I am rather new at this, so if anyone could help me with this build, that would be great.

Plan-scout4/swashbuckler3/duelist everything else.
str-12
dex-16
con-12
int-14
wis-8
cha-12

i have no clue what wep i should end up using, but i was thinking about 2 swords or something.

If not this, then i was think of an invisible blade.

What set of feats are you looking at getting?

Ok, here's what I see.

A) You're looking to create a lightly armored, fast moving, harrassment combatant, and the scout/swash/duellist is really just a mechanical way to create that concept.

OR
B) you are really into the scout/swashbuckler idea, and you want to make sure that you are creating that character effectively.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm going to assume that it's A, and suggest a few things.

1- Your charisma is too high. You'll have good skill points, so if you want to use speak language and diplomacy, you're better off shoving skill points at those areas, and having a CON of at least 14.

2- Duellist is a great idea for a prestige class, but it's very weak. Yes, it's possible to use weapon finesse and swashbuckler 3 to fight with int and dex, but it's not spectacular. At higher levels, you'll have great difficulty doing a lot of damage, you won't be an effective power attacker, and you'll have way fewer feats than a fighter of your level.

3- Duellist is also very hard on your cash. If you use two weapons, you have double the costs of other fighters. If you don't use armor, than things like bracers of armor and rings of protection are far more expensive for the same amount of AC.
mithril chain shirt +1 = 2100
bracers of armor +5 = 25,000

3- Try Dervish. It has a lot of the fast-moving, nimble qualities that seem to fit with your build.

4- I'd suggest something like scout 1/ranger2/scout 2,3,4/dervish 10. Not sure if that's legal, but you can probably work out the pre-reqs from there.

5- Do you want to be a trapfinder? A tracker? A scout? These are important party roles, and people might expect a scout to do these jobs. It's okay to skip one of them, but other players are going to want to know what you are good at. From your post, I can't tell.

I looked at it in class today and here is what I was thinking:

I was thinking of going into swashbuckler then duelist because they both have a special that involvs high int. (swachbuckler's insightful strike, and the duelist's canny defence).

Right now I have
str-12
dex-16
con-14
int-15 (at lvl 4 will be 16)
wis-8
cha-8

For feets I was planing on dodge and mobility, then weapon focuse rapier.

For equiptment just have 1 rapier and chainshirt.

what I would like to know:
1. if this will work well later in the game.
2. if scout is a good idea, or is there a class that would be of more help, or a
class that benifits from high int.
3. what geer should i use, would 1 rapier be enough to make up my low AC.
4. what everelse might help.

Edit: i was flipping through a book and came acrost 'spellthief', are they LG legal, and if so are they any good?

Sorry...but the Duelist PrC is probably one of THE most worthless PrC's out there...
[Edit]Most of the rest of this post was wrong or worse...I'm too tired...

And Spellthief is not legal...

[Edit] Here's a build that does something like what you are looking for I think...comes together a bit late and has a potential XP penalty for one level, however it works (Except against anything immune to precision damage...)

Race:Grey Elf
Alignment:

STR-12 (4)-2
DEX-15 (8)+2
CON-14 (6)-2
INT-16 (10)+2
WIS-8 (0)
CHA-8 (0)

Lv1(Scout)Dodge
Lv2(Swashbuckler)Weapon Finesse
Lv3(Swashbuckler)Combat Expertise
Lv4(Swashbuckler)+1 DEX
Lv5(Scout)
Lv6(Scout)Improved Weapon Familiarity
Lv7(Scout)Mobility
Lv8(Fighter)Mounted Combat, +1 DEX
Lv9(CoCL)Spring Attack
Lv10(CoCL)

After level 10, throw in whatever you like. You wind up getting INT and DEX to damage, as well as Skirmish damage. Problem will be getting access to a worthwhile Elven Courtblade or Elven Thinblade. Until you get Spring attack, you will be relying mostly on tumble to get your skirmish damage. Gonna want to definately pick up Gloves of Dex+6 and Headband of Intellect +6 for an extra 6 damage combined...certainly not a "power" build, but at least moderately effective against non-immune creatures as well having pretty good skill options. Of course...the will saves are awful...

I'm doing the Scout7/DervishX thing for this concept. Going to take a long time for the Dervish levels but the +2d6 damage and +2AC from the skirmish ability will be nice when he's dancing.

He is a wood elf from the phostwood...

well if you can fit in some corellan later on and are using appropriate weapons (the Corellan PrC does have some annoying pre-requisites like mounted combat) the dex added to damage gives you a character with STR+DEX+INT on all damage rolls.
