A Bite is a piercing AND slashing AND bludgeoning weapon, so you can combine the 2 ambush feats in one attack, even if it means giving up 9d6 sneak attack damage to do 1d4 con damage and possibly confuse the target.... |

Question: How does one disembowel something by striking it in the head? I know it works by the RAW, just thought I'd ask how you think it would work. |

He'd have to be a 19th level rogue... Ambush feats require you to still do at least one extra die of sneak attack for them to work, meaning he needs to have +10d6 sneak attack. Not something I'd see very many authors using, since it would therefore be the only creature in an APL 16 EL+3 encounter (or is it EL+4? I never remember how to do it when the critters have a LA...) |
| Alpha_Nerd02-13-07, 09:14 PM | Nah, they can throw in 9 5th level wizards and not have it affect the EL at all. |
| Jay_Ibero_91102-13-07, 09:50 PM | It would be the single greatest encounter in an APL 16 mod EVER...even if it's the only thing the poor lizardfolk gets to do before it gets shredded... |

Some Cleric domain gives you a bite attack as a matter of interest. There is a divine spell which allows you to use natural weapons at range too. This could be worth investigating. |
| LachlarlanIII02-14-07, 09:52 AM | A Beholder? That wasn't funny... (I laughed a bit.) |
| DuctShuiTengu02-14-07, 09:57 AM | Assassin and Nightsong Enforcer both grant an extra die of sneak-attack at first level, so you could pull it off with a Rogue 15/Assassin 1/Nightsong Enforcer 1 (probably ways to get this to even lower levels using other PrCs, though you're going to screw yourself out of a lot of BAB) |
| Adolfo_Mondschein02-17-07, 02:47 AM | How about, you walk in a large room with 12, tenth level evocation wizards, they are flying around, aware of your presence beforehand. They begin picking off your party members with magic missiles (wizards and sorcerors, then other spellcasters, then ranged combatants, then melee combatants). A total of 60d4 + 144 damage to one person a round. Not impossible I know. Hopefully, somebody in your party has Sheild... at least for themselves... |
| solbergb02-17-07, 11:41 AM | obscuring mist. Stops magic missiles cold...lose LOS, lose targeted attacks. 1001 uses. No caster should be without it. It's on all the spell lists. For those without it on their spell list or who don't cast spells...smokesticks can do the job but it takes a bit more effort. |

It doesn't stop them from randomly raining down fireballs... but it definetly beats being a humanoid pin-cushion in the first round... |
| solbergb02-17-07, 09:44 PM | presumably the party fires back. Most L14 parties could clean up the lot of them in one action, provided the key person survives to take the action. But it helps if that action isn't going to be interupted with readied magic missiles. I actually ran into an encounter much like this in a duchy module at lower APL. My sorc had a scroll of shield, but she decided it made more sense just to attack the bad guys and reduce the incoming fire than to waste a round on that. They were kind of like popcorn - all offense, but one swat and they died. |
