| _m_01-09-07, 08:01 PM | just wondering what class everyone thinks is the most fun to rp / have pr'd well at your table. not asking for specific characters... thats what my 'Unique Characters' thread is for, just after what actual classes people think are fun. first one i thought of was Paladin of St Cuthbert then the loveable, chaotic good half orc barbarian, like thog from oots :D |
| Mommy was an Orc01-09-07, 08:12 PM | My current favorite is a Baklunish Monk 2/Sorc 1/Paladin of Al'Akbar. i.e. she's nearly the ideal Kettite. Her family is actually from there. Just one little hitch...she's a first generation immigrant to Keoland, a place which distrusts Baklunish, arcane casters, Paladins, and those with connections to Ket. Said in jest by someone, but you'll get the idea: "Ya hear that boys? We're gonna need three times as much firewood... not only is she a Ket spy an' onna those 'holy warrior' fanatics, but she's a WITCH too!" |
| _m_01-09-07, 08:23 PM | how about: chatoic neutral halfing zagyg cleric.... thatd be fair funny |
| RedKnightofKet01-09-07, 08:39 PM | How about a cleric of Gendwar Argrim....on a mission to SAVE a half-orc baby! Almost rp'ed myself out of the mod, there. Cleric of Pelor: Pelor will be grateful if you do this... Me: But MY god'll (mad*)!! Ultimately, I decided to go to "watch my companions' backs" Either way, if you play the fatalist/obsessive part right, it can be a GREAT rp... |
| kenobi6501-09-07, 09:20 PM | Have always wanted to play a cleric of Wenta. Anyone who uses ale as holy water has to be fun. |
| Morgen01-09-07, 09:29 PM | Hmmm, I don't think class should influence a whole lot in the way of. Characters are what you roleplay after all, short of some kind of restrictions like a paladin would have. Even then no two paladins should be identical normally. The sum of all their parts and all that! |
| JohnduBois01-09-07, 09:37 PM | how about: chatoic neutral halfing zagyg cleric.... thatd be fair funny I actually know a guy who's running a CN halfling cleric of zagyg... he's teching to Alienist/Mystic Theurge... he and I have many conversations about alien snow bees. My favorite characters to roleplay right now are my FS of Trithereon (This character informed the mayor of a town that his oppression of his people gave the FS just cause to Deific Vengeance him in the face... in front of a PC cleric of Heironeous...) and my warchanter of Trithereon (who has just moved from Furyondy to Veluna for some "I didn't mean to annoy your church - oh wait, yes I did" action). Once I get my centaur some Dread Pirate levels, I expect that roleplaying him will be entertaining as well... |

The sum of all their parts and all that! indeed. there are many unique and varied characters roleplayed well purely because of the player, but that, again, is what the 'Unique Characters' thread is about. if you want to talk about a specific character and it's whacky adventures and roleplaying goodness, put it there. this is just for seeing who can come up with the class that would probably inately have the most potential to be fun at rp'ing. and yeah, holy ale is pretty freakin funny. as would a centaur pirate be :D |
| RedKnightofKet01-09-07, 10:15 PM | So, odd racial combinations qualify? LIke, say, my Dwarven Warmage? Always gets me strange looks when I say "I'll play my blaster caster" and proceed to pull out my dwarf mini :D A friend of mine has considered making a dwarven FS/Sorc/Mystic Theurge.... indeed. there are many unique and varied characters roleplayed well purely because of the player, but that, again, is what the 'Unique Characters' thread is about. if you want to talk about a specific character and it's whacky adventures and roleplaying goodness, put it there. this is just for seeing who can come up with the class that would probably inately have the most potential to be fun at rp'ing. and yeah, holy ale is pretty freakin funny. as would a centaur pirate be :D |

