I Envision many of my spells to be 'weather' related: mists, lightning, air, clouds, etc. Not so much fire. So far, I'm thinking straight sorcerer. I'm completely new at this, so help in stats, feats and spells would be great...High charisma and int (for crafting skills). What else? Thanks! |

Figure out how many skill points you'll want, though: if you want less than 5 per level you can take some points away from Int. Note that crafting skills aren't very useful in LG, although you can certainly take them for flavor: they don't let you make items, just gain some money after adventures, and the gold / TU ratio is very low compared to adventuring. Try to figure out what spells you want to use before picking feats. As a rule, you want metamagic feats that work on a lot of your spells, allow you to free up spots in your spells-known list, and / or fill gaps in your character's capabilities. Once you've got your spell list (which I would get by writing down a list of weather-themed spells, and then picking the ones you think your PC will find useful), find feats that work well with it: then go back over your spell list and modify it as needed to fit your feat plan. Born of the Three Thunders (Complete Arcane) might be a nice feat for this sort of character. As far as prestige classes go, I don't know of an air-and-weather-themed sorc prestige class, although Stormcaster might be closest (Stormwrack, requires access). Sea Witch is what it sounds like (summoning sea creatures, creating whirlpools, etc), Frost Mage has various cold-based powers - none of these are Open however. Fatespinner is a very popular sorc prestige class just because it's easy to qualify for, but it doesn't have any particular links to the weather theme (unless you consider weather as a manifestation of chaos theory, I suppose ;) ) |

That'll take into account all three bumps, and give you +1 will save. |

Neither are game-breakingly awesome, but they are both serviceable. As far as gear, sorcerors get by with very little. You don't need to worry about armor, and a melee weapon won't do much good. You could buy a MW light crossbow if you wanted. I'd take a bird as a familiar. Crows precede storms, right? And finally, remember that energy substitution can do wonders. No reason that you have to be limited to the spells they give you. Strike like a 'thunderball' if you wish. |
| jeffnesh07-25-07, 09:19 AM | Excellent thoughts, all. Thanks! As to the suggestion for druid, there are an abundance of druids at our tables, sometimes up two to a table. I really like the sorcerer concept, but most seem to go the "fire blaster" route. I thought I'd try something different. Again, thanks for the advice! |
| boogahwoof07-25-07, 04:03 PM | Are you planning to start this guy in the greyhawk series? If so the alternate rule for sorverer is great, no familer but you dont increase the timing for metamagics. I would suggest going human, for your 2 feats 1st human school focus evo meta school focus evo 2nd 3rd energy sub elec From 3rd on you can energy sub elec to all evo spells at no cost and with no increase in casting time, go with the born of 3 thunders idea and be a thunder mage |
