| LGMoses07-15-07, 12:18 AM | neone got ne info or ideas on making legend of zelda themed characters? Links probably a ranger. Rusl is a fighter. etc. nebody? |
| ShinAkuma207-15-07, 12:34 AM | I don't think there's any reason for Link to be a Ranger. He doesn't have any extraordinary ability to Track, or to calm animals. He doesn't have an animal companion, not counting Epona, which is a mundane horse anyway. He has no divine spellcasting abilities. Pretty much every magical thing he does comes from items he finds/recieves. He doesn't fight with two weapons, and his archery abilities aren't anything special. Link should be a particularly well-stocked Fighter. |
| Hariman07-15-07, 03:59 AM | Elf seems to make sense, as Link has those pointy ears and natural ability with swords and bows. Fighter, or at least a fighter dip, would let him get the extra feats to approximate some of the combat maneuvers he uses in the Legend of Zelda games. He's definitely a Sword and Board build. Preferably with Improved Shield Bash, Power Attack (he does manage to hit those big enemies pretty hard) and Whirlwind Attack. (Spinning Blow/Great Spin anyone?) Other than that, how to build him is your choice. Heck, all I've got here is advice anyway, so you could completely ignore it. |
| _metz_07-15-07, 06:23 AM | neone got ne info or ideas on making legend of zelda themed characters? Links probably a ranger. Rusl is a fighter. etc. nebody? I assume we are looking at Link from an Ocarina of time perspective. (best Zelda game EVER.) So lets run through what Link has: 1. A good bow - very important to have 2. A Bastard sword (it definitely looks like a hand and a half the master sword is pretty big) 3. Light armour 4. Probably Dex based but with enough str to power attack, link is very nimble and quick 5. Link is a Hyrulean, everyone has pointy ears in the game. But Wood Elf would be a good approximation. 6. He Sword and Boards, but can use two handed weapons to great effect (The Hammer and the greatsword) 7. Has a warhorse, and enjoys some mounted combat feats. 8. Link is a representative of the Goddesses, but not too religious, so not very clerical. 9. Link has reasonable charisma, people love him! Also he has perform: Ocarina/other instruments 10. Link probably has Combat Expertise... (He can defend VERY well) 11. Link has whirlwind Attack. Link would be a possible character to make, but would require mostly fighter levels, with maybe 2 levels of Ranger. Link would make a good Seeker of the Misty Isle(Zelda?)/or a Champion of Correlon (Zelda?) Probably too versatile to *really* pull off though. Zelda would probably be a Cleric or Sorcerer |
| LGMoses07-16-07, 01:02 AM | I think zelda would be a cleric. The Master Sword is a long sword, not a bastard :D I've always considered the Hylians (Links race) to be a approximate to elves but you would have to come up with Hyrule's own version of the elven racial abilities(don't worship Correllon, no tendency to practice with the bow or sword). I always believed Link to be a multiclass ranger/fighter. He uses many of the rangers skills coupled with a fighters martial versatility. It is said Link was VERY proficient with a bow and the best shot in Hyrule. I'm just wishing they'd release the Hyrule Campaign Setting. and yes ocarina of time is the best zelda ever :) |

Lots of damage against the evil critters that Link fights! And I think Twilight Princess is the Best Zelda Ever. BUT, I never played ocarina of time. Link could be a DRUID! He'd get Epona and the druid versatility, not to mention Wildshaping into a wolf! All he'd need is a way to imitate the various combat maneuvers that he uses. |
| _metz_07-16-07, 01:24 AM | And I think Twilight Princess is the Best Zelda Ever. BUT, I never played ocarina of time. That is why you think Twilight Princess is the best. You missed out on the game that all the 'good' twilight princess stuff comes from. I suggest you get your hands on it. Its probably a bigger game than Twilight princess, with a much better plot, less weirdness, and frankly one of the best games ever made. Its the source of the music, mechanics, plot lines, and many other precedents in all the 3d Zelda games after it. Also the hero of time stuff, and the general feel to the game is amazing. There is a reason it was re released on game cube as a special edition, how often do Nintendo do that with games? Link is DEFINITELY not a druid. Epona is his horse, not animal companion. And Epona is just a normal horse, not a Paladin's mount either. Play Ocarina of time, and you will get the old, 'real' Legend of Zelda feel. The current games have lost some of their charm. twilight Princess looks stunning, but in terms of plots, and development, is really just a very poor sequel to the events of the Ocarina of Time. It disappointed me greatly. Wind waker was rubbish, and Majora's Mask was just Zelda on Drugs. |

