Hey -

What's the most damage you've ever seen done by a fighter type in a LG game?

In one round, that is. And what "type" of PC was it? (i.e. BBN raging shock trooper, or TWF master, or spiked chain tripmonkey, whatever)

I have a little bet going and am looking for the answer. Just fighter types for this please, not magic or summoned creatures, etc..

Thanks!

I did ~157 damage after critting something once. That's about average for my character.

He's a 32 Str Half-Orc Barbarian/Fighter while raging and uses a x4 weapon.

He's also not as optimized as he could be.

The most I'll be able to do at 15th is 264 with a full power attack and confirmed crit. That's not counting being enlarged and whatnot.

Highly unlikely to confirm a crit when your at -15 to hit, but that's what Oil of Bless Weapon is for. :)

Most I've seen from a fighter-type was somewhere around 217 points. Deadly Charge + crit = x5. That was in one shot.

In one round, however... I've seen a TWF rogue do about 201, and I remember a Dervish w/ Warchanter combo do about 250ish.

Sadly, I didn't actually add up how much damage our fighter did in the first round of combat in a recent APL 16 game. I know that the enemies within his (20ft) reach had somewhere between ~100 and ~230 HP each, because it generally took two swings to kill each of them, and he was killing 2-3 per round. I'd estimate his damage / round at about 500, in that first round where he had a nice target-rich environment - each hit was doing over 100 damage, and I'm pretty sure he had five attacks (three from BAB, one from Righteous Wrath, one from exotic weapon master flurry). He was a spiked-chain-wielding fighter/barbarian iirc, with enlarge person, righteous wrath of the faithful and zealot pact all active (*sniff* my cleric was so proud).

My cleric's personal melee damage record for one round is 283 points (and it would be more, but I rolled a nat 1 on one of her attacks... grumble). Obviously, I've seen people do better than that, but I don't think I've seen anyone else get that high without power attacking (and there were no crits involved) ;)

The most spectacular high-damage round I've ever seen was probably from a high-level fighter / exotic weapon master using a blessed bastard sword, who rolled two successive nat 20's while full power attacking the AC-47 BBEG (i.e. he would've needed decent rolls even with zero power attack). The two crits did about 240 damage in total, I think (about 120 each) - that was at APL 12.

I don't think they can beat the records copper wyrmling is referencing, but my local group keeps a set of 'awards' for various categories, named after the Half-Orc Barbarian/Occult Slayer (who is actually very friendly and wears ribbons in her hair) whose destructive tendencies were first considered worthy of recognition! They're listed on the 'Vola Awards' website: http://tassek.anang.com/volas.html.

The highest damage in a single round we've seen in Oxford is 252 points by a L14 (I think) Wildrunner... and I seem to recall it would have been higher had there been anything near enough to bite at! Highest damage in a single hit is 208 points by a griffon-riding power attacking spirited charge, possibly with smite.

Now I come to think of it, I was DMing for both of those events. Humpf!

I did 792 points of damage a long time ago. It was a full PA lance crit with Leap Attack from a fully-buffed, raging half-orc at level 16 or 17.

My personal best is only 205 points from a Spirited Charge.

Only PA, +1 lance and spirited charge (no other relevant feats), without a crit (so only x3). I was at a table with a munchkin true-striking marshal charger, and some of the bonuses spilled over to me.

In a single round, I have done ~230 (with a cleave); not as many bonuses to damage that time.

Awwww. Poor pedr :weep:

Anyway, my records are cheating a bit, they all involve the use of Zealot Pact, my cleric's new favorite buff :) Divide all the numbers by two and they look a lot more reasonable ;)

The highest one-shot damage I've ever seen was actually from a spell, combined with some fairly amazing dicerolls by the player (I was DM'ing) - but we've been asked not to talk about spell damage on this thread.

My own glaive weilding dervish once did just around 150 points of damage to a huge serpent. This was just when he got power attack at level 12. He was power attacking for full on a spring attack as the first to act in the initiative, and crit. Best of all was when the serpent failed it's massive damage save and dropped dead from the shock.

12th level paladin doing a full power attack + spirited charge + smite + rhino's rush spell + crit at APL 10

damage for one hit: 375

If only I could have gotten a Fires of Purity buff, then the damage would have been up near 450 or so. Oh well, maybe next time.

These posts about Spirited Charges shows some fairly impressive numbers, but I can easily pick out the two most devastating fighters I've seen in LG. I'm not certain what the exact damage per round comes to, but that depends partially on a number of things...

1) Wood-elf (very lucky Reincarnation) Bbn/Ftr/Rgr/Wildrunner with Reckless Rage and Primal Scream can get up to +11 STR without spells. He swings for something like 50 HP a shot at 11th level and gets 4 attacks with Haste, then a bite just for kicks. Typically between 150 and 200 HP a round in every combat.

2) An Elusive Target/Close-Quarters Fighting/Improved Trip/Combat Reflexes/Karmic Strike fighter. I don't remember how badly mutted-out this PC was, but part of his damage potential relied upon getting hit. Of course, Elusive Target and Close-Quarters Fighting limited the amount of damage he took, while he was swinging for 40+ a shot with full BAB (I think) at 12th or 13th level. I think he did 80 - 100 HPs to a monster during the MONSTER's turn.

