What class/type are you looking for?

Really, everyone feels weak as a first or second level character. It takes time to be powerful. And if you're new to the game then you're likely missing opportunities in combat so it's unlikely you could take full advantage of a munchkin build.

only new to RPGA ?
or new to D&D altogether ?

the most powerful builds don't mean a thing if you don't know how to make use of it...

Clerics are inherently powerful, if you want to go straight cleric. Radiant Servants of Pelor are very powerful, and a very straightforward build as well. You can also be a Radiant Servant of other deities (LGCS tells you which ones). Divine Oracles are also powerful; clerics with Evasion and Uncanny Dodge just do stupid things.

If you want a complicated, multi-prestige class dipping build, I could probably come up with one, but for simple powerful builds Radiant Cheeselords and Divine Oracles are good.

id recomend, as a new player, no trying for one of the rediculously complicated power builds. just go something simple, like a radiant cheeseweasel, or even just be really simple and go a feat loaded fighter style toon, or even something like a straight sorc/wizard for a while. bassically, get a feel for how rpga before you try for 'bestcharactereveromg'. I dont know about you, but all of my rpga playing friends found after about 4 lvls with there first character that it didnt develope at all like they expected, and the rebuild a new toon that suited greyhawk more.

basically what im saying, in a rambling sort of way is: your first character will NOT be an optimal character, because you just dont know enough about the game yet. build one, play it a bit to get an idea of how things work, then try for a power build if you still want to. and dont forget, its an rpg. dont substitute rollplaying for roleplaying.

well i already have a lvl 4 and i do know the game ive wached people play all my life and i know what im doing im the leader of our group ( some people have upwards of 30 years of expirence) and im just to power hungry and i need to satifie the lust... so power build would be nice ( like stats feats that sort of thing)

Well first you need to choose a build type then start with an appropriate race

generally:

strength/dex fighters: wood elf
dex fighters that need int (rogues, swashbucklers): gray elf
con based builds: dwarf or gnome

after that there are dozens of ways to go so you need to be more specific about what you want ... there are build optimising forums elsewhere on wizards that will give you ideas.

with no intention of coming across rude: if you;re the leader of the group, over people with upwards of 30 years of experience, and you know what you are doing, and you're a level four and know how things work: why are you asking for other people to come up with a power build so you can kill everything? At the most basic, you could give some indication of what you are after: what play style you want, what basic class / prc, what feats you were thinking of going, spells you planned to take etc. I cant speak for everyone else, but there's a few really knowledgeable (ironic that i spelt that incorrectly) people on these boards who would be more than happy to annalyse and improve any build you can come up with, but with the experince you have, they will probably expect you to at the very least provide the foundations yourself.

k thank u all though u did sound quite rude its all right but u have to relize im only 12 and im not to rules savey im accualy geting a players hand book next week and thats kinda why i dont try to come up with a power build my self but im thinking either a claric or a mage who uses spell dc but probobly claric so someone will heal so ill try to come up with a good claric . all talk to my gm try to barrow books and stuff and come up with a good idea ty.
Ow ya 1 more thing the reson why i want a power build is i always feel weak and left out half way through cobat i stop and just contunue doing wat i was like serching:(

are you particularly a lower level than the rest of the people in your party?
what class is your lvl 4, and what feats / stats does it have. with that as a starting point, im sure the people here can give advice of to how to optomise your next 11 levels. keep in mind that the difference in power betwwen a fully optimal build, and a pretty good build, may not be very much, but the difference in difficulty of playing might be monumental. you should try and find a balance:
*a character you dont find to anoying or confusing
*a character you can get into enough to roleplay, not just roll-play
*most importantly: a class you WANT TO PLAY. nothing is more annoying than playing in a party where one of your party members sulks dejectedly for the whole game because they dont like the class they have.

sorry for comming across as rude... im just not very nice :D.

Not sure what you mean by this...Living Greyhawk characters always have to start at 1st level.

If you already have a character that's 3rd level, and you want to make a new one, you still need to create that new one at 1st level.

and remeber it is the rpga.

Not to be rude, but you've said this 3 times now...and this is the Living Greyhawk character board, so that's a given, and you really don't need to keep pointing that out.

see. its hard not to be rude.

something that jumps out at me (aside from the fact that you said your cleric was 4, then 3? which is it) is that i really wouldnt take tower shield prof with a priest. if you have 1 on, and a weapon, you have no hands free, and if you really want a tower shield, take 2 levels of fighter perhaps, or just take a smaller shield. imo i really dont think it's worth it for a cleric to take a tower shield.

and yeah, you shud stop saying 'its rpga' and ;it has to be rpga legal', because everything on these boards is.

I could be wrong. I do not have my books with me, but I think divine power is from Complete Divine and therefore not allowed until level 3.

I had a build on my home PC that I call the smite god. Fighter 1, cleric 1, then paladin. With a spiked chain and divine power, smiting extra smithing, improved smiting Power attack. If you are intersted PM me and I will send you a more detailed build privately in the next few days.

I think you're mixing up divine power (4th level PHB cleric spell that makes fighters envious) and divine might (complete warrior, turning based cha-to-damage feat).

I suspect the original poster may be referring to Divine Spell Power, a Complete Divine feat.

And, while that feat is "Core" access in LG, as it's not out of the PHB, you do need to be at least 3rd level before you take it.

What is confusing in the original poster's post is whether we're talking about an existing 3rd-level cleric PC that he has, or if he's trying to build a new PC at 3rd level (which is against LG rules, but it's also not clear if he knows that).

i get the feeling that the kid is as unsure about what he means as the rest of us :D

basically dude, give us some idea of what YOU think YOUR character should be doing, what you want from it (do you wanna blow things up, jump on people and beat them with your fist, heal everything in sight, hug trees etc.) or we wont be able to really give you much to go on.