It disappointed me greatly. Wind waker was rubbish, and Majora's Mask was just Zelda on Drugs. Speak not of Wind Waker! It is a mere zit on the face of the TRUE Zeldas, known as Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time! And I haven't played Majora's Mask. I hear it's weird. I was kidding about Link being a druid anyway. I tried playing through the re-released Ocarina of Time, but it didn't hold my interest. I'm sorry, but it just didn't. Twilight Princess was the only game I played for months (barring a few hours of Odin Sphere just before I finished Twilight Princess) and I was waiting with baited breath for the next plot point/gadget/boss battle/dungeon. The storytelling in Twilight Princess was also very good. And many of the moments were unforgettable. Especially Midna's actions and lines at the end of the game! (And the middle, and the beginning.) Still, it's a standout game. It's definitely a cut above the regular crowd of games! And if Twilight Princess DIDN'T have the "weirdness" you'd likely be complaining that it wasn't original enough. I happened to like the earlier sections of the game where you had to restore light to the world. Not to mention that NONE of the Dungeons and Bosses in Twilight Princess felt anything like the ones before. I happen to agree with the "Link = Fighter" statements. It's the ONLY way to get all of the feats needed to make a Link character as versatile as Link! |
| LGMoses07-16-07, 02:40 AM | And I haven't played Majora's Mask. I hear it's weird. Link + Acid = Majora's Mask The main attribute of the master sword is that it is suppossed to have some power over the magic of the triforce so that would have to be represented. Not to mention that it can deflect magical attacks like the mage slayer ability:P Metz is right. There are parts of Twilight that I like and I don't. I thought Rusl was a cool character, I loved the focus on facial expressions especially with Midna and Link. I was honestly hoping it would be a more in depth and just better title than it was. After you beat the water temple(god those are always such a pain) you get that cinema that shows Llia betraying you and an evil version of Link killing her and all this stuff. It honestly looked like it might be a dark and broody game with betrayal in it. But it forgets about halfway thru about the fused shadow thingy being some sort of locked away evil power in favor of using it to stop the main bad guy. The main bad guys silly look, the ooccoo things that live in the sky, and other stuff like that just came off too gimicky. Still, it is a good game and a must play for any zelda fan. I especially loved messing around in the lost woods and seeing the old forest temple. Its still a great game. Just would have liked a little more depth and seriousness to it. I was sad they made the Hyrule guards into pansies. I supposse all the brave ones were killed in the Imprisoning War. |
| Frumpkis07-16-07, 03:20 PM | Since there seems to be a "correct spelling" campaign going on in the forums lately, I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon..... neone got ne info or ideas on making legend of zelda themed characters? Links probably a ranger. Rusl is a fighter. etc. nebody? "neone", "ne", and "nebody" are not words in the English language. If you mean to say "anyone", "any", or "anybody", then use the actual words instead. I mean really, "any" is only one more letter to type out, so it's not like you're saving yourself that much more effort by using your made-up shorter spelling. |
| delewobmesid07-16-07, 06:11 PM | Link really believes in what he's doing; and midway his sword 'upgrades' in stages; he tumbles around enemies with ease; so I cam up with Ranger/Fi/Pious Templar/Dervish... If I was to build Link I would do the following Wood Elf 'Link' 16,16,14,12,8,8 1 Ranger Dodge 2 Fighter WF Longsword 3 Ranger True Beliver (no idea what diety, but FW Longsword) 4 Fighter Int bump Combat Expertise 5 Ranger (endurance, Link just keeps running...) 6 Pious Templar Mobility 7? Dervish (can't remember the bab requriements) take dervish until spring attack/whirlwind are setup, then back to pious templar |
| LachlarlanIII07-16-07, 06:21 PM | Just remember, if you play a Link inspired character, you must never ever speak! You must be able to get your point across using simple grunts, whistles, and other such noises. :D |
| ShinAkuma207-16-07, 07:40 PM | Just remember, if you play a Link inspired character, you must never ever speak! You must be able to get your point across using simple grunts, whistles, and other such noises. :D Hm...See if you can get access to a Pixie cohort...I've seen it before, maybe it can happen again. And make sure her every sentence begins with "Hey!" or "Listen!" |
| control freak07-16-07, 07:59 PM | and she must be named navi and have blue skin  but seriously you need a feat that gives you a sword with reach (how else do you WW attack so far away in orcana of time?!) and you should be small but i dont know of any small elves =( |