My Spellsword regularly deals around 300 damage per round - 400 if I crit.

Once, I dealt 796 damage (two whirling blade spells against many creatures with some buffs and a full PA).

I've seen a twinked out paladin/sublime chord/initiative of the sevenfold veil (yes a melee) deal 500-700 damage per round regularly against undead and negative energy creatures (he used a sunblade and yes, it was Lord Sterling).

There was a year 4 regional module that had an old 1st edition monster in it called the 'nilbog' (goblin spelled backwards) that would gain temp hps instead of taking damage when hit.

I was doing 24d6+4d8+620 a round to it (scarily I never missed nor critted) and by the end of the fight it had over 4296 in temp hps.

This is nowhere near max damage done per round, or even max damage for my character, but my rogue did about 100/rd to a golem recently. I think that is likely the most damage a rogue has ever done to a construct before . . .

If its total damage in a round from multiple attacks, i was at owlcon and played the apl 16 interactive. We had a 15th level dervish, two handing a maiming great falchion keened. So with his power attack and crits he hit, he was doing upwards of 400 points a round. But, he also had a warchanter cohort letting him use reckless for full power attack and sacrificing all his ac to keep his to hits up. Very nice build, but i cant have a build totally reliant on my cohort having to be there.

My mounted character has topped 100 damage on non-buffed single attacks many times, and she doesn't have power attack, and is only 6th level. I think I hit 100 the first time at 3rd or 4th.

Of course 10 CON, 10 DEX, 8 INT, 8 Wisdom melee characters have a lot of points left over to put into charisma which is good when you are adding that to damage tripled. (Spirited charge marshall). Too bad the poor girl has died 3 times so far. I have an 8 con melee character at 7th level who has never died. This one with 10 con dies everytime she gets in a really bad situation.

I think at least 1 of the rounds he got into the 600-700 range. He has 5 regular attacks (3 BAB + Haste + Flurry (SC)), Cleave and Combat Reflexes (with 20' reach) and the EWM feat that lets him make AOOs through cover. With the Zealot Pact he was hitting for over 100 pts a damge a hit and I think there was at least 1 round (with cleave and combat reflexes) he hit 6 or 7 times.

I have seen him do 400 with no zealot pact.

Funny, when I started reading this thread, it reminded me of the nilbog having ran into one in 1st edition.

Guessing from the damage, it looks like a TWF Rogue. Whats the exact build?

I never said mine weren't crits!! I need a crit to top 100 damage.

As to how? Str 26, Cha 18 (after level bump, items, rage and racial adjustments), and a +1 weapon with the marshall charge aura. Normal spirited charge damage is 3d8+51 and a crit is 5d8+85. So I hit 100 damage on a crit, about 65 otherwise.

No power attack. Just stacking a couple ability score bonuses on the damage and tripling it.

Zealot Pact doesn't make much difference in that case, actually, due to the way D&D doubling works (it'll take the spirited charge multiplier from x3 to x4, I guess) - but against the vast majority of enemies, this'll probably be hideous overkill anyway ;)

C. Cleave for 63
2. Hit for 61
3. Crit for 169
H. Hasted for 57

Not a bad round. :D

For me:

32 Str Half-Orc Fighter 10/Barbarian 1 after Raging.

Mercurial Greatsword (I have access from year 5) - 2d6 20/x4

Unbuffed and without Power Attack I do 2d6+21 damage.

With Power Attack (and I usually go for full BAB on the first round of combat) I do 22 more. So that's 2d6+43.

On a confirmed critical I do 8d6+172. That's 200 points on average.

That's also before buffs such as Enlarge Person (weapon goes to 3d6) and Zealot Pact (double damage against opposite alignment of caster)

I believe my record was 432 points: three attacks + haste attack, +15 BAB, 28 Str, full two-handed power attack, arcane strike, wraithstrike, two of four attacks critted. There were some module-specific bonuses, and probably a few other global effects. That round utterly eviscerated that big bad monster. I was 17th level playing down to APL 12 (required to play the same character that had played a previous module, only table of the module in that slot).

Now that I have a BAB of 16, I'll be looking to see if I can break that record in the high level campaign.

I condensed his build so as to not detract from the intent of the post. He was actually Bard 2/Wizard 5/Paladin 2/Marshall 1/Sublime Chord 1/I7V 6 with Arcane Disciple (war domain) and used contingencies and other tricks to get immediate action divine power and then arcane striked for a heck of a lot. This was also during the period of time in which Wraithstrike was open. He hit I7V 7 and retired.

Allows those who don't have the feat to be able to do ride-by attacks. IF you have spirited charge, then it allows those charging lance crits to be x4 damage instead of the usual x3 for the weapon.

I have a 9th level female holy warrior of Joramy (Brb 1/Clr [Destruction domain] 8). She earned access to goliath greathammer about two years ago. 1,000gp from adding flaming burst to it. So she hasn't gotten to use it yet, but the potential is happy.

