You have power attack and weapon finesse. You're light infantry and took mounted combat. Ed |
| Mommy was an Orc05-09-07, 09:56 PM | I'd probably replace Thief Acrobat with the feat Combat Acrobat from PHB II - if you can't be made prone, you don't need to kip up. I think you also want to speed up the process for some of the specials - I don't think Pious Templar and CoC go well together. CoC is very feat intensive. I'm also now a lot more fond of Scout/Ranger with Swift Hunter than Rogue/Swashbuckler. The Rogue area of the Compilation really does need to be updated with actual builds. |
| Tahldrehlian05-09-07, 09:57 PM | Mounted Combat is a required feat for Champion of Corellan. Weapon Finesse is a bonus feat from Swashbuckler. The character will get Int, Str and Dex to damage and 2d6 sneak attack against things that can be crit. Power attack for those things that cant be. |

Consider taking EWP(Courtblade) instead of WpnFoc(longsword), then you can Power Attack and use Weapon Finesse. Something like a 14 str, 14 int, and as much Dex as you can afford, depending on which variant of elf you go with. You should be able to pop 1d10+9/18-20 damage at 12th level, w/o power attack. David or EWP thinblade if you want something that can be used single handed .. taking the weapon familiarity feat that gives you all elven weapons would be nice but I suspect you will get table variation with a more pedantic anti-elf GM claiming it doesnt qualify you for CoC, best not to risk it. BTW keen elven weapons go nicely with telling blow if you have rogue levels. |
| bitznarf05-09-07, 11:20 PM | He still needs Weapon Focus in a slashing weapon for Dervish. |
| Southernskies05-09-07, 11:26 PM | Forget about the swashbuckler if you're not going to use Weapon Finesse. The Int to damage is good, but only works against crittable creatures (and as you're not a spellcaster, that's only +1 to +3 damage). Even TWF can be a bad choice for light infantry. Not having the shield kills your AC too much unless you plan to full-attack with a THW. If you're not set on CoCL (I don't have the book), then light infantry needs to be flexible enough to fill holes in the party or be mobile to generate flanks. Elf with Wis of 12 (10 with Ioun Stone) Equipment: Chain Shirt, Heavy Shield, Longsword, Composite Longbow; as many AC buffs as possible. 1 Rgr1 - Improved Initiative, (Track) 2 Rgr2 (Rapid shot) 3 Ftr1 - Combat Expertise, WF: Longsword 4 Ftr2 - Power Attack xx Retrain 4 ranks from Ranger to Balance or Tumble 5 Rog1 6 Rog2 - Combat Acrobat, (evasion) xx Retrain either Combat Expertise or Power Attack for True Believer 7 Pious Templar1 (Mettle) 8 Pious Templar2 9 Pious Templar3 (Weapon Spec: Longsword), Melee Weapon Mastery: Slashing 10 Pious Templar4 - (DR 1/-), re-acquire Combat Expertise or Power Attack Path 1: 11 Scarlet Corsair1 - (Improved Feint) 12 Scarlet Corsair2 - Intimidating Strike 13 Scarlet Corsair3 - (Corsairs feint) 14 Nightsong Enforcer1 15 Occult Slayer1 - Slashing Flurry Path2: 11 Rgr3 (Endurance) 12 Horizon Walker1 - ?? 13 Horizon Walker2 14 Horizon Walker3 15 Horizon Walker4 - ?? The first path gives you 2 attacks at L15 after tumbling into place and making a free feint. The second gives a stack of circumstantial bonuses to stuff. |

I'm looking at a snow elf CoC, and am considering taking improved weapon familiarity early, and then retraining it for EWP (courtblade) at the level prior to entering the PrC. I've been tending toward a Wiz/Swash/Ftr build, but it does delay entry to the PrC a level or more, depending on how much Wiz. It's a build that's hurting for a dump stat, unfortunately. The wiz levels will help with Will saves, anyway. David |
| Jesse Heinig05-10-07, 01:15 AM | If he can get access, Companion Guard Style (from Dragon #315) allows him to use Dex for attack on the longsword without using the Weapon Finesse feat. This then segues nicely into Dervish and using the longsword for weapon focus/spec. without the problems of picking up the elf thinblade, which is a piercing weapon. |

BTW keen elven weapons go nicely with telling blow if you have rogue levels. Another take on this (having tried to work out my PC last night) is to take Imp Wpn Fam, and a one level dip in Cleric of Corellon, war domain for the Wpn Foc (longsword), maybe with Celerity or Magic as the other domain. This props up the Will save, gives cleric wands (and wizard wands if Magic domain), heavy armor (likely dup'd by fighter, but maybe useful in some builds), grave strike, familiarity with the elven swords and focus in both longsword and thinblade. I'm toying with: Clr1/Ftr1/Swash1/Rgr3/Wild2/CoC2/???? likely as wood elf rather than snow elf after all. :( Primal Scream and Elegant Strike look like they have good synergy. TV on Primal Scream with Dervish's dance will likely keep me out of Dervish, but maybe there is some useful flexibility there. David |
