| Alpha_Nerd10-14-06, 07:06 PM | I've got the idea for a dervish floating around, and it's really weird idea, but I think it's a pearl is my giant oyster of terrible character ideas. Scout 5/Fighter 2/Dervish 6/Exotic Weapon Master 1/Pious Templar 1 STR 16 DEX 14 CON 14 INT 14 WIS 8 CHA 8 1 Scout: Dodge, Combat Expertise 2 Scout 3 Scout:Improved Trip 4 Scout:Mobility 5 Scout 6 Fighter: Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Khopesh, Power Attack 7 Fighter: Weapon Focus: Khopesh 8 Dervish 9 Exotic Weapon Master: Uncanny Blow, Elusive Target 10 Dervish 11 Dervish 12 Dervish: True Believer 13 Pious Templar of Kelanen 14 Dervish 15 Dervish: Impproved Toughness The base saves of the character at 15th are 10/9/8, BAB is +13, Has Mettle and Evasion, Uncanny Dodge. Uses a Khopesh for tripping and is a Favored weapon of Kelanen, will recieve access to Khopesh through BK meta-org in 6 months, which is why I delayed the 2 feats until 6th and 7th. The character can trapfind, and with the 14 int and human the 4+int skills of dervish should be able to keep up. HD never drops below a d10 after level 5. AC should be decent with expertise, I miss elaporate parry at 7th dervish but I think I make up for it with uncanny blow and mettle. If you notice any flaws in the build or ways I could improve it please let me know. |

I don't think Pious Templar is a great pickup for this build with only one level in it. |

Though if you manage to hit the requirements for getting access to the Kopesh (or you get access through ARs) before 6th level, I'd plan on taking the second level of fighter right away and grabbing proficiency with it. That may just be personal preference, but I dislike switching what weapon my character focuses on any later than absolutely necessary. I also generally wouldn't take Power Attack and Combat Expertise, though I can certainly see where the added versatility would be useful. As MWaO says, I'm not sure that Pious Templar is the best addition to this build. As nice as Mettle is, coming at 13th level, it's not going to be able to help you for much of your career, and I'd be more inclined to put your 12th level feat into something that builds more on what you already do. (though I don't really have any suggestions on what that would be at the moment.) Still, if you feel that it's not going to cost you too much, go for it. All-in-all, I'd say it's a fairly solid build. I'd probably have gone for two-weapon fighting if I were making a Scout-Dervish build (get the bonus damage from Skirmish more often) but then, that wouldn't have as much ability to muscle through things that weren't going to take that extra damage anyway. |
| Alpha_Nerd10-15-06, 02:25 AM | Thanks for the help. I agree with you MwaO about the first seven levels and I'll definately re-do it. As far as the pious templar level goes, I really like it for not only Mettle but +2 Will and Fort, which before level 13 are my 2 low saves. |
| Iswald10-15-06, 03:24 AM | Kelanen's favored weapons are any martial sword. Although the Khopesh is an allowed weapon for clerics to use, as an exotic weapon, it doesn't qualify as one of Kelanen's favored weapons. |
| Alpha_Nerd10-15-06, 06:36 PM | Oh, well then. Do you think it's worth it to keep Khopesh so I can use uncanny blow to get 2x strength and just drop pious templar, or should I go with something like guisarme and keep use the extra feat for something else? |
| jstorrie10-15-06, 08:17 PM | Drop Pious Templar and khopesh, if you want the most power possible. Drop at least Pious Templar if you just want to be fairly good - it eats up a necessary feat and it'll be difficult to find a deity that favours a good tripping weapon. Guisarmes are generally better for dervish trippers than non-reach weapons. |