To me this kid cries out..."hulk smash" build..

here's one of mommy's that seems he could master...

Example: The Half-Orc Kill Things Dead:
Barbarian 2/Fighter 4/Occult Slayer 5/Pious Templar 5
Str 20, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 8, Cha 6
1 Barbarian 1: Power Attack
2 Fighter 1: WF: Greatsword
3 Fighter 2: Extra Rage, Improved Initiative
4 Barbarian 2: Str 21
5 Fighter 3
6 Fighter 4: Improved Bullrush, Shock Trooper
7 Occult Slayer 1
8 Occult Slayer 2: Str 22
(etc...)

the worst characters performances i have seen/suffered  were players who had "adopted" (power) builds from other players and didn't know what to actually do with them and how the potential power were to be implemented.

most likely not a problem for THIS build :D, as it has the simple rule, "hit it till it doesn't move any longer and smash it to be sure it will never move again", but even this build needs a player who knows what target to attack first and how to scale power attack vs. hit probability.

another simple build, go for a straight cleric of the regional predominant NOT-EVIL faith, choose "scribe scroll" (or get it via a domain), "power attack" when heading for some melee capability, "extra turning" when low on charisma to get the turn attempt consuming feats running, pick up any of: "augment healing", "divine spellpower" and "domain spontaneity" somewhere in his career.
hard to screw such a character.

A lot of the worst character builds I have actually seen in play belonged to younger kids whose parents played with them. They were invariably built just to stay alive.

Here is one I have seen more than once.

Dwarf Barbarian/fighter
20 CON
Full plate and tower shield.
Toughness and power attack.

As often as not the parent in the pair will be playing a cleric who given the choice between healing another party member that is down to 4 hit points or running across the map to heal his kid who is down to 45, will run across the map every time. Last con I went to I saw this exact thing happen while other characters were bleeding out.

The cleric this kid has seems to be in some way the same deal. That is why he has the tower shield.

Also, spellcasters are terrible choices for players who aren't really familiar with the rules. A lot of them get clerics foisted on them by other people (I have been guilty of that myself), but they never really know what to do with them. A lot of young girls (11-16) seem to pick druids, but those never seem as bad as the clerics that people don't know how to play. Probably because at least the druid has an animal companion.

Also, my personal suggestion to the kid is that he should really look over his posts before pressing submit. Your basic spelling skills should be mastered by the time you hit that age.

Ow, not yet another half-orc barbarian...
Btw, I do have a big Con dwarf fighter with towershield and ful plate... worked quite well up till now (only 2nd lvl though). Considering he fought a wight at lvl 1...
But not much of a power build:
"Fat dwarf" is mostly a damage-soaking cork.
I would discourage most spellcasters. They can be powerful but if you have no clue what spells to cast, or how they work, you can mess up real bad.
Fighters with the proper tricks (trip, disarm), and Power Attack seldom fail though. Scared Souls might work well too. A bit harder to balance with stats, but if you go for supporting spells (i.e. cure/buff), you don't need high DCs and do not have to put a lot in Cha.

:) just remember that we all were in this kids place at some time in our life. some people i play with are worse thin this kid. they are older then he is and i do not know why, maybe it has to do something with who they learned to roleplay with but almost every time they play the end up messing things up and getting the entire party killed. i do not mean by mistakes that we all make once in awhile, but it is like they play there character like an 8 year old and make fullish mistakes. like one time they were told by the people that hired them in the senario to not cause any trouble as in you can not attack any body unless self defence, and were told that they were going to be wached by the town gaurd. they end up atacking the person they were going go talk to because he was runing away from some elementals. and the bad thing is that sence they keep on makeing fullish choses, and they keep on doing the same things each time they play. we tried to help them out, but each time i did, the table almost got TPK.

You would normally go two cleric one fighter if you wanted tower shields .. for the loss of one cleric level you pick up two feats (you do not need to waste one on TS and the fighter level gives you a second one) and all martial weapons.

Well, In the rules it never specifies facing so i'll have full cover and cannot be hit (unless they sunder the shield first).

I'm fairly experienced, and am running with a fairly well rounded group. I just need a build from 3rd level. The feat is devine spell power, by the way.

Well you see in the rules it never specifies faceing so ill have full cover and cannot be hit (unless they sunder)

In the description of the shield it doesnt specify facing ...

I think you will find it DOES elsewhere, and a five foot step is enough to hit you :)

If your DM lets you pull a towershield while in melee with several attackers and simply say "haha no-one can hit me if i give up my attacks" he needs to read up on the rules a bit better :)

We looked into this one in detail with blade at one stage m.

There is over half a page of FAQ on it. You basically use a standard action to choose a facing for total cover. You then get total cover on that facing, normal tower shield AC on the corners of that facing and lose benefit of the shield altogether on the other 3 facings.

Which is all well and good in a home game .. but page 62 of the RPGA LGCS source book specifies the Main Version 3.5 D&D FAQ as an "official source" and that FAQ does talk about facing for tower shields.

Good try .. but unfortunately someone picked up they were overpowered and fixed it.

As a cleric at third level ?

As people keep saying it depends what you want to do.

Generally the best choices for clerics tend to be from complete Divine.

If you intend to go pious templar you need true believer for example.

If you turn undead a lot "Disciple of the Sun" though its pretty hard to beat a radiant servant as a turner.

On the other hand if you have funky domains and rarely turn undead then Domain Spontaniety is hard to beat.

as for feats... not that i think that un-optimised characters arent worth playing (none of mine are power builds), but your level 3 is already slightly gimped, due to taking what is really kind of a silly feat (tower shield proficiencey), when there are much better ways of getting it.

as for feats with the cleric... do you want to heal things or kill things, AND,
