Hey everyone. Kobold cards abound and being the arcane lover that I am, a kobold sorcerer is almost too fun to pass up.

Tragzt, LG Kobold Sorcerer
Str: 6
Dex: 14
Con: 12
Int: 14
Wis: 10
Cha: 15

Draconic Rite: Mage Armor
1. Dragonwrought Dragonblood Sorcerer: Draconic Heritage (Silver)
3. Dragon Wings
4. Dragonblood Sorcerer +1 Cha
6. Draconic Breath
8. Dragonblood Sorcerer +1 Cha
9. Draconic Resistance
12. Imp Dragon Wings
15. Draconic Legacy

RotD says that Kobold sorcerers focus on 4 types of magic ( you can read it for yourself) and so he will be going the Utility route (with the Draconic breath as the main offensive damage).

As you can see, it's not THAT min/max of a build, more for flavor. The silver heritage is for the skill Disguise (for obv reasons) and he'll put a lot of ranks in that and Bluff.

I recommend taking a metamagic feat or two in there. Also, you'll have to find some other offense for this character until 6th level.

You COULD have Draconic Breath at level 1 if you skip Dragonwrought and Dragon Wings.

Actually you can't. You pick feats at step 7 of level advancement, and you don't obtain class features until step 9. Draconic Heritage (a class feature of the Dragonblood Sorc. 1st level is a prereq for the feat.

Ahh nevermind. Draconic Heritage the feat only gives you dragonblood subtype I see, which you have anyway.

Edit again - gasp I was correct the first time. You need to have the dragonblood subtype as a prereq for Dragonblood Sorc. anyway, and then at 1st level you get Draconic Heritage, which also includes picking your particular dragon type.

So... You don't actually get Draconic Heritage until step 9. You have to pick Draconic Breath at step 7, and you don't have the prereq.

It's actually been established that that order is not a rule, but just a guide ot make understanding the leveling process easier. It's why there are so many 1st level barbarians with extra rage as their 1st level feat.

I would like to see where you found that ruling. It isn't on the list of Circle rulings kept on the Pale website, for example.

Last year's LGCS stated at one location (actually two but I will only quote one) "When you gain a level you must follow the chart under level advancement on pages 58-59 in the PH in the exact order it shows before you play that character again."

This year's was abridged, but still states that "When adding a level to your PC, you must follow the level advancement chart (PH 58-59)."

I could do metamagic, but the whole point of being a Kobold was to have the flavor of a kobold. which means taking dragonwrought, and i'm not going to waste free draconic heritage by not taking any of the draconic feats. the most popular use of metamagic is to up damaging spells, but if one doesn't take any damaging spells, then those feats are pretty useless. at 7th level i'll gain fly as a spell when i take dragonblood sorcerer for the last time, so maybe i'll see about swapping out dragon wings for some metamagic. but there will be plenty of kobold sorcerers who take a bunch of metamagic feats, and i want my kobold sorcerer to be somewhat unique.

Exactly, they changed it because you DON'T have to follow the order exactly, you just have to do everything on the list.

It is on page 87 of phb - "A character can gain a feat at the same level at which he or she gains the prerequisite."

BUT, it's been ruled in LG that you can't use retraining to qualify for a class, because you have to choose a class before you retrain any feats/ranks.

That's specifically retraining and really just a clarification of the rules in PHB2. That's different from the normal leveling process and it is just for feats.

I know. I only meant that as a "retraining isn't the same as leveling up" warning.

Exactly, they changed it because you DON'T have to follow the order exactly, you just have to do everything on the list.

Britt at one point stated the changes were to simplify the LGCS and they removed extraneous explanatory stuff that was obvious to reduce the size of the document. Hence it may also have been removed because it did not need to be spelt out.

Aside from which there is a whole series of clarifications about retraining that have come out post LGCS that assume you DO follow the level up order from the PHB.

Although that order restriction doesnt really effect the build here ... I would be extemely wary of a devoting any time and effort into a build that assumes the levelling order restrictions do not apply.
