon (cannot already be a half-dragon)"

07-27-07, 12:17 PM Yes, a kobold (that does not have the Dragonwrought feat) can be a Dragon Disciple. The Dragonblood subtype is not the same as the Dragon type, and states that it confers neither the Dragon type nor any of the Dragon type's traits, and should the Dragon type be acquired (say through 10th level DD) the Dragonblood subtype is lost.

Kobolds are Humanoids with just enough of a hint of dragon in them to fool magics (items, spells, etc)- like a constant UMD skill check. ;)

07-27-07, 01:21 PM Think of it like orc-blood or similar abilities, where you can use abilities and items that require you to be an orc. That said, we are likely restricting what types of draconic heritages, feats, and PrCs you can take with a kobold down to the metallic and mist varieties; so don't plan too much on a chromatic dragon disciple.

When I read it, it seemed that it was implied that kobolds could not be dragon disciples because of this. Of course, it depends upon how the admin. defines what is an "effect."

I'm not saying you're wrong -- just that some judges may question it, and having an official ruling can eliminate the problem.
