| CrystalBlue02-05-07, 01:26 PM | So...yeah. Someone has been tempting me to use my special mission for the dragon diciple for another character. Specifically, my two-weapon fighter. If you haven't seen my other thread, he looks like this. Wood Elf Str: 14 Dex: 19 Con: 12 Int: 14 Wis: 8 Cha: 8 Fighter 2/Ranger 2/Swashbuckler 1 Feats: Two Weapon, Weapon Finesse, Dodge, Mobility, Combat Expertice, Improved Weapon Familiarity. And, yes, I know wood elf wasn't the best way to go with that build, but bare with it, please? Next level, I'm taking Improved Two Weapon Fighting for my sixth level. Question is, what should I do? I've got in-character reasons for wanting Dragon D...but would it be good with this character? Would it even be feasible? |
| Reylance02-05-07, 04:45 PM | Is there an item somewhere in those ability scores? For a wood elf, 14/19/12/14/8/8 (with a stat bump to Dex) takes 4+10+6+10+0+0=30 build points. I'm going to guess your character isn't set up for dragon disciple now; for example, you don't have the 8 ranks of Knowledge: Arcana and the ability to cast arcane spells without preparation. Assuming your 14 Int is natural, two levels of sorcerer would allow you to meet the prerequisite, or one level of bard. Plus, you'll need a +2 cloak of charisma, and you'd probably want to spend your 8th level stat bump in Cha. It looks like you're going to take the risky step of being a dragon disciple in Highfolk, as you mention a special mission. You might want to check if you need to meet the prerequisites of dragon disciple before going on the mission. Four levels of dragon disciple will give you +4 to Strength, greatly increasing your combat ability as a two-weapon fighter, though costing you 2 points of BAB. Since you don't appear to be exploiting Power Attack (oversize two-weapon fighting with elven thinblades), that's not a bad way to increase your damage. You'd be able to pick up ITWF at 9th level, but GTWF would be delayed to 15th. |
| UMiskatonic02-07-07, 12:10 PM | I wouldn't do it. Dragon Disciples are best served by loads of STR, hitpoints, and AC. It's an upfront, toe-to-toe type of class. An 8 CHA will really hamper your spellcasting abilities; you won't be able to cast zero-level spells without a cloak +2, so I think it's a no-go. Sorry. |
| LachlarlanIII02-07-07, 12:22 PM | With the current build, It's pretty much unfeasable to go DD. His classes don't allow for much room. If you don't have any ranks in Know(Arcana) it's going to take at least 2 levels in a spontaneous arcane class to get the necessary ranks. Not to mention, you will need at least a +2 Cha cloak to even get the ability to cast arcane spells. If 4k gp and 2 levels don't bother you, go for it. Otherwise, I'd stick with the build you've already got for him. |
| gomeztoo02-07-07, 03:15 PM | Actually, all you need is a level of bard and (indeed) a Cloak of Cha +2. Bard levels won't add BAB, and bardic song isn't powerful, nor will the 0-level spells help you much. But you do get enough skill points (6+2=8) to get the Knowledge skill (assuming you already speak draconic), and a +2 to Dex and Will saves. So it is possible. As to high strength - yes, that would help. But don't let people drive you crazy. My mutt two-weapon fighting DD started with 14 Str and 16 Dex, and she does pretty ok as a supporting battle-field control fighter. This doesn't mean it would work well with your build. It really depends the PC. My DD is set up to provide support (buys lots of consumables to spend) and take a hit (good Con so lots of hp) so others can focus on getting the critter down. She knows she does not as much damage as dedicated hitters, but she has saved the day more than once by being versatile, aiding others, provide flanking and doing the extra damage that puts the critter down. Still, your Cha is too low to make qualifying easy enough, so I would think carefully whether you want to. |
| CrystalBlue02-09-07, 01:28 PM | Well now...how about this? Now that Beguiler is an open class, as per the new LGCS...how about I take one level of Beguiler? They use Int and spontaneously cast. I know I take a BAB hit, but at least they have d6 hit dice. Would that make this any better or not? |
