What ethnic group are Oeridians modeled after?

I'm trying to come up with a name for a character and I like to be as close as possible.

Thanks!

IIRC, the Oeridians are a generic southern European flavor -- the LGG says, "Oeridian skin tones range from tan to olive; brown and auburn hair are common, though some individuals have hair as light as honey or as dark as coal. Likewise, eye coloration is highly variable; brown and gray are seen most often. Oeridians tend to have square or oval faces and strong jaw lines."

Very generally:
Suloise = Northern Europe (Scandanavian)
Oeridian = Southern Europe (Mediterranean)
Flan = Native (North) American
Rhennee = Eastern Europe (Slavic)
Baklunish = Middle-eastern/arabic
Olman = Native Central/South American (Aztec, etc.)
Touv = African

Southern Europe would be Italian, Spanish, and French right?

Pretty much. Think Mediterranean Europe.

Remember that Mediterranean/southern Europe includes the Greeks and similar.

Also, I always figured that the Flan were also influenced by the ancient Celts. (That's certainly how I play it anyway.)

There's somewhat of a confusion, I think, about whether the Flan are celts or native Americans. I've seen modules (I think it was a core, possibly a Bright Sands mod?) where a player hand-out was written in Welsh and we were told it was Flan. Now I don't speak Welsh, despite being from the Principality, but I can recognise it! Personally I'd have chosen Gaelic as a more authentic and esoteric Celtic language, though I suppose that the Irish among us would have a similar break in their suspension of disbelief when they saw that. Perhaps Cornish or Bretton would be better choices?

The Flan of the Headlands in Onnwal appear to have a good mix of ancient Celt and Native American, with the emphasis on the Celt, I think (strong sorcerer/mystic women, warring tribes, swirling facial tattoos etc).

(Edit) Oh, and are we sure the Rhenee are meant to be slavic? I think they're modelled far more on the Romany. Who admittedly now have their largest concentration of population in Eastern Europe but are a very distinct people from the Slavs and subject to significant persecution from them. If I recall correctly!

Rhenee are modeled after gypsies and I haven't heard of any gypsies outside Slavic countries.

And I've always heard Flan are a mix between Celtic and Native (North) American influences.

The picture of the Flan from the LG Gazetteer shows a man covered in woad.

I believe that the Romani prefer the term Romani, and avoid the word Gypsies.

I was refering to unrealistic characterizations of the Romani such that one would find in Bram Stoker's Dracula and other such novels.

I've always heard of Rhenee as steryotypical 'gypsies' and not based on the Romani people who may or may not resemble the steryotype.

My only point was that Slavic and Romani are very distinct things. And, yes, it was a somewhat pointless nit-pick, but from my reading the Rhenee have nothing in common with the Slav people of Eastern Europe.

there are gypsy communities and clans (roma and sinti or traveling people in official documents nowadays) in almost all european countries.
some of them are part of the original people coming from north central india in several immigration waves through asia minor, the balcan or northern africa to different parts of europe during the medieval ages.
named gypsy for their claim to be original christians driven out of egypt by muslimic invasion and occupation during the 7th till 9th century.

some other groups like the irish-british tinkers or the central european jennish share some of the gypsie's cultural and social traits but are from totally different ethnological decent.

Forgive my ignorance, what is woad?I'm trying to recall the picture, but I believe woad is the blue dye that the Celts (ancient or otherwise) used to mark themselves before battle.

If you've seen Braveheart, it's the blue facepaint the Scots are wearing in the big battle (can't remember which one).