Are you implying that there's something odd about having a dwarf has +10 to his CHA-based skills without ranks? |
| rockondon01-09-07, 10:54 PM | anything that's dwarven, ugly, and doesn't bathe |
| solbergb01-10-07, 12:41 AM | We get a fair number of requests to play our two dwarves or our two gnomes at tables with time to roleplay. The dwarves (Warchanter tank who is a "Face" for a dwarf, but it's all relative, and Stonelord low int/wis/cha dwarf who speaks in a high singsong voice and just says whatever comes into her head..) and the gnomes (gloomy "emo" favored soul with adversarial relationship with his deity and optomistic, overconfident, untruthful draconic sorcereress) seem to have an easy time generating roleplay just within the party, and it gets much crazier when NPC's are involved. It's not the class though. It's just the character. Both sets are relatively 'young' emotionally, have family ties with each other (different though) and have views of the world that only have a passing resemblance to reality. It's probably the last bit that makes it the most fun. I've also been fond, over the years, of playing a type of character that is something like this. It tends to work better in a home campaign than LG though, were your personality has to express itself very quickly, and can't build up over time. It make a good recurring villain henchman, or rarely a mastermind. He THINKS he's the best there is at something, and loses no opportunity to share this opinion, with the OOC goal of eventually causing everybody in the party wishing he'd fall flat on his face, while still keeping him around because he's too damn useful. Then he's *almost* as good as his self-advertisements. He forgets failures and remembers successes. Flattery always works on him. Think "Perfect Tommy" in Buckaroo Banzai, or the Sicilian in the Princess Bride, or Foxbat in the Champions (now Hero) RPG and related comics (which exposed his character a bit more) |
| Lomiat01-10-07, 12:58 AM | Best class to roleplay... Rhennee. Actually, it's been a challenge to design an Occult Slayer who still requires magical buffs (and lots of them!). That lead to the Contract, and the Contract leads to good times... |
| gomeztoo01-10-07, 03:24 AM | Zagyg clerics (of any race) are fun to play, but being a nutcase can be hard to keep up for an entire session. Dwarf fighters (or clerics) also strike me as fun, simply because they are easy to play, and you can give them either the sour "why am I babysitting these morons" attitude, or the merry "I'll look after 'ya sonny" outlook. Bards can be a blast, specifically if you give them a certain twist (like the bard that wa s abattle commander. He woudls hout annoying 'orders' and criticize his fellows in combat, whcih acted as insiprte courage - we fougth harder so the battle was over more quickly, so the bloody bard would shut up). And I am still thinking of either a paladin or a lawful good Cuthbertite (or Pholtan) cleric. There is a lot of room for order-obsessed PCs, from tyrants-waiting-to-happen to fatherly-leading-by-example types. |
| trollbill01-10-07, 12:58 PM | I don't think there is a class that specifically more fun to role-play. It all depends on the character concept. The character I was having the most fun role-playing in LG was my Sorcerer. He had Draconic Heritage feats, was unique and had a defined personality. I started another character as a backup, this time I created a Half-Orc Barbarian/Cleric of Kord because our group is consistantly short in the Tank and Cleric area, so I created something that could be either. It was just supposed to be a big dumb tank and I didn't expect much out of it role-play wise. But I started investing more into his background and personality, and now many of the local group like playing with him because of this. Now I can't decide which one I like to play more. |
| tvknight41501-10-07, 01:17 PM | I'll have to go for something dwarven and raging. Hehehehe *hiccup* hehehehehe |
| cycloptic_squirrel01-10-07, 02:50 PM | It's usually more of a function of the player rather than anything on the character sheet. If the player has a fun concept, it usually goes over pretty well. I find that Bards are on average more fun, but I think that's because bards are slightly more adaptable to wacky concepts and idiosyncrasies. |
| Some_call_me_Tim01-11-07, 10:39 AM | Have always wanted to play a cleric of Wenta. Anyone who uses ale as holy water has to be fun.I've got a ninth level Drunken Sot of Wenta. Have to tone down the RP when children are at the table. I've always described him as a cross between Friar Tuck and Norm from Cheers. Always proselytizing the wonders of Wenta in every Inn and Common Room he finds. Actually, even without the Goddess of Ale angle, its a lot of fun. I took the Air and Plant domains. Wait till the first time a judge springs a Treant ambush on you and you rebuke them or better yet command them. Hehe. (Other than the rest of the party wanted to cut him up for firewood anyway). I actually want to try a cleric of Farlanghan or a Fochlucan Lyrist. Any class can be a fun class if you start with a good solid idea for roleplay. I've seen chimney sweeping rogues, goth chick sorcerers, elves with questionable gender identity, sumo wrestling monks; it really isn't class it's concept that makes it fun. |

Chuckle...I've got two on that list. I just started a bard PC that's shooting for Fochluchan Lyrist, and I play a grey elf warmage who is very "pretty", but extremely androgynous, and hasn't ever felt the need to clarify his/her sex to anyone who's asked (inspired by Vaarsuvius from OotS). |

| CrystalBlue01-11-07, 02:35 PM | Fochlucan Lyrist's rock...one more level, and my Bard/Druid/Rogue will be there. Druid 3/Bard 4/Rogue 2/Arcane Hierophant 1. Dire foxes of celestial goodness rock...esspecially when they're your familiar too. *fox nibbles on my ear* |
| Cynric01-11-07, 10:08 PM | Actually, it's been a challenge to design an Occult Slayer who still requires magical buffs (and lots of them!). That lead to the Contract, and the Contract leads to good times... Or you can do it the way mine does. He does not have a problem with spellcasters, just druids. That is fun to RP in RHOD with someon going for Arcane Hierophant. He casts a spell, I make a spellcraft check and then he has to convince me it was a ranger spell. Talk about fun.:D |
| clannagh01-11-07, 11:29 PM | a level of gnome doesnt go astray comes with a negative ECL |
| ithardin01-15-07, 03:53 PM | I think the most enjoyable (in general) PCs to roleplay have been Dwarves. There is some kind of inhibition-lowerer that happens when one RPs a dwarf, let alone when you have an entire table of them. Personally, I think the PCs I have the most fun RPing are rogues. There is just something about starting with almost 50 skill points that gives you sooo many options. |
