| _metz_01-09-08, 08:41 PM | I am having a special written right now to give my 11 Rogue/1 Dread Pirate/2 Scarlett Corsair Legendary captain access. A mate of mine is playing a bard in the mission. The bard is a STRAIGHT level 12 bard. What do people think is some good access (spells, feats/PrCs) that she could ask for? The Player is unsure, but is dead keen on progressing bardic music and spellcasting. The character is a hell of a lot of fun and wouldn't miss this boat trip for the world - but whilst a VERY useful PC is by no means optimised. What say the boards? |
| MwaO01-09-08, 09:39 PM | I think I'd stay with pure Bard. Avoid PrCs as they generally don't pay off in that time span(the ones that do generally require that you enter by 7th or 11th, not 13th) - I really don't think there's anything wrong with a well-constructed pure Bard build - have harmonize and some useful swift action spells so you can essentially take 2 standard actions and a swift action every single round. Ruin Delver's Fortune from Spell Compendium is pretty nice. |

I would say, for reasons of pure flavor for the SM, crack open Stormwrack. Sunken Song can be useful, if situational (let's compare the feat to the cost of a Pearl of the Sirines for a moment), and I can see both Rapture of the Deep and Siren's Call being good spell choices. |
| magebeast01-10-08, 10:44 AM | Bard Spells that I think are neat, irregardless of power: 2nd level Disquietude Miser's Envy Sonorous Hum (if you've got something to concentrate on)\ 3rd level Puppeteer Fugue (if you have a tweaked out perform check) Ruin Delver's Fortune 4th level Body Harmonic (if you have good DCs) 6th level Dirge |
| TWG_Prometheus01-10-08, 03:00 PM | I am having a special written right now.... I had a special mission that was slotted to be written that got nixed due to the announcement of the end of the campaign. I thought they weren't even available anymore. *Beats head on desk* |

I thought they weren't even available anymore. *Beats head on desk* Just ask who was writing it for you to do it again - best to keep asking. I just asked a local mod writer who enjoyed beating up my ship. Also its for legendary captain, so its not like I am asking for ultimate magus or anything ;) Its more for flavour. I should actually take Scarlett Corsair for another BaB and free feint, but my Pirate wants to be: Legendary Dread Scarlett Corsair Pirate Captain Sarian Mattiaun! (He is also a Knight of Ratik and Lord of Perrenland but that would make the title too big if I added them too...) |
| jstorrie01-10-08, 10:21 PM | Snowflake Wardance! |
| _metz_01-10-08, 11:28 PM | She is a straight Bard, Snowflake Wardance isn't so helpful. If she is trying to attack things it measn that we are in a lot of trouble... |
| UMiskatonic01-13-08, 10:54 AM | I'd want to know more about the bard. Bards can make good archers, If they start on archery feats early. They can also make good enchanters, since they get the enchantment spells early. They can select feats and spells that increase the effectiveness of other party members too BUT all of these strategies are things that a bard should commit to early on. The key is knowing what kind of bard you have, and playing appropriately. |
| frupton01-15-08, 03:06 AM | metz, from your earlier comment, it sounds like this bard is an enchanter type, and not much of a combatant or even an archer. If it were me, I'd request Ruin Delver's Fortune. |
| _metz_01-15-08, 07:12 PM | It is an iconic Persuasive buffer bard. Doesn't shoot Doesn't Hit things. Sings. A lot. Also handles all the face the things needed. As the Player says, If Lillian needs to attack, we should all be running. Ruin Delvers sounds like a good choice. |