| SYB07-17-07, 01:45 PM | and yes ocarina of time is the best zelda ever :) You are clearly all insane. Link to the Past is the best Zelda ever. Every good Zelda idea ever originated in that game and even with 16 bit graphics, it still blows away all of its sequels. -SYB |
| ShinAkuma207-17-07, 03:12 PM | but seriously you need a feat that gives you a sword with reach (how else do you WW attack so far away in orcana of time?!) The spin attack is magical, so I don't think a reaching feat is necessary. You need some sort of magical enhancement...though I'm not sure of where you'd get it. and you should be small but i dont know of any small elves =( I know one, and she's a darn good cleric. But Link's only small when he's young, and he's not an elf anyway. |
| LachlarlanIII07-17-07, 03:35 PM | Link always struck me as a half-elf. He's, IIRC, Hylian, and Hylians are humans with pointed ears. |
| jimmy_dowdall07-17-07, 03:40 PM | yep no bonus feat or extra skill points |
| boogahwoof07-17-07, 08:24 PM | can i be a octarock? |
| Evanta07-17-07, 09:20 PM | I would think he has at least 2 levels of ranger. He has a spiked shield for bashing after all.. IIRC :D Wood-elf Ranger 2 / Fighter X? STR 18 (17) DEX 16 CON 13 (12) INT 10 (12) WIS 8 CHA 8 (12) (stats in brackets are more RP-like as opposed to powergaming) Weapons: Sword + Spiked Shield Feats: Power Attack, Improved Shield Bash, Two Weapon Fighting. |

Though Link to the past established what we know as Zelda, and is a fantastic game, it's like chalk and cheese, it can't really be compared to a successful 3d version. Loved that game though, oh, and Link's Awakening was sweet too! |
| ShinAkuma207-17-07, 11:26 PM | I would think he has at least 2 levels of ranger. He has a spiked shield for bashing after all.. IIRC :D His shield has never been spiked, and I'm not sure why he'd need to be a Ranger to Shield Bash. I'm telling you, he's a Fighter all the way, perhaps with some PrC we've never seen before. |