She's not an uber Str bundle for a character, 18 Str and 18 Cha each with magic enhancement. But when she needs to she can swing for the fences, with Rage (+3), Smite (+8), Divine Might (+4), Doll of Valiant Fury (+3), Power Attack with armbands of might (+18) and a belt of one mighty blow (+3d6).

Regardless, on a confirmed crit, she'll get 4d12+1d6+3d10+3d6+4(weapon bonus)+32(Str)+16(Divine Might)+32(smite)+64(Power Attack). Assuming max dice (I know, I know...), 250 hp damage on a crit, average dice about 204 hp damage on a crit. Except for the doll of valiant fury (an item from a year 5 Highfolk adventure) adding +4 to Str, which takes a standard action to activate but lasts 10 rounds, everything else I can bring as a free action.

To add to the Joramy theme of fire and argumentation, I was thinking of putting thundering on the weapon as well at a later date. Oh, the pleasure of tossing 4d12s 3d10s 3d8s 4d6s and all for one weapon on a confirmed crit! Heh. Need some way to get some d4s in there for the whole dice bag to get in on the fun... Hmm...

:) my personal best in a round was with one attack and a maiming weapon after I have energy weapon cast on my dwarven war axe. I sacked my entire BAB to power attack while combat bruting it. So it looked something like this:

+18 str damage (exotic weapon master)
+2 weapon special
+2 Slashing mastery
+2 magic
+24 X5 crit(from 1d6 maiming roll)= +120 from base

+11 power attack X8 = +88 from power attack

3+10+7+5+8= 33 +33 weapon damage

9+4+7+8+4= 32 +32 from energy
for a grand total of 273

I missed with the rest of my attacks in the round :)

A fellow player asked me later how I did it and I told him I ate the mounted mutt's mount for the effects of a hero's feast for the day.

In a recent mod, with only Heroes’ Feast as a buff, Dmitri poked an advanced barghest for a critical hit: 5d8+285. Rolling well, I got 317 damage.

Dmitri didn't start out his career as a mounted combat guy, but I used the 595 rebuild to turn him into one. He played a game with a lower-level version of Britt's character, giving me some ideas of what was possible.

Since Dmitri is almost retired, I've started a new mounted lancer, Ke-RONK!, a half-orc druid 1/fighter 1. He has a higher strength than Dmitri (18 vs. 14), and with the druid levels, he'll get Lion's Pounce so he can do that kind of damage more than once per round.

The most recent LGCS changed my plan for him a bit. He did was gonna do this:

1 Druid 1 Mounted Combat
2 Fighter 2 Ride-by Attack <-- He's here right now
3 Druid 2 Spirited Charge
4 Druid 3
5 Druid 4
6 Druid 5 Power Attack
7 Druid 6
8 Druid 7
9 Fighter 2 Improved Bull Rush, Shock Trooper
...Druid from then on, taking Lion's Pounce at level 12 and something else fun at level 15.

But because he'd now get a 20% gold penalty in addition to the 20% xp penalty, I'm thinking of this:

4 Fighter 2 Power Attack
5 Druid 3
6 Fighter 3 Improved Bull Rush
7 Druid 4
8 Fighter 4 Shock Trooper
9 Druid 5 Lion's Pounce
...alternating Druid and Fighter levels from then on, picking up feats that I haven't decided upon yet.

This gets me to Shock Trooper by level 8 (vs. 9) and to Lion's Pounce by level 9 (vs. 12) and gives me more BAB, but I lose out big time on druid caster levels and animal companion advancement.

Animal companion advancement matters to me because the dire bat makes such a terrific mount. It's amazingly useful to be able to fly in LG mods, and a flying mount removes many of the barriers and impediments that often prevent charging.

So I may dip into Beastmaster, but taking Skill Focus (Handle Animal) throws my feat progression off.

Or I may stick with my original plan and just suck up the 20%/20% hit on xp/gp.

A human could take this build with just fighter 1 and druid the rest of the way without worrying about the multiclass penalty, and the human bonus feat would help dramatically.

In fact, if he didn't care about lance proficiency, a human could just use his bonus feat and do the mounted combat thing with just Druid levels.

1 Druid 1 Mounted Combat, Ride-by Attack
2 Druid 2
3 Druid 3 Spirited Charge
4 Druid 4
5 Druid 5
6 Druid 6 Power Attack
7 Druid 7
8 Druid 8
9 Druid 9 Improved Bull Rush
10 Druid 10
11 Druid 11
12 Druid 12 Shock Trooper
13 Druid 13
14 Druid 14
15 Druid 15 Lion's Pounce

Now you're a druid with full caster levels who wields a mean weapon when mounted. If you can find a Skillful weapon special ability (Complete Arcane) and upgrade a +1 lance, you don't need those fighter levels at all. Or just upgrade it to +4 and offset the non-proficiency penalty.

Or you could use those nifty druid spells that buff up your quarterstaff (Shillelagh, Brambles, Spikes, Entangling Staff, Fires of Purity, Ironwood, Spellstaff, Brilliant Blade, Brilliant Aura) and forget all about the lance.
