Still new here, and for some reason I thought Order of the Bow Initiate and Dervish might work well together.

Human
STR 16 DEX 14 CON 13 INT 13 WIS 10 CHA 8

Ranger1: Point Blank, Precise Shot
Fighter1: Rapid Shot
Fighter2: Weapon Focus: Long Bow*, Dodge
Ranger2: (pick TWF)
Fighter3: -
OBI1: Mobility
OBI2: -
Fighter4: Weapon Focus: Scimitar*
Fighter5: Combat Expertise
Dervish1: -
Dervish2: -
Dervish3: Elusive Target
Dervish4: -
Dervish5: -
Dervish6: ?

* Bonus Fighter Feats

I have no first hand experience with Archers. This build is based off my inference from these boards that Archers are pretty much set once they can get Order of the Bow Initiate 2.

My intent was that this character would end up equally effective at ranged or melee. Load up on bow enchantments and plug away at the bad guys from a distance, or do a little two-weapon fighting scimitar dance and slice to ribbons. Also: skills.

Did I miss something obvious?

I don't think OBI helps you enough. Is there ever going to be a time where you're standing next to someone and it would be better for you to shoot them with your bow then to dance around them like crazy? I like the idea of a Melee character getting Rapid Shot from Ranger 2 so incase they can't reach the opponent they can at least do something from ranged, but I think it doesn't do enough to warrant the 2-level dip.

Maybe a minion moved up to me in melee, but there's a flying caster that really, really needs an arrow in the face.

The goal was to be effective as either an archer or a light melee type, depending on the circumstances.

There is a sorcerer/wizard spell which lets you change a weapon from one form to another, that you might be able to use. The biggest drawback is that dervish requires slashing and an elvencraft bow is bludgeoning.

Where did you get that idea from?
..it seems very bizarre to me.

I think he's referring to the usefulness of the ability to use ranged weapons in melee without provoking AOO's.

More ranger levels let you cast Arrowmind, a 1 min/level spell that lets you shoot in melee and not provoke.