| LachlarlanIII07-18-07, 09:38 AM | in a throwback to FR maybe he's a "chosen" of Farora, the Goddess of Courage? The triforce he has melded with his hand would probably support this. |
| LGMoses07-18-07, 12:09 PM | ok, i have to agree with SYB up there Link to the Past is close on with OoT if not better. Both are excellent games. As I've always seen the races: Hyrule was initially inhabited by the Hylians which built the ancient culture and structures that Link spends a lot of time in(the dungeons). The Hylian race was old and soon came in the Hyruleans. The Hyruleans were basically humans, industrious, adaptable and hardworking. Eventually the two societies merged until there were few or no pure blooded Hylians left. Hylians can be seen as akin to elves. Most people in Hyrule are a mix of Hylian/Hyrulean on some degree. Now i believe that in OoT, the first Zelda game in the series, Link was a pure Hylian. Hence his blonde hair and blue eyes which are racial traits of Hylians. The ruling family of Hyrule is Hylian(Zelda). Now, I do believe that at some point the Hero of Time procreates with a non pure Hylian to get his descendants which are future Heroes of Time. This can be seen with "Link" having brown hair in future titles such as Link to the Past. Thats what I always formulated on it anyway. |
| LachlarlanIII07-18-07, 12:38 PM | Now i believe that in OoT, the first Zelda game in the series, Link was a pure Hylian. Are you speaking from a time-line standpoint? |
| ShinAkuma207-18-07, 01:43 PM | Are you speaking from a time-line standpoint? Doesn't matter, it's incorrect either way. At the very least, the Minish Cap comes before that, as it recounts the tale of the first "Link", as well as showing how the floppy green cap became symbolic to the legendary hero along with the tunic. Also, Link is not yet referred to as "The Hero of Time" in Minish Cap, since that hasn't happened yet. |
| LGMoses07-18-07, 03:56 PM | ofcourse from a timeline standpoint. and i haven't played minish cap. I played.. like oracle of seasons and links awakening and thats all the handhelds. neither was very good. |
| ShinAkuma207-18-07, 06:35 PM | You didn't like Link's Awakening? That's one of my favorites. Did you play through the whole thing? What didn't you like? :detect: |
| LGMoses07-18-07, 10:06 PM | it was ok, it just didn't stand out in my mind that much. Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are the main ones. Then theres the original because of the awesome opening. Then you got the adventure of Link which i never got very far in but it seemed to give the game this wide open feel like the world was very big which i liked. I always wished they'd add a more dnd element to the zelda games. Couldn't you just imagine a party in one of the games? |
| _metz_07-18-07, 10:56 PM | You didn't like Link's Awakening? That's one of my favorites. Did you play through the whole thing? What didn't you like? :detect: Links Awakening was A Zelda classic, and set up a lot of the stuff for the alter games, as well as having a lot of synergy with other Zelda Titles. Please note the bosses and the recurrence in other Zelda games. (including twilight princess) Links awakening was a truly excellent game, with progressive plot, and fantastic dungeons. ON a side note, OoT is where Link steps up from being just an adventurer to the Hero of Time. its a massive point in the time line. Its also the time Ganondorf comes to power. From a Canon perspective it is extremely important. The minnish cap was just elements from other zelda games mixed in, and whilst good, wasn't really that IMPORTANT to the series. Links awakening falls into the realms of majora's mask and was a side quest game, but with awesome allusions to the rest of link's world, as it was his, and the wind fish's creation. |
| ShinAkuma207-18-07, 11:22 PM | The minnish cap was just elements from other zelda games mixed in, and whilst good, wasn't really that IMPORTANT to the series. Hey, if not for Ezlo, Link wouldn't have his famous green cap. That's important. :shifty: Yeah, I agree, Minnish Cap was ok. I've played LttP and LA a billion times...I can't see myself wanting to play Cap again any time soon. |

I always wished they'd add a more dnd element to the zelda games. Couldn't you just imagine a party in one of the games? That would be a radical departure from the normal tone and structure of the series. And I would love to see a Legend of Zelda RPG or action RPG. Something in the vein of Odin Sphere (only top down instead of sidescrolling) would be fun. If they could pull it off. Expectations are always high for LoZ games. And whether turn based or real time, the developers would be hard pressed to live up to the expectations. Not to mention that Link would likely have to speak. (Heresy, Blasphemy!) |
| LGMoses07-19-07, 12:17 PM | yeah, but that doesn't make me not want it any less :D It wouldn't be too much of a departure anyways. I mean, Link defeats ganondorf by going to different temples(dungeons) to retrieve (twilight tears, awaken sages, etc) and on the way he collects some piece of magical treasure(bow, hammer, booomerang, light arrows, etc). He collects enuff power and magical items and THEN he can take on Ganondorf. It wouldn't be that big of a departure. Like i said, I'd mostly like a tabletop rpg for the Hyrule Campaign Setting. DO YOU HEAR ME WIZARDS!!!! TALK TO NINTENDO. HYRULE CAMPAIGN SETTING. IT WOULD ROCK!!!! YOU'D MAKE EVEN MORE MONEY! THINK ABOUT IT!!! Set it at different times during they game plot. it would be great. |

