Building on the earlier "Need Wizard Advice" thread... I have a rog1/wiz1 that is working on spellwarp sniper or arcane trickster, at early levels, like until level 5, what magic items would you recommend that I save to buy (remember I don't yet have access to a whole lot...) - thanks.

You're going to want to craft a Headband of Int and a BBB relativly early I think.

Those and Pearls of Power.

Get CWI and craft whatever you need if you can - your budget will nearly double if you can afford the TUs

pearls of power - useful for you, can be loaned to a cleric/druid in a pinch for lesser vigors
gloves of dex - AC, ranged touch attacks, initative bonus, all good
lesser rod of extend - good for mage armor, false life, the low level haste, breaks swift fly

headband of int - you might want to wait on it, depends on if it will get you bonus spells and if you cast a lot of stuff with saving throws
bocob's blessed book - I'd wait until later levels, just keep putting whatever you want into your mundane spellbook, you can always sell it after you get the bocob's

What kind of spells do you normally cast?

Evocation and necromancy are usually 'make a save' spells, so you'll want to be smarter. Get that headband pronto.

Evokers and some conjurers also might make a lot of ranged touch attacks, in which case the gloves of dex should come first.

Pearls of power are brilliant, and you can sell them for cost if you come across something really amazing on an AR.

If your STR is really bad, a Haversack is an important early purchase as well. Stack up on scrolls, alchemists' fire, cold weather gear, etc.

Finally, the unglamourous vest of resistance +1 is a bargain for 500 gold and 1 TU.

If you are spending a lot of time acting as a rogue, scribe scrolls like knock, unseen servant, invisibility, and make items like lenses of detection as soon as you can. The headband of intellect/gloves of dexterity help your skills as well, so that's another reason to get those soon.

Craft, don't buy. Just don't pick up the feat too early. Really depends on how good access is in your region. I'm still looking for POP1 access for my wizard and he's almost 9th level. Also consider how much cash you will have. Consider waiting until you have a few 1000 to throw around (wiz 5th or 6th is normally a decent level to pick up CWI).

I'd craft POP1 (at 3rd+), Vest of Resistance +1 (at 3rd+), BBB(at 5th+), and HHH (9th+) in that order. If you can manage to holdout on cash, a +6 headband of int can mean a lot of extra spell slots, otherwise +4 is decent.

I've never seen any kind of metamagic rod access in our region, but that doesn't mean it isn't in yours. I'm sure it is in the odd core mod, just none that I have ever played/ran.

You can always upgrade from a +2 headband to a +4 headband to a +6 headband with no extra cost overall.

Now that the CL requirement is gone there is no good reason not to pick up CWI at 3rd for the vast majority of Wizard characters.