Set it at different times during they game plot. it would be great. Oh I agree with you there. The LoZ games already have an RPGish feel, there's no doubt about it. There are only three big problems that I can see as showstopping: 1: The Battle System. The battle system would have to be fun, and it would have to "feel" like playing a Zelda game. Real time would be cool, although the mario RPGs have proven that real time games can translate well into turn based. 2: Characters. Characters might be a problem. Who would want to play anyone other than Link? Do they make everyone create their own character? (Who eventually fights alongside Link.) Or does Link become the leader of a band of warriors? 3: Link would have to speak. Otherwise we'd end up with a feeling like Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. The hero is there, and goes through the events, but everyone is only talking at him. He's merely a silent witness, even if he does make choices. And two side problems: 4: Equipment. Will armor make a character look different? What weapons will Link be able to find? Will weapons will be upgradeable or will you just have to find new weapons? What sort of shields will you be able to find? Can you actually give the other characters certain weapons without having those weapons overlap with Link's weapons? 5: Annoying characters: Will Nintendo do us the favor of leaving out characters like Navi, Tingle, and Twilight Princess' Postman? Will they have the kindness to leave them out of the party? |
| ShinAkuma207-19-07, 04:10 PM | 2: Characters. Characters might be a problem. Who would want to play anyone other than Link? Do they make everyone create their own character? Hey, by your own admission, you're familiar with the Mario RPGs. They have plenty of original characters that are loved by the fans. Many people were hoping for a Geno appearance in SSBM, and now SSBB. There's enough Vivian fan art to choke a walrus. In these games, Mario is silent, except for the occasional grunt or "Oh yeah" in the Paper Mario series. I think a LoZ turn-based RPG could happen. |
| LGMoses07-20-07, 01:19 AM | Answers: 1. u already said for rpgs that mario is a prime example. I'm more thinking of a LoZ roleplaying game for table top though... 2. for characters, design your own! We have lots of good artwork from all over the place for examples of style and culture in Hyrule. From the Link to the Past players guide to Nintendo Power comics and the games themselves we see how people dress, think act, little fun nuggets of info about the hylian/hyrulian society etc. Make your own character for the table top game. If an for an rpg for nintendo then just use text, simple as that. best part will be no bad voice acting. 3. once again. atleast everything in the rpg atleast from the character's mouths could be in text with maybe some voice acting from the characters though i think text is still the best bet. As for the table top, your not playing as link maybe you could meet Link as he will be a powerful NPC. Sort of the Elminster of the series except thankfully absent. If you'll notice, Link has a way of leaving Hyrule after defeating Ganon once to train or something. (Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, etc). 4. We see lots of styles in the game of how armor and equipment looks on character models. Everyone will want a hylian shield :D You could use basic dnd equipment. It would NOT be out of place in Hyrule. 5. Shut ur mouth, Navi was great. If you unlocked a fairy to follow you around in LG and point out helpful stuff you wouldn't complain about it. |
| bitznarf07-20-07, 05:03 PM | 5. Shut ur mouth, Navi was great. If you unlocked a fairy to follow you around in LG and point out helpful stuff you wouldn't complain about it. Chill, its just a game. |

| _metz_07-25-07, 09:32 AM | so what would gannon's stats be ? Its Ganondorf, not Ganon. He would be a very high level Spellsword/Eldritch Knight methinks. (Only losing one or two caster levels) He would have polymorph, Arcane Strike, etc. As for Stats, he would start off with the same stat buy as link ofc. But probably somewhere along the lines of: Str: 14 Dex: 10 Con: 14 Wis: 10 Int: 10 Cha: 16 Obviously a little tweaked. |
| LachlarlanIII07-25-07, 11:46 AM | Ganondorf is an Ogre Magi with class levels. |
| ShinAkuma207-25-07, 01:29 PM | Its Ganondorf, not Ganon. That depends on whether he's speaking of his humanoid form, or his monstrous pig form. He was never called Ganondorf until Ocarina (I think maybe LttP referenced his former life as Ganondorf, but that took place before the game itself). |

His full name is Ganondorf Dragmire BUT his ... nickname? (don't have the booklet with me rite now) was Mandrag Ganon which means something to the effect of dark prince of thieves. |
